This Manhattan hotel is situated right along the Hudson River and as a result it features some great views. This is by no means a luxury hotel however and rooms are very basic. There are good restaurants in the vicinity, and gorgeous Riverside Park is across the street. The park is a great place to jog or walk, and afterward you can visit the surrounding Upper West Side neighborhood and see how New Yorkers really live. There are also subway stops convenient to the rest of Manhattan. Most rooms are available with shared bathrooms only.

Great location and friendly staff
By Chris, 01/13/09
The location is quiet and safe and the view of the Hudson is terrific. The staff allowed us to put our bags in slighty before check-in and also gave us a generous grace period after check out. They also gave us a recommendation for a great healthy breakfast at the New Wave Cafe 3 blocks away. The room (double for $119) was small and it was needing renovation but all the basics were there and clean. Great access to museums and Linclon Center all within a 1 mile walk.

A smelly dump
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/08
There was nothing to like about this place. It was dirty, the cockroaches were large and lively, the pervasive smell of pesticides (which obviously didn't work from the size of the roaches in our room) was sickening. The "suite" was two small dorm rooms joined by a bathroom. Admittedly they mention that the rooms are small but they say nothing about communication through the bathroom. The only positive thing was the water pressure.

I don't think so!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/17/07
The photos and description on the internet are a bit deceiving. Small rooms would not have been the problem, but the rooms were not clean(the window blinds needed a scraper to get them clean),the paint was chipped & dirty, and the odor in the hall & room was indescribable. The person at the desk was kind & courteous, and refunded our $$ immediately. We ended up at a hotel in Queens which only cost us $200 more for wonderful lodging & secure parking. The subway ride was not a problem.

Seedy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/03/07
The only good thing to say about this hotel is the price. We found cockroaches, mold in the shower, dirty carpeting, no cable TV, no coffee available in the hotel, and we stayed in what is referred to as a "suite" --- puleeeeeze!!! The cockroach spray, which seems to be applied daily, has a lingering offensive odor. This hotel is not deserving of a star rating.

just alright
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/15/07
The staff was kind and friendly. The location was fine - a few blocks from the subway and from Central Park. The rooms were not what we expected. The building is older, hence the rooms are too. We were disappointed in the rooms not looking like the pictures we saw online. Descriptions were a bit misleading - a suite is two rooms with a joint bathroom. Three bed suite - one bed in each room with a trundle bed undereneath.

I wouldn't let my dog stay here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/20/06
We ordered a "suite" for the four of us. Are they serious? 3 towels...NO amenities. The bathroom was in between the two rooms. Couldn't go through w/o checking who was in the bathroom. Sleep on the street if you have to. It's a dump!!!!!

if you need a place to sleep
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/05/06
i think tnis place is good for the people that want to visit the city not for the people that wants to stay a lot of time in the hotel. the rooms were very small but I didn´t care because I went with a group of school and we went to stay in the rooms a little time, we just need a place to sleep because all the day we were taking a walk and visiting the places. there was something wrong with the tv but i didnt need it because we almost always stayed out. the location was excelent.

Small Dump / Nice Neighborhood
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/23/06
The problem is that the building is too skinny. And they tried to jam too much into each floor. So you get really really small and crowded rooms. It sounds funny, but even the elevators are skinny. The Upper West Side location is nice, safe and pleasant. If you are patient, you can park on the street for free. Prices are economical. Room came with refrigerator and microwave. TV's don't work. There are bugs. Maintenance is limited to more and more paint.

Give the riverside a try!
By Ryan, 06/30/06
When I first booked a room at the riverside and came here to look at reviews, I was a little worried. I looked around for other hotels but every thing was at least double in price so I decided to try it out. It was not bad at all, there were no bugs, sure the rooms were small and kinda designed weird and outdated but the building is in New York and eveything is old in new york so what do you expect. the location was great, it was in a nice safe neigborhood and 2 blocks from the subway that is a few stops to times square. The views of the hudson rver are an added bonus. For the time we spent in the room we are glad we stayed here. All we really did was sleep there and they had clean sheets and towels. Its no 4 star but its really not as bad as some of the people on here make it. If you wanna spend your money on attractions instead of hotels this is the place to stay.

STAY AWAY!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/22/05
THIS PLACE IS A DUMP WITH A GOOD RATE. THE PRICE IS NOT WORTH WHAT YOU GET BY NO MEANS. THE ONLY THING THAT WAS NICE WAS ONE OF THE NIGHT LADIES AND THAT WAS ALL. THE MANAGER WAS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND VERY UNREASONABLE. WHEN WE ARRIVED WE FOUND OUT THAT OUR SUITE HAD BEEN GIVEN AWAY TO ANOTHER PARTY WHO HAD MORE PEOPLE IN THEIR GROUP. THE PURPOSE OF RESERVATIONS WAS A TOTAL MIS-UNDERSTOOD CONCEPT TO THIS MAN. WE ENDED UP IN A VERY SMALL ROOM THAT WAS NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR TWO PEOPLE WITH LUGGAGE. THIS PLACE WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE WITH A OUT-OF-TOWN HOTEL THAT I HAVE EVER HAD. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. I PROMISE!!!!!
