We enjoyed our stay.
By Gerald Jeanne, 6/26/10
We found the Harbor House Inn very comfortable. The room was clean and neat. The beds were very comfortable. The B & B was in a good location close by the Washington Island ferry. The continental breakfast was good-fruit and homemade scones, muffins, etc. We enjoyed some meals at the Shoreline restaurant within walking distance. We would stay here again.

Don't waste your money!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/27/10
I can't stress enough how disappointed I was in the Harbor House Inn and its staff. It clearly did not live up to its potential. And it's too bad too, because I had planned this trip with my dog and my husband to a pet-friendly scenic Bed & Breakfast that was close to the ferry boats. Instead we found ourselves in a shoddy-looking place (dirty & run down), with a very cheap and basic breakfast that was not the home cooked breakfast we have come to expect with B&Bs (store-bought danishes, apples, coffee... very basic), and the staff acted like Nazis with their non-stop list of strict rules and regulations... "you can do this, you can't to that"... with threats, warnings and scoldings-a-plenty! Talk about a bunch of control freaks! It felt as though we stayed with my mother-in-law! Based on the other reviews, we're not the only ones they've mistreated it seems. I think that they forgot how to treat their customers. We've had better service from cranky frenchmen on their cigarette break over in Europe! In short, this place totally sucked.

Very bad experience
By OneKewlDude, 5/23/10
I go to Peninsula State Park every year, and I change hotels every so often to see what's out there. The Harbor House Inn was by far the worse hotel I stayed in, the staff was rude, the amenities were off-putting, the location was not very desirable. I was not impressed.

Not pet friendly and overpriced
By SP, 5/23/10
The purpose of the trip was to get away together as a couple as my husband is getting deployed soon. The reason we chose Door County was to go hiking in Peninsula with our dog. This hotel claims it is pet friendly, it is anything but. Before leaving for our hike, I made sure that the room was neat and clean, and that everything was put away. Yet, when we got back from a long day hiking, welcoming us was a petty, nagging note from the manager tapped to our door. The manager treated us like we were getting grounded in the 3rd grade, stating that, apparently, the housekeeper had come snooping in when we were gone, and had noticed, with the help of a magnifying glass, that there was SOME dog hair on the white bed sheets... Shocker! Reality check: When you have pets, SOME dog hair will get on your precious white bed sheets, that’s just the way it is. Yet, in that note, the manager warned us to keep our dog off the bed and couch and that this was listed on the pet policy. Nice way to treat your customers! Our pet is well-behaved, friendly and stayed on his dog bed the entire time. If the Harbor House Inn can't deal with a little bit of dog hair, then they should not list themselves as pet friendly… or friendly at all, based on the way they treat their customers. The note was so degrading that my husband and I left early. We did not come this far to get nagged on our vacation. We will not return.

That hotel ruined our vacation: STAY AWAY!
By JupiterOne, 5/23/10
First of all, that place was kind of in the pricey side, as they kept racking up random charges on us. Although it was supposed to be $160 for two nights, it ended up being $240 for two nights which is not exactly cheap... but had the experience been what they had advertised, we would have been fine with it... it wasn't, that placed ruined a much-needed vacation for my fiancee and I, and we ended up leaving after the first night there. Second, the place looked rough, I mean, really, really run down. It felt as though we were in a gettho or some sort of backwoods shed, but without the charm. The view from the our window was of tons of debris and random trash rusting away with an abandoned-looking creepy old pick up truck right in the middle. The stairs that led to our room (2nd floor) were ready to crumble at any second, as they violently shook back and forth as we made our tenuous climb to our room. The room itself smelled of mildew, everything was old and broken, there were suspicious yellow spots on the walls, bedding and floor... my fiancee and I would not take our shoes off the entire time we were there. Third, all the facilities or services they clamour about in their advertisement, so as to - no doubt - attract unsuspecting vacationers, from the sauna, to the whirlpool and the complimentary breakfast... they were constantly closed! I got there at 9am for breakfast, and there was nothing served, no one to speak to, as for the sauna room or whirlpool, the doors were locked so we never got to use or even see them. Fourth, and that's were we decided that it was time for us to drive the 8-hour drive back home, as our vacation had been ruined by the Harbour House Inn... the service was TERRIBLE! After our first night there, we spent the day walking at Peninsula State Park, visiting the local shops, going to the local restaurants, my fiancee and I are a positive couple, we like adventure and we try to see the good in everything. We came back to our hotel room, only to find a nasty, patronizing note written by the manager at our door... Apparently it is now a crime not to make your bed in the morning and to leave towels in the bathroom floor! That letter looked like it was written from a suppervisor admonishing a low-level worker for making a huge mistake. THE TONE WAS UNBEARABLE! This, on top of everything else, just added insult to injury. The terrible service was the final straw... we left a day early and decided to cut our losses short. That hotel ruined our vacation... trust me: STAY AWAY!

Harbor House Inn
By BJ, 6/1/04
My husband and I have been to this Inn each anniversary. Friendly owners and a great atmosphere to relax. Close to Washington Island Passenger Ferry.I believe that the value is better than some of the other resort type facilities. They have a whirpool and a sauna in separate rooms. I can only sing their praises.
