Great Place to stay
By Ginna Cortese, 2/5/12
I went to a show in Durham NC on the 3rd of February, which was a Friday night. I got a room for just the one night and the service I got from the Marriott hotel was great. My husband was out of town and could not go to the show with me so being a female alone I was given free valet parking. That was great and I really appreciated it. I got to the hotel late and was very hungry so I ate at the hotel before the show. The food at the Marriott was much better than I had expected, I'm glad I ate there. Then when it was time for the show the Marriott offered free shuttles. The room was perfect and within walking distance to everything. The Marriott gave me the military discount which I thought was great. Over all I have to say that the next time I attend a show or stay in Durham NC this is the place I will stay! You could not ask for a better place with better service than the Marriott. I was very pleased.

Great experience!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/3/11
Staff was great, valet parking, free shuttle, our room was available early as we requested. The staff treated us like royalty !!! They recommended a place to eat lunch within walking distance named "Toast". Great Italian sandwich shop with all homemade food a MUST go to place while there!!! We will be coming back

terrible service despite big city prices
By John Hawkins, 1/2/10
I should have known there would be a problem when I tried to book the room by calling the number on their website for the front desk of the hotel - but no one answered for five minutes. we had a lot of bags, and no one was waiting at the door of the hotel to valet our car or take our bags despite us arriving at a reasonable hour of 9pm on a Wed. self-parking is not allowed until after check-in, and even worse, the lot is two blocks away outdoors. the check-in lady was less than helpful in describing how to get to the lot, and to say we didn't appreciate having to lug our bags over those two blocks in the cold and rain is an understatement. our room was freezing when we got in - the air conditioning was turned on at the end of december. the pillows were either much too hard or much too soft. and the alarm clock had been inexplicably set to a 6am alarm. cell phone reception is impossible for most major carriers. The hot water in both the shower and sink took on average three minutes to kick in over each of the four days we were there. that is so unacceptable that it should require a warning to guests in advance but of course there was no such heads-up. during out entire time there, not a single staff person spoke to us or greeted us or showed any friendly tendencies whatsoever. whenever we walked by the concierge's desk or the fronk desk, staff would rarely but occasionally look up at us but never did we even get a smile. I felt like I was a leper despite being a well-dressed businessman on a vacation with my wife. Once I asked the front desk if I could borrow an umbrella and was told "nope" with a look like I was asking for a kidney. the bad service was symbolized by the dirty dishes that were left by the door to our room for our entire stay by whomever had been in our room before us. my mother always taught me to never say something critical without something positive, so I will say that the bartender was pleasant, the rooms were stylish, and the housecleaning staff did a nice job making our room clean. but this hotel thinks it can charge big city rates for a small town hotel that doesn't want to even try to get the easy things right. I travel often, and am a top level member of Hilton Honors and Starwood Rewards, but this experience has convinced me to stay away from Marriotts in the future.

Very Good Experience Overall
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/20/07
We enjoyed the hotel's central location, within walking distance to shopping and a variety of restaurants. The hotel also provides a free shuttle to nearby attractions, which was very convenient. The on-site steak house was quite good, as was the service. We were very (pleasantly!) surprised to find that the concierge lounge was open on the weekends, as this is becoming quite a rarity for Marriott properties. Great hot breakfast! The room was clean, but definitely starting to show some wear; the common areas could use some sprucing up as well. However, the service at this hotel is among the best we have ever enjoyed at any Marriott property - the staff was EXTREMELY friendly, courteous and eager to please in every way. What a difference good service can make!

Not impressive
By Krisanne C, 5/9/07
I've had numerous problems with billing and while Marriott's customer service folks have been great at trying to work things out, the hotel has been less than helpful. Bedding is comfortable, free wireless is a plus, and the concierge lounge is open on weekends. But the bathrooms are impractically-tiny, the service is spotty (another room's used room service tray was out so long that it attracted ants).

Nice Hotel
By Ray-Ray, 4/8/06
This hotel is a nice weekend getaway. My wife and I stayed here several times. We stayed here during the World's Greatest Beer Festival. We also stay here for Durham Bulls games. You can either take the 5 or 10 minute walk or the hotel has a free shuttle. It is also near Brightleaf Square, which has shops and bars. I like this hotel very much and I would recommend it.
