English Inn Restaurant & Pub, Eaton Rapids

I've stayed at the English Inn many times. I have done this in lieu of staying at hotels in Lansing. It is a beautiful building with unique rooms, which are filled with wonderful English antiques. My personal favorite room is the one (forgot its name) in the southwest corner -- most masculine of the suites. The baths are all tiled with beautiful, wonderful (and sometimes amusing) Pewabic tile. Even if you don't stay in it, the "Bath room" (on the north and west side and includes a bedroom and a breakfast room) is so opulent it deserves at least a peak. The continental breakfast is sumptuous, and done in the garden room downstairs. Don't miss going for dinner (5 stars) as it is wonderful. They do great things with sauces and mushrooms. The duck is grand. This is somewhat out of the way (about 10 to 12 miles south of Lansing. On the other hand, Eaton Rapids is a nice little 'antique shop' town, and it is just a couple of miles south. The pub is fun and well stocked with lots of great English beer. The only downside is that some of the rooms do have cold spots in the dead of winter, it is a marginal place for cell phone connections, and the plumbing (this is a 1920's national historic register building) can be somewhat erratic in delivering hot water. They also do banquets (first class). Finally, the grounds extend for about a half mile along the river. Their are English gardens that are very well done indeed.
