Authentic Mexican
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/10
We just got back from a one-week stay at the Hacienda and I felt I needed to comment (seeing as I studied the comments left here before we left). If you are looking for a relaxing beach holiday, this would be a great choice of hotels. Given it is not a "fancy" hotel, but it is authentic mexican style which left us feeling very comfortable there. The staff is fantastic, the grounds and rooms are exceptionally clean. The food was terrific (maybe lacks in variety but we certainly did not go hungry ever!). The beach is about a three minute walk away (there is a shuttle bus that runs frequently) but the facilities on the beach front were excellent. There is a WalMart and a mall 2 blocks away. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend this hotel to our family and friends.

Skip or you'll regret it
By Carlos, 4/7/09
Horrible rooms, AC noisy, smelly. You could not get service in the restaurant unless you had the "all inclusive package". I guess our money was not good there (go figure). Never go on Sept 16th unless you want the noisiest and dirtiest pool, People skip it!

Great Authentic Mexican Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/16/09
We just returned from a one week stay at the Hacienda Hotel & Spa (Feb 09). We wanted an authentic Mexican vacation and that's what we got! If you're looking for a 5 star glossy hotel - go somewhere else. The Hacienda decor is rustic but clean. Yes, the beds are hard, but we slept like babies! The staff are friendly and are continually grooming the grounds, sweeping tiles, wiping tables. They waited on us hand and foot. The two a la cartes are great - one visit per restuarant per week. Fresh made-to-order omlettes every morning, fresh fruit galore! The beach is about a 2 block walk and yes, it's through construction, but you do have the option of using the hotel bus service to the beach. There's a great beach club. Hotel is a great location - grocery store next door, 10 minute walk to Wal-Mart, bus to downtown right at the corner. About 5 minutes from Marina where a lot of the tours leave from. On the last day I found a neat little market about 3 blocks from the hotel (right at the Marina) – walk north to the gas station and turn left – a couple blocks and you’re there!. The Malecon is a "must see". Shows on Sunday evening are spectacular. We went on three tours - Sans Sebastian (great culture), City Tour (they put us on the wrong bus so we had the wrong tour but they gave us our money back) and Rhythms of the Night. Next time we'll skip the tours and stay at the hotel. We already paid for all inclusive meals and drinks - when you go on tours you pay again. A bus trip to nearby Buscerias is another must-see! The buses are everything you hear about - fast and rattly! But all part of the experience. Be on the look-out for time-share agents everywhere! One tour guide said PV has a very low crime rate. We felt safe but of course, be careful at all times. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

Not happy with facilities....
By Shelley, 2/14/09
I do have to say that the servers were friendly and the food was pretty good. Now on the other hand, the rooms were terrible...we went with another family and there air conditioner sounded like a freight train.. we asked them to look into it..which they did, but never fixed it...someone vomited in the pool--our complaint for clean up did nothing, was never cleaned up..we had to pull our kids out of the pool and they weren't very happy about that...other guests were spilling drinks in the pool and no one did anything about it..the kids club wasn't open once when we were there..they posted entertainment every night and nothing ever happened. We ended up moving hotels ourselves...on friday( check out day ) we went back to our rooms and they had already given our rooms to other guests before check out time.....and they denied it...We would not recommend this facililty to anyone we know. Mngmt is very poorly ran. Calgary AB..

We loved this place...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/27/09
We would go back in a heartbeat but because we only can get away one week/year we wanted beachfront. Stayed here early Mar.2008 and loved our room, the food (and drinks! 'specially good California wine by the glass, beer, mixed drinks), and lovely service. Sparkling clean, beds hard by some standards(hubby & I loved) Beach grill excellent--walk to beach not so great--once construction is done probably better. We could not complain-and price was excellent for what we got. Great all round, would recommend to all! Location only minus-not beachfront.

Good value place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/08
I stayed at this place in 2001 and they gave me an upgraded room without charge because there were a lot of vacancies. It was very quiet and clean and I liked my room, it had a Roman Style bath and nice tiled floor. I did not do all inclusive for the food so cannot judge the quality of the food. They did allow me to bring " guests" in the room at night at the time; although I suspect the security has tightened up since.

