Avoid the Napanee Inn
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/5/06
Our night's stay at the Napanee Inn in July of 2006 was the one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had in a hotel. We thought it unusual to find ear plugs in the room upon our arrival. This hotel is located across the street from train tracks on which trains soar by every few minutes. There is an intersection in front of the hotel at which the engineer blows his whistle several times--a sound so loud that it could "wake the dead." We had planned to stay 2 nights, but checked out after the first night and moved to the Inn at Armish Acres (owed by the same business and located about a mile away on the same street).
The hotel has very thin walls and the beds and pillows should be better for the price charged--one can feel the mattress springs just by rubbing a hand across the mattress top. In between the startling sound of the train, we were awakened by activity inside of the hotel--children running up and down the hallways, and from the adjacent rooms, we heard bath water running, telephones ringing, voices, TVs, and snoring.
The Inn at Armish Acres, although across from the street from the train track, is a better hotel. The beds are more comfortable, although the second floor is creaky. Sounds from the train are buffered by a car dealership located directly in front of the hotel and the engineer does not blow his horn in front of this hotel because there is no intersection there.
Food at the Armish Acres Inn is average at best, but you won't leave hungry with the plentiful family style servings.
