All inclusive doesn't include fun or service
Let me start off by saying that I have experienced all-inclusive's before with the last one being the Rui Palace in Aruba, so I know what to expect. As I saw this was marked as a 4 star and recommened by JetBlue, I figured I would give it a shot.
Let's start with service... or the lack thereof. It was virtually non-existent! They are very attentive to you when you first arrive and then it's like they just let you go. Every restaurant there was the same. God forbid you need a refill for your drink, because you will never get a waiter after the initial seating.
The pool bar by far had to be the worst. Close to ZERO service. There are supposed to be waiters coming to your lounge chair as well asking if we would like a drink. Not once during our 7 day stay did we see a waiter. Also, if you go to eat at the pool bar itself, the wait for a slice of pizza is ludicrous. Mind you, this is not a NY slice of pizza, but a mini, frozen/reheated slice. It took them an HOUR to get our order because they can't multitask. If you order ice cream, you are waiting for the 3 orders before you. There was a family of 6 that ordered from the pool bar, and no one saw food for the next hour and a half.
Which brings me to another annoyance. We are given these wrist bands to wear, saying that we are part of the all inclusive, yet at every step, we were asked for our room number. Being seated "whats your room #?" Our waiter takes our order "whats your room #?" Really? Whats the point of this bracelet and the hostess asking me as well? Same thing at the bar with the same damn bartender. I'm there the whole week. You should know I have the full package due to my bracelet and seeing me everyday.
With bad service comes poor food. I was looking forward to "real mexican food". Well, their nachos stunk, the cheese looked like it was melted cheezwiz and the guacamole was akin to pea soup. There is a small chain here in Brooklyn called Mezcals and that blows this resort out of the water.
The buffets had mediocre food as well and it actually came to the point where we didnt even want the breakfast anymore. A huge let down was the lack of a lunch buffet! Who the hell wants to leave the pool to go and sit down to order food from a restaurant? I guess thats what the pool bar is for...and is 45min - an hour wait time.
Dessert...oh my god what a joke. And not just from the buffet, just in general! The best way to describe it is like a sponge. You know when you have a slightly damp sponge and you press it? Some water comes out...yeah...CAKE is not supposed to do that. It was the nastiest stuff I have ever had. It's like it's been frozen and thawed out in the sun.
Activites are absent from this place as well. All inclusives normally have staff that will setup games and stuff for everyone. Yeah, not this place. Well, thats not entirely true. They hired people from the neighboring clubs to play games like "guess that 80's tune" and you win a t-shirt in the end...but it's just a promotion for a crappy club. Mind you when I saw the shuttle leave for that club at night, many people returned an hour later. Must have sucked big time.
Every now and then, they would have a little entertainment outside. A very small show with food and drinks. Not one ounce of advertisement about that. I would have liked to make dinners plans around it, but we were not informed and already made different plans.
The only positive thing about that place was Da Vinci's. The Italian restaurant and the only one you needed to make a reservation with. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. It's almost like it was run by someone outside of the hotel.
My fiancé and I thought we might have been a little too hard, thinking we got spoiled at the other places, until we started talking to a few people and they all said the same things. I see they already started to post.
Oh, all inclusive doesn't seem to include the minibar either. Omni, take some notes from the Rui, they did it right!
