What a great place! Loved it!
By Amanda, 01/11/10
My husband & I stayed here for 3 nights and loved this resort. It was beautiful, the room was far bigger than we realized it was going to be. We loved getting a great massage and using the steam rooms an then the hot tub felt great after all the walking seeing House on the Rock. The area was lovely and the people at this resort were very friendly and helpful. The food in the Grandview was very good, we did only have breakfast there, but it was very yummy.

Very Pleased
By Carol Ann, 05/16/09
My husband and I stayed in this resort for our wedding weekend and was very happy with it all. The rooms are spacious, being just the right size to not feel cramped like at most hotels. They were very clean also. I would recommend getting a king room instead of a double queen, for the king room has a kitchen sink and more cabinets (if those things even matter to you). The price was reasonable especially due to the fact you get two ultimate tour tickets to the attraction. The breakfast there may not be free, but was the best breakfast we've ever had! Worth the money! The pool area is nice and clean, as is the fitness room. The staff was friendly. The golf course is absolutely beautiful! We didnt golf, but did sit on our little personal balcony (which every room comes with) and watched others golfing while taking in the scenery. The views out the room windows is amazing! Breathtaking! We will stay in this resort for sure next time we visit the area!

What happened?
By Sheila, 11/13/08
While it had been a while since I have visited the resort, I was there when it first opened and it would have rivaled any Ritz! It was amazing. The beauty was not just in the landscape but you could tell the people who worked there took pride in the resort and offered second to none service. The little details were so special! The ownership has changed. If you have been to the the House on the Rock, it should give you a hint as to what to expect for the resort. Very 2nd rate now and so sad. It was amazing and now I wouldn't ever go back. The Pro they had there several years ago was outgoing and very good! The course is still nice but the staff is not as knowledgable as before. The front dest staff is rude, unfriendly and not remotely helpful. The restaurant use to be noted throughout the area for the innovative menu that changed nightly and wine list that changed seasonly. I would have rather drove into town for Subway after our meal there. If you liked it years ago, hold onto that feeling and the good memories. Don't risk another heartbreaking trip back. You'llb e so disapointed.

We loved this place
By Caroline, 04/07/08
My boyfriend and I came out to Spring Green to go to Taliesin and The House on the Rock, and stayed at the House on the Rock Resort. We thought it was beautiful and a great value. For $150, you get a two room suite with a balcony and kitchenette. They also throw in tickets to the house on the rock attraction. The pool facilities and work out room are nice, too. We thought that the front desk girl was very nice and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay here and can't wait to come back!

Can't wait to go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/12/07
My husband and I had reservation at the House On The Rock Inn and ended up at the Resort by mistake and decided to stay. We both loved the view, rooms and service. If you weren’t happy with something they were ready to change your accommodations in a minute. We are not golfers but we love the peace and quiet. Breakfast was great! The dinner was not the best but we are use to Chicago restaurants. Too much pepper on our food. If I’m going to have a steak, I want to taste the meat not pepper. But overall, we loved it and can’t wait to go back.

Worst "Resort" We've Ever Stayed In
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/25/07
For the price and the way it is advertised on the website as a nice resort, it should have bee MUCH nicer. I wish I would have read these reviews before we stayed there. DISLIKED: 1. Front Desk Service- Not helpful or friendly. No knowledge of rooms or processes. Gave us our room number, but the key card was for a different room. Several trips back and forth until she finally figured out what she was doing and corrected it. 2. Our room- It smelled awful. This is supposed to be a no smoking resort, but the rooms had previously been a smoking room. The room reeked of stale smoke and the worst air freshner. There were cigarette burns on the stops of the two dressers. The TV remote control was broken. Paint peeling on walls and wall paper ripped off wall. 3. Facilities- Hot tub was broken, toilets in woman's locker room did not flush, steam room not open. 4. Turn Pub and Grille- Food was very bad. Sandwhich had very stale and hard bread. We ordered dinner for 2 adults and 2 children and after 5 hours in the car none of us ate more than 2 bites. 5. Overall stay- No maid service came on our 2nd day. We had to call for maid service and they did not come until 4 pm! We had reservations for 2 days. When we came back from site seeing we could not get into the hotel. We drove all the way to the main entrance to find out they had not keyed our cards for two days and they did not work. 6. No WI-FI. I had called ahead before making reservations to make sure that the rooms had WI-FI. Was told they did. When we checked in we asked again, they said yes. When I tried to log on I did not get a signal. When I called the front desk to tell them, they said they did not have WI-FI. Liked: It is pretty land. The rooms were layed out nice.

Never Again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/11/07
My finance and myself stayed here for 2 nights. I have been here many times before, but not in the past 2 years. We could have not been more disappointed. The room was dirty, wall paper pealing off the wall, lights burnt out in the bathroom. They've removed the king sized beds and replaced it with a queen and another queen in the living area...replacing the bed. The beds are more then firm...hard is a good word here, and the pillows are very thin...very. Amenities are suffering as well...no longer offer room service ("you can go to the restaurant and bring it back to your room"), no kitchenette items at all...paper toweling, dinnerware, glasses, etc...all was something i had gotten used to as part of the resorts offering. We were there for the first night of the APT, and i inquired about the shuttle service they supply...i was told it didn't start until the APT did..which i replied that it starts Saturday evening..."oh, we didn't know". The spa was not available...told it starts this summer... It's plain to see that the resort is putting their $$ all into the golf course. If you want to be a "resort" they need to act like one...for the $$ one has to spend to stay there, it simply isn't worth it. I could have easily had the same experience for half the price at many other hotels in the area. Never Again....

Pay Up and Stay Here
By Marvin, 05/14/07
In Sept. of 2006, we went up to American Players Theater to catch Romeo & Juliet with 3 other couples. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and were given a large clean room with a nice view of the golf course. It was a warm day and we had time to use the big outdoor pool before meeting our party at the APT. We had the whole pool to ourselves. Actually, we just about had the whole resort to ourselves. After the play, we went back to the sports bar and had a couple of drinks and socialized. We're going to go back this year. I really hate to pay this much for a night but the HOR Inn has such bad reviews and although the motels on the 23 are serviceable, we will stay here for a luxury experience.

beautiful
By jennifer, 05/03/07
the resort was beautiful inside. my fiance and i stayed there for the weekend. The beds were so comfortable we actually took the sheets off to find the manufacturer tag so we could get one for at home!! everything was very nice except that they may want to try to plan giving out rooms a bit better. this was our first weekend away from our kids in 5 years and we got a room that had a door to join two rooms in the room that joined ours was about 4 kids that made noise all night slammed the door that joined the rooms i dont know how many times had the tv cranked up really loud which made the kids yell even louder!! We would stay again a will soon but we will be sure to ask that no one with kids is in the next room.

Perfect!!!
By Rev., 11/24/06
The House on the Rock Resort is the perfect getaway. The resort is totally secluded away from traffic, noise, and distractions. Most suites have a great view of the golf course. The service is outstanding. You owe it to yourself to treat yourself to at least one weekend of elegance.
