Disappointed
By Regina, 9/27/09
We were here in 08/2009. Parking was extremely tight. Spaces designed for Mini Coopers were full of vans and SUVs. Everyone had to get out except driver (unless you all wanted to climb out the back hatch) who then manuevered into very tight spots with folks outside the vehicle directing. Our condo had a partial ocean view and had new-ish, clean funiture with sort of random "seaside" decorating. Appliances relatively new and clean but a foul odor hovered around the kitchen sink. The sink looked very old and icky. Apparently hard water not kind to fixtures here because fixtures in master bad were also pitted and worn looking. The master shower stall was disgustingly dirty. I would not get in it until we bought cleansers and scrub brush and scoured it thoroughtly. I swear this thing had not been cleaned in years. There was mildew and black dirty sand and unknown gunk caked all over it. The rest of the place was clean and fresh. Beds comfortable. Towels provided were small and thin but there were plenty of them. All in all, this could have been a fairly nice place if we didn't have to clean that disgusting shower stall. However, I was very disappointed in the quaility for the price we paid. I guess we paid for the ocean view and location because I would say the condo itself not worth it. But the location was nice and the grounds were quite lovely. The pool area was also very nice. If we ever go back to Hilton Head, we will not be staying here.

We went through the owner at villamare.net. The owner price was very reasonable and was very helpful and answered all our questions. The condo was great!

Great Complex & Location But Do Homework 1st
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/30/07
I have stayed in 3 Villamare condos. All were well maintained. The most recent 3 bedroom condo was as close to the water as you could get and professionally decorated. The furnishings were very upscale and recent. Most reputable management companies in Palmetto Dunes will not carry a rundown unit. I too experienced an out-of-service elevator and had to carry groceries up 4 flights of steps, so yes, Villamare needs to replace their old elevators. Parking is a bit of a squeeze, but I've experienced worse on Maui for a much higher price tag. There is absolutely no reason to have a negative experience here if you do your homework. Simply check out the choices on the internet so you know exactly what you are getting. Obviously, if you want close to the water and a fantastic view from every window, you have to pay for it. It's well worth the money. If you want the best, choose a 3 bedroom. If you need reliable elevators and ample parking, Villamare is probably not for you.

Costly but very reasonable for the location.
By Moonlighter, 6/3/06
May/June 2006 The entrance is guarded 24 hours a day, a reason we stayed here. Room was very clean. PARKING IS EXTREMELY TIGHT and minimal but at least it was out of the sun. The rooms were well kept and looked much newer than expected. The balcony railings are easy to climb but the sliding windows and various locks keep the kids off them. We rented a double room actually two units connected with separate entrances through a central foyer. A VERY NICE feature to keep the kids close but NOT TO CLOSE. Large comfortable beds, TRANE air conditioning, plenty of HOT WATER that kept us comfortable. A workable floor plan that suits families and couples. Better than renting connecting rooms at some of the best hotels! The location is a strong point not INSIDE of the traffic circles but close to everything.

DON'T STAY HERE!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/11/05
We rented an oceanfront room at the Villamare in August, 2005. The location and view were great - but it ended there. Only one of the two elevators worked. The service man was there but after the elevator was "fixed" the people getting off while we were waiting said it dropped them at least one floor. They were ok but very shaken. The paint on our balcony was chipping off, my two year old got a mouth full when he leaned against the rail. All the exteriors of the doors and windows were scratched. The rails on the balconies were horizontal so my three boys were using them as a ladder to climb up. Subsequently I did not feel comfortable letting them on the balcony. The parking spaces in the garage were very, very tight and hard to come by. Our room was very run down. The carpets were stained, doorknobs were broken, and the applainces were very outdated (and some of them did not work). There was a crack in one of the tubs and all of the faucets were rusted and had pieces broken off of them. The furniture was old, worn, and faded. We called our management company the same day we arrived and secured our money back. We left that night. I did not even want my children walking on that carpet without shoes on. I am sure that some of the condos have probably been maintained much better than ours, but that is too much of a risk for us to take. We lost two days of vacation leaving this place and trying to find a new place and then driving there. For $2500 a week we expected much, much better accommodations.

We are going back again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/14/05
We loved the Villamare! This will be our fourth vacation to Hilton Head Island. We have enjoyed each place that we have stayed, but the Villamare was clean, had a fabulous view of the ocean, had a large pool, and was central to restaurants, shopping and other attractions. The Villamare is an excellent place for families to stay. We enjoyed it so much last year that we are going back again this year!
