Run, Don't Walk from this Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/15/11
This was the second most disgusting hotel I've ever stayed in. The linens appeared to have never been washed. There were crusty body fluids (not just stains) on all the sheets, bedding, pillowcases, pillows, and towels. Dried blood on the coverlet. Every towel (the largest of which being a handtowel) had brown stains on it, and the pillows were filthy. The sheets were too small for the bed, and the sheets and curtains had holes in them that seemed to be from mice or moths. There was actually what appeared to be a bloody handprint on the wall, and I wondered if someone had been murdered there. I sleep on my side, and my arm broke out in either hives or acne from the bed. The bathroom doorknob was broken and I was locked in there for a good ten minutes. The lid of the toilet tank was obviously not original and too big, so that you had to reach under it to flush. The refrigerator did work, but the microwave was older than me and smelled bad. No wi-fi, needless to say. I heard from a local person that the area is known for drugs and he advised me to find a new hotel pronto. Those things being said, the staff was pretty nice, the room was cheap ($33 for a single), and the location was really close to downtown. It also smelled only faintly of smoke, which I took as a plus. So a couple of nice things, but mostly utter, indescribable filth.

BEWARE!!!!
By Carolyn, 8/5/10
OMG!!! WTF!!! This was the NASTIEST place EVER!! From the outside it looked to be like an accepteble place to stay for a night. We figured for the price we were paying it had to be ok($56). But boy was I WRONG! We requested a non-smoking room, when we entered it reaked of ciggerette smells. The washcloth had black hairs in it(that is why we always take our own). We were there for 2 hrs with AC wide open and the room never cooled. We called to the front desk and they told us that they didn't have another non-smoking on the 1st floor, that they had one available on the 3rd floor(the highest level at this hotel). So, you mean to tell me that of the 4 vehicles sitting in the parking lot(one being our own) that there were no more available rooms on the 1st floor? Due to no vacancy? Hell no! More than likely due to lack of properly operating rooms!!! So anyway, we moved to the other room and guess what, THAT AC WAS NO GOOD EITHER!! My son was crying because he was so hot he couldn't go to sleep(6 yrs old). Our "bed" consisted of 2 mattresses and nailed boards put together to make a frame that didn't even have legs. That room smelled! The largest towel in the bathroom was the hand towels. And with our coffee maker we found cream and sugar but NO COFFEE!!! WTF!!! Needless to say, I called back to the desk and they were "willing to place you in another room". Ok so I have to pack up for the 3RD time to find another poorly operating room??!! Yeah right! Just give me my money back!! So, she did refund us 50% and we grin and beared the rest of the 2 HRS we had left to sleep before work the next morning!! Continental breakfast?? They failed to put anything out that morning. We were told that they didn't figure anyone wanted anything because there were only a few people in the whole facility. WTF!! So, BEWARE!!! Steer clear of this place. If I had a torch or some kind of flame, I would have BURNED IT DOWN TO THE GROUND!!!

Nightmare in Georgia
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/26/08
By far, this hotel was in the worst condition of any hotel I have ever stayed in. I've have had cleaner experiences camping out. Even though we had a non-smoking room, the smell of cigarette smoke permeated throughout. when we left, all of our cloths smelled and needed to washed. Even cloths that were never taken out of the suitcases. We refused to use the bath towels provided for sanitary reasons. The staff was nice and friendly, but I felt sorry for them being trapped in these horrible conditions. Repairs to the rooms seemed to have ceased some time during the Carter administration (that would be the 1970's for you Generation Xers). Everything in our room absorbed that dirty, smoky and moldy smell. Overall this was a very bad experience. I have mental scars.

Get what you pay for
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/10/07
This was the only place close to downtown that wasn't charging me an arm and a leg. I figured I could walk the extra few blocks and pay 50 instead of 100 bucks. I wouldn't put my mother up there for vacation, but the place is serviceable for budget-minded travelers.

We will not return
By PatriciaK, 6/13/06
I would like to say that the picture of the rooms is misleading according to the room we received. When we made our reservations, the motel was aware that we needed a handicap room. The room we received, there is no way a person in a wheel chair could have gotten around in that room. The first evening we checked in,went to the bathroom and went to close the door only to find out it was hanging on one hinge on the bottom. It was an accident waiting to happen. If the room was cleaned the last time someone was in there, they would have seen the condition of the door. I went to take a shower only to find there was no wash clothes for us to use. The following mourning as I was fixing coffee, I had the opportunity to watch a bug racing around the bathroom. I hope all the rest of the rooms were not like ours, but I do know the one we were in left a lot to be desired. Not to mention, that the sheets didn't even cover the mattress we had to sleep. It is true that we reported this to the front desk the first night and we got the old" there is no more rooms left". All I can say is if you check in here, I hope you have a better time than we did.

Cleanest little hotel for the best rate.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/17/05
Travelodge offered the cleanest and most friendly service of any hotel in Athens. Perfect for the couple, family, or business trip with convenient kitchenettes and available jacuzzi rooms. For a good place to stay, I would recommend this to all my friends.
