so relaxing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/07/09
We love staying at Black Bear Resort. You enter the property and immediately begin to relax. The cabins are clean, cozy and comfortable. The heated swimming pool is amazing. There is also a fitness trail, tennis and basketball courts. In the winter, it is a great base for downhill and cross country skiing, in the summer, mountain biking and nature hikes. Truly a hidden gem.

Awesome find!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/23/08
We stumbled across this resort by accident...and are so glad we did! The wide open spaces and available activities are great for the kids -- and also allow just a nice relaxing vacation without spending a TON of money! Price is amazing for the value!

Definitely hit or miss
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/10/08
We stayed in a "luxury" pedestal. There was nothing luxury about it. It was dusty, had old carpeting, and in need of renovation. It was not cleanly, mainly because things need to be replaced and are not very cleanable. The location was great - very convenient to ski areas and lovely view of the woods. The kitchen was functional and easy to use.

Hit or miss
By Paul, 02/06/08
We stayed in cabin 81 to do some skiing. The units are owned by different people and the resort management is responsible for cleaning and stocking the supplies. Overall we were comfortable; the beds were comfortable with enough sheets and blankets (the maid, though, did not change the pillowcases so we found hair on them. Fortunately there were extra pillowcases). The heat worked fine and the fireplace really kicked out the heat. There wasn't enough toilet paper - the 5 of us almost went through the meager supply. Bring your own Kleenex - it's not supplied. Decor was ok, but overall the place needs some care from the owners. Window blinds were either missing or incomplete. Storm windows wouldn't close all the way (and when it's 5 degrees outside, you want that!). I wish we'd had a 4wd vehicle. The roads are plowed but the driveways aren't salted or sanded. Some of the driveways are at a downward angle and our front wheel drive car got stuck. I had to haul some gravel to give the car traction. The steps to the cabin entrance weren't cleared well so I picked up ice melt in town. Overall the resort is a good value in winter. It's close to town and skiing. The trick is to find a unit you like and stick with it. We may go back again, but not to cabin 81.

Almost Paradise?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/25/08
Off a winding mountain road lies Black Bear Resort. It's an unassuming place, almost hidden, spread out over a sizeable wooded property. If you think of a resort only as a Club Med, you're probably in for a disappointment; everyone else will be thrilled. The cabins are clean and spacious; there's a walking trail, a big pool, a tennis court, and a mini-golf course. Other than that, you're on your own - and that's just perfect. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, Black Bear Resort is a laid-back, friendly place to unwind and recharge your batteries. No highways, no city lights - just clean, fresh mountain air by day and, at night, a glittering canopy of stars unknown to most city folk. The best part? You can't beat Black Bear Resort for value. I've found no place to equal it; you'd expect to pay double for what you get. This gem can't remain hidden for long.

Just Awesome!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/27/07
We have been coming to Black Bear Resort for many years. Sometimes 2-3 times per year. It is awesome both in the summer and the winter. Things to do all year round. Our kids love it as well as me and my husband. Last visit (September 07) we actually saw a bear cub in Davis! In the summer, there is a nice, clean pool, awesome fishing (my husband caught a citation carp) tennis, miniature golf...just too many things to do for all ages. We always make a long weekend out of it as they offer 4 nights for the price of 3, you just can't beat that. You will not be disappointed. The cabins are so cozy and well decorated. You'll feel right at home.

A perfect getaway
By Redwitch116, 11/06/07
It's not easy for a middle-aged couple to find the perfect spot for a romantic getaway -- but Black Bear Resort is it! A clear, star-filled sky viewed from the lovely deck of our cabin... a feeling of complete privacy, but with every amenity... incredible scenery all around, to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace... a beautiful nearby golf course. I can't recommend Black Bear Resort too highly. It was an excellent value, a lovely little hideaway I'm sure we will return to. (Tips: don't miss a world-class seafood dinner at the Golden Anchor, just a few miles away. And visit the area when we did, in mid-October, for stunning fall foliage and none of the ski crowds.)

Go there several times a year
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/04/07
I love just doing nothing for a weekend. No noise, no interstate, and lots and lots of stars in the sky!!! Luxury cabin porches and hot tubs are the absolute best for the get away!!!

Amazing!!!!
This was the best place I have ever stayed. Quiet, relaxing and the most beautiful views of the mountains. The kids loved the cozy pedestal that we stayed in. It was incredibly clean too. Blackwater Falls State Park is only a few miles away, and it has gorgeous views of the mountains, valley, and 3 waterfalls. I was disappointed that we were only there for 2 nights. Great price for what you get. The pool was also very well kept and clean.

Picture Postcard Beautiful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/06
What a surprize Find! Value beyond belief. Beautiful landscape and warm friendly people. If you want to do nothing but unplug or you want to raise your heart rate mountain biking, hiking or white water rafting this is the place to go. My husband and daughter enjoyed some father - daughter time while trail riding on several of the guided horseback riding tours while I stayed back at the house and enjoyed a soak in the bubble filled candle lit jacuzzi. Heaven on earth!!
