Love this place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/10/11
Yes, the square is crowded with college kids, decrepit street people, and loitering high school kids; it IS a college town and it IS Humboldt county, after all. That's part of the fun. The square is charming, with fun shopping and good places to eat. You can get all over town and to HSU on foot, which is a great advantage if you don't want to get in the car every time you go somewhere. The hotel itself is a historic gem with a sweeping staircase (elevators, too) leading up from the cozy lobby. Rooms are comfortable, and I've never been bothered by street noise on multiple stays. And… they take pets. I'm looking forward to staying there again next weekend. It's my favorite hotel between SF and Portland.

Noise problem
By Rick, 2/16/11
Liked the history, decor, and location. Did not like the noise from college students exiting in the bars on this block until after 2:00AM. For this reason, I would never stay there again.

Never again
By NGTV, 11/2/08
I like the location, but so do all of the local vagrants so you can't walk 3 feet outside without someone trying to get money from you. The rooms were filthy, smelly, and have ants. There is no service exept for the rude woman who is the manager she will make sure you have a bad time. Seriously one of the worst times I have ever had.

A classic! Beautiful and historical, I'd go to Arcata just to stay here
By Bob D, 5/1/06
The Hotel Arcata is has been around since 1915, and shows it in some fun ways. From the old-style stairwells to the high plaster ceilings, it shows its history well. The property is in generally good shape, and the bathrooms have great clawfoot tubs. There is even wireles internet service throughout the hotel, though it is less reliable than other places I've been to. The hotel was inexpensive and the service was great. Oddly enough, there is a nice sushi place downstairs. As it is right on the Arcata town square, there are lots of shops and places to eat nearby. On the downside, both I and my colleagues staying there found that outside noise came into the rooms readily. In some ways, the hotel does show its age, and some of the fixtures are somewhat worn. I'm looking forward to going back to Arcata and staying at the Hotel Arcata. It was a fun, funky highlight of what could have been a boring business trip.

Rustic in-town hotel!
By Suzi, 9/9/04
When you step into Hotel Arcata, you're instantly taken back to a time when quality and elegance meant something. We stayed a long weekend after journeying through the Redwoods from San Francisco. The hotel sits on the town square and is within walking distance of everything in downtown Arcata.
The room was old-fashioned -in a good way- and had a great claw bathtub, old coil heating registers, and beautiful -yet simple- decoration and design. And very spacious! A good bet if you're venturing to northern California.

great accomodation!
By april, 8/1/04
i spent a weekend in the hotel for a wedding and found my entire experience to be extremely fullfilling in every aspect! The staff were delightful to chat with and provided quick and friendly assistance. My room was able to accomodate many people because of the separate section near the bathroom.

Thanks for making my experience in Humboldt County a memorable one!
