The Jolly Roger Motel, Topsail Beach

Didn't stay here after checking out 2 rooms. It stunk, mattresses had to be 20 yrs. old and hard as a rock. For the price they were asking, it should have been the quality of a Hampton.

As a long time vacationer of Surf City and Topsail Island I recommended this place to my family so we could all be together for the holiday. They were not only charged an outrageous price for a 4 night stay they charged her twice on her card. When she got home and went online to do her monthly bill paying she saw the mistake. She called that evening and was told to call back in the morning and talk to the owner/manager which she did. His response was that he only saw 1 transaction in an end of conversation tone. When she explained that the 728.36 had been taken from her account twice in the same day and that the extra was her bill money and she needed it. HE LAUGHED. She has taken my advice and is letting her financial institution handle this matter. I will not only NEVER recommend this place to anyone, I will deter others from coming here and I will reccommend them to bring coolers and snacks so they nor my family will ever shop at the pier/grill. My best advice would be to pay for your accomodations in cash that way you can't be charged twice, and if this is the only place to sleep PITCH A TENT! It is dirty and sub standard and very much not worth the cost

If your looking for a nice place on the beach this is it. Rooms are very very dated but We spent our time on the beach. I just wish with the Eff we rented it had a microwave. But for the Best Bang for your bucks this is it. We will be back to stay at the Jolly Roger.

The Motel has just the basic amenities... good ole mom and pop motel. It is due for a remodeling... fixtures and furnishings are dated. Have been coming here for years to fish. Staff is excellent. Pier open year round. If you are looking for 5 star hotels... stay in Wilmington. Place was clean... and quiet.

It's convenient ,it's cleaned very day, and if you need any information about the island they can give it to you or help you find the information.

Likes: Great view from the balcony, ok sized room, easy beach access Dislikes: No phone, No wifi, No TV in bedroom, bathroom and bedroom doors don't lock, tried to charge me $20 more than the list price for the room. Room is too small to be called a suite. No sheets or pillows for pull out couch. Pots and Pans are from the dollar store so don't try to cook anything unless you want to lose half of it to sticking. Worth about 130 in season not 180. I have stayed at much nicer places for the same price on more popular beaches that were 10X nicer. Pier is only for fishing no room to walk and no space to stand and enjoy the view.

Loved the location. Family beach - not crowded. Lots of parking, friendly staff, convenience store in walking distance as well as grille.

This place is very good for the price you pay but notice "for the price you pay", the hotel is pretty cheap but its in prime location Im going back there sometime this month and its pretty good. nice fishing and so-so surfing. If your ok without having everything totally pristine then this is the place. also they do have some slightly more expensive but much more maintained rooms. better fun with kids that are 7+ because although the beach is clean the waves might be a little much at times for small children also if your not a fisherman like me I'd recommend staying off the pier even though it might look nice to stroll on its not very safe and some shady characters hang out there once in a while. also if you want to grill buy a cheap 20-30 dollar portable one at a homedepot because even though they say they have grills they don't. This is also a good spot for couples looking for a cheap get away because almost every one is off the beach in the late afternoon and you can get the beach all to yourselves. All in all real fun place for everyone but younger children

I'm astounded. The Jolly Roger Motel breaks records in bad service on just about every level. The rooms are disgusting, dirty, roach-infested toilets. The staff is rude as reported by other yahoo members. Our sink was missing pieces, the beds were stained, the door locks were broken, the whole place is falling apart. The staff doesn't clean up; we were forced to clean out our own trash each day, as housekeeping "forgot" over and over. Don't bother with "the grill" at the pier.... You know what? Just don't bother period.

DISLIKES DEFINITEDLY OUTNUMBER THE LIKES. THE ONLINE PHOTO IS MISLEADING, SUITE IS ABOUT 1/2 THE SIZE OF THE PHOTO. THERE WERE NO SHEETS OR PILLOWCASES FOR THE COUCH BED, NO EXTRA TOILET PAPER, NO TV IN BEDROOM, NO WI-FI, NO LOCKS ON BEDROOM OR BATHROOM DOOR, DIRT BEHIND COUCH & DRESSER, STOPPER FOR KITCHEN SINK DIDN'T WORK, AND THERE WERE NO FORKS IN THE KITCHEN. SON'S ROOM DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A COFFEE POT.