Horrible Mattress on Bed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/21/08
If you want a good night's sleep, stay somewhere else. The mattresses are rock hard, and management was not interested in dealing with our complaint. I backpack and sleep on a thin little foamy on the ground and i get a way better sleep than I did on their mattress. I suspect that all rooms do not have the terrible mattresses or more people would be mentioning it, but it seems to be the luck of the draw, and don't expect management to provide you a room change to a more comfortable mattress. The staff were friendly and helpful at the pool and restaurants. Breakfast was excellent, supper was mediocre. Great presentation of the supper meal, but food was so so. I quite liked the "old mexico" design of the hotel, not like the "touristy" hotels. If they only had decent mattresses, this would be a great place to stay!!!

Do not use this price to compare with the other 5 star hotel, staffs are nice and helpful. The rooms look a bit old but very clean.

went for the honemoon, had to come back!
By Jarrod, 10/15/06
We absolutely cannot say enough good things about this hotel and the people who work there. My wife and I were both raised in mexico, south of Vallarta, so we weren't in for any suprises there. When we got married in our "hometown" of La Manzanilla, we knew that we wanted to get away just a little, but without getting on a plane or breaking the bank. We booked our stay on Orbitz, got a great deal of $97 per night for all-inclusive superior room. We also booked a night at one of the 750-room mega hotels, just to hedge our bets in case the Hacienda was less than we had expected. We were married on new year's eve, 2004, and our honemoon stay at La Hacienda was from Jan3-7, 2005. Our room was gorgeous, with a view of the courtyard. In anticipation of our stay, the staff had decorated the room with flowers and towel-animals, filled the bath, made hearts on the bedspread, filled the bath, and generally made it quite inviting. The staff was amazingly gracious and attentive the entire time we were there, and always made us feel like honored guests. The food was great. While there wasn't nearly the variety of food the other all-inclusives we have stayed at (Holiday inn, Riu Jalisco) had, it was all of very high quality and very tasty. Much more palatable than the other hotel buffets we have seen. When we had to leave to go to our other hotel, the mega resort, we were so sad. It was a huge disappointment after our stay at the Hacienda. But we loved the Hacienda so much, we went back again in aug/sept 2006! This time we booked directly with the hotel reservations desk, and even though they weren't able to accomodate our request for our honeymoon room again, they went to the same lengths to decorate the room before our arrival and to make us feel like honeymooners again. Also, they were kind enough to upgrade our room to superior for the standard price. Again the food was wonderful, the staff attentive... Many of them even remembered us from our last stay. As long as you know the things that this hotel is not- not on the beach, not huge, not a party-palace... You can really appreciate the things that this hotel is- full of character, warm, friendly. Like I said, we have stayed at several hotels in Vallarta, and we simply will not stay anywhere else ever again. We'd really like to thank the folks who have written reviews here, as it was primarily these reviews that helped us to decide to come to this hotel in the first place. That being the case, I thought we'd be remiss not to contribute a review in kind. I kept meaning to after our honeymoon, and never got around to it... But after the repeat performance, we think a glowing review is the least we can do.

Warm, friendly staff
By cocojojo, 7/14/06
Traveled to Hacienda on a package deal involving 5 other trips. Was expecting to be disappointed, because usually travel to 5* resorts. Was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness and eager to please staff. Traveled as a woman alone and always felt safe, ie left $$ by pool and in my room and never had a problem. As the Hacienda seems to be a gathering place for groups of friends and families, everyone made me feel so welcome and part of their group. Yes the beds are hard, but the friends I made and memories I will always have more than make up for that. The maids kept my room very clean and always had fresh towels and a freshly made bed. Water aerobics and yoga (Thank-you Adrian!!!) kept me going in the mid-morning. The bartenders always remembered my name and knew what I wanted to drink.. In the evenings, Adrian and "Angel" would take us on downtown tour of the nightclubs. Plan on returning SOON, just to experience the "real" Mexico. Again Thank-you Adriane, your enthusiasm with the water aerobics and the way you make people smile made my vacation! Gracias!!
