Started planning next trip the day we checked out
By PetLover, 01/15/10
Let me say I enjoy staying at the Hilton also. This motel is not a RESORT. It is for us that love the beach and fishing. It was very clean, 4 adults stayed in the 2 room suite and had plenty of room. The ocean view was unbelievable and was right there at the fishing pier. We were there in October and found the best little restaurant to walk to from the motel. Absolutely unbelievable food and value. Everyone was extremely friendly. The room was clean and a great value for us 4 adults. We started planning our next visit the day we checked out and plan on going back in April and October again. For beach lovers and fishermen you cannot beat the value, location, friendliness and cleanliness. We loved it and it will become an annual trip for all of us.

Best Deal on the Beach
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/09
I have stayed at the Jolly Roger on and off for the past 15 years. We just got home from a three night mini-vacation and have already decided to go back in September for a weekend. It is NOT a place to go if you like luxury, but if you like watching the ocean and being right on the beach, this is the perfect place. You can't beat the price for beach front accommodations. The one negative thing is that the balconies are not private. I can't wait to go back.

Loved It!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/21/09
I just wanted to say that I read several reviews about this place both good and bad, and because they didnt have a website, i had some reservations. Called with several questions, we changed our plan last minute and the staff at the Jolly Roger were so nice! We couldnt have asked for better. When we got there, we were VERY impressed. The room was great, the view was amazing. We were very happy. I would also have to say, we will be back. It is the perfect family environment. Yeah there is not a lot to do...but I think that is the entire island, we wanted to relax and that is exactly what we got. We really could not have been happier. Not to mention on this vacation my boyfriend proposed to me....needless to say the Jolly Roger will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Great place if all you do is fish....
By T T, 07/07/09
We just recently stayed here for the first time. This is my honest view of the place. If you are just going to fish it is great. But there is nothing else to do. If you want to shop or good eating places, you have to drive down to Wilmington. We had a room on the 2nd floor, ocean front. Fabulous view. I enjoyed sitting out there relaxing watching the ocean, while my husband fished. The balcony was sectioned off, but no privacy. The room itsself was ok, we saved money by cooking in our room, but had to go out and buy pans and stuff. The air conditioner was nice and cold if you kept it on high, but really loud. My husband had to fix the shower head to take a shower. For the money we paid, $155.00 a night,i was expecting a nicer place. I think it is way overpriced for just a place to stay and fish. Especially with nothing else to really do except sit on the beach. The grill had good food, but expensive too in my opinion. 3 burgers and a french fry , 20 bucks... The staff.....well they would have made our stay more pleasant if they had been nicer...cleaning ladies were nice...the older guy who checked us in was just plain hateful and rude. I don't think we will be staying there again..and the main reason would be the attitude of the staff, the other stuff i could put up with..Oh and when you are paying that much a night to stay in one of your rooms, don't you think you should let your guest fish free from the pier? Cost 11 bucks to fish, on top of the high room rates...

Love the Jolly Roger
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/05/09
My family has been going to the Jolly Roger since my children were one and two. Now they are grown and still want to go to the Jolly Roger. It is a great place for a family and really relax and get away from your hectic life. It is not the fanciest place to go to but absolutely what you need to unwind. Just take a good book, a glass of wine and sit on the front porch and just watch the ocean. Once you get there, you never have to get in a car to do what you want to do. Eat at the Breezway restaurant on the sound, go to the drugstore and get fresh squeezed orangeaids and fresh lemonaid freshly made and a great hamburger and fries. You can shop in the boutique next door or go across the street to a great jewelry store. For the kids you have a miniature golf course, roller skating or just go to the Dairy Queen for a great desert. Then you can go to the Pier next door and fish with your children. You really can let your children just do what they want to do with no worries. Then if you run out of books there is a great book store to browse in and get a good cup of coffee. All of this is just so close by. Just walk everywhere to anything you would need in a vacation. I had some of the most wonderful vacations of my life at the Jolly Roger. The beaches are wonderful and you can look for shark teeth, which was so much fun with the kids. They just loved it. It has been the only beach where I have ever been able to find so many shark teeth. Go and enjoy yourself and just get back to the basics of life. It is worth every moment you spend there. Nothin' fancy - just plain & simple :)
By DC, 01/15/09
If you're looking to be pampered, look elsewhere. If you want a place to relax after a day on the beach and can fend for yourself as far as food, etc - then you can't beat it! Right on the beach next to pier, and within walking distance of shops, convenience store, museum, and Sea Turtle Hospital. Not the Ritz, but beds/furniture comfortable enough. Staff were friendly and accommodating for the extended family we had. Considering it's an oceanfront motel, the prices are decent - first time in awhile I did not feel I got ripped :) All in all a good place - would not mind going back at all!

Had a Blast
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/07/08
spent 3 weeks up there on bussiness with four fishing buddies had an absolute blast The the Jolly Roger is what it is. An escape from the norm. The rooms may not be up to Yuppie standards but they are definitly doable. The pier was great and I met a alot of awsome people on the pier. Thanks to my new found friends Robin, Rob & Jan
