Clean, comfortable, service mediocre

Room was clean, breakfast was not good at all, manager not easy to work with at all (and his staff seems to agree!)
We brought our two dogs to this "pet-friendly" hotel. They charged a one-time $50 non-refundable pet fee for 2 nights, which we agreed to. After staying the first night, however, we thought we might stay in the Clayton / Hiawassee area the second night, since we would be looking at real estate in that area most of the day.
We asked if we could check out and then come back that night if we decided not to stay in Clayton. They said sure, no problem. The front desk staff all knew we had our two dogs staying with us. What they neglected to tell us was that they would charge us another $50 pet fee if we checked back in that night, even though we had already agreed to and paid for the first $50 they had quoted us for TWO NIGHTs.
After deciding not to stay in Clayton we arrived that evening back at the Comfort Inn and requested our room. It had already been cleaned and reserved for another guest. So we said okay, fine, give us another pet friendly room. That is when the girl at the desk told me there would be ANOTHER $50 pet charge. I politely asked to speak with the manager (it was the mgr. that I had made our original 2-night reservation with). She got him on the phone and told him the situation leaving out many of the details of the conversation she had with me that morning before we checked out. The mgr. refused to speak with us on the phone when she asked him. It was late, we were tired from traveling all day. I finally convinced her to call him back and after doing everyting I could, he finally agreed to speak with me. He says b/c they "DEEP CLEAN" the pet rooms after every stay (he could not clarify what deep cleaning meant), he had to charge us another $50. I said if your staff had explained this to us when we checked out, we would have never checked out!!
After several pleas, he finally agreed not to charge us the pet fee again.
