Just like the home you've always dreamed of...
By ,
Chateau Tivoli is more than a place to stay...it is an experience. The ambiance, charm and character of the place is matched (actually surpassed) by the folks who manage it and your stay here will be one to remember. The neighborhood has improved dramatically and we felt comfortable walking around at night and going to Alamo Square in the morning (just two blocks south) to read the paper and take in the views which are spectacular. While this is a very romantic place for couples, it also caters to many single guests as well so you won't feel like the lone ranger if you come here by yourself. You will just feel lucky. The bed was firm and comfortable while the towels and linens were industrial quality. Hey, they still worked fine and the bath water was hot in the morning. What more can you ask for...the place seems just like home. If you are fond of older architecture and decorating, this place is a treasure chest with art nouveau throughout the down stairs, consistent to the time the home was built. The wall papering and wordwork is a marvel just to observe and appreciate. If you want a real San Francisco experience this is the place. The location is right in the center of SF and a short walk or bus ride away from just about anyplace you care to go. We hit North Beach, SOMA, Union Square and Golden Gate Park with little effort. The breakfast and wine/cheese reception are top notch and easily worth $50, making your room more economical. It is very, very quiet inside with very little street noise noticed. Parking was better than imagined during the 3pm check-in and we only had to move the car once for the street sweeping. And the coffee is GREAT! We include a special thanks to Meredith and Nico for making our stay so wonderful and we plan to return soon.

1st trip to SF - INCREDIBLE
By ,
During October 2007, I made my first trip to SF. I stayed here twice during my extended trip. The first stay I was on the second floor. Arriving late at night, I was please to find access to the B&B extremely easy, but very secure with the lock box and private code. Once entering, the sight of the place was breath-taking. Our room was incredible with a private bath. The entire house is spotless and the staff, you couldn't ask for a more friendly, helpful and informative group. They provided information about places to eat, where to go, how to get around, provided maps, called for cabs and made us (and everyone staying there) feel like we were best friends and wanted us to have the time of our lives. The second stay was even better. We already had high expectations and they were surpassed. We stayed in the ground floor room which actually has two seperate rooms with beds, private bath and private entrance. We looked forward to the daily afternoon wine and cheese social. We could talk with the staff and other guests about ideas for the evening. OVERALL - INCREDIBLE AND CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK.

overpriced, little value
By ,
Stayed there in October, 2007. My advice if you are thinking about it – “don’t.” Sincere, well-meaning, honest staff – that’s the only thing good about the place. (Although there is no staff there after 7 at night so when our bed frame fell apart there was nothing to do but drag the mattress onto the floor.) The place is exceptionally noisy, old as in decrepit, and not particularly clean. If it were $100 a night cheaper, you’d ignore all that. But for what they charge, it is unbelievably overpriced. They try to justify it by serving wine in the evening and trying to make breakfast on the weekend seem pretentious. You could take the money you are paying for the white table cloth and invest it in a good meal out, a decent bed, and a chance at a good night’s sleep.

Charming Chateau Tivoli Is Worth It!
By ,
It was our first visit to San Francisco, and we feel so lucky to have discovered the Chateau Tivoli. Located steps away from the postcard-perfect Alamo Square (with those gorgeous pastel Victorian houses), as well as the Japan Center (where you must try the sushi-boat restaurant), the Chateau is sumptuously appointed and beautifully maintained. Each room is its own jewel, with charming furnishings and commitment to authenticity similar to the Ritz-Carlton in Paris. The service is warm and inviting. It is the best and only choice, and we will return.

Chateau Tivole was so much more than we ever expected. The atmosphere was unbelievable. The rooms were charming and the service was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed everything--from the rooms filled with antiques to the food to the comfort. We all were charmed by our experience at Chateau Tivoli.
