I WILL NEVER DINE HERE AGAIN!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/1/11
I will never Dine here again! My friends and I decided to eat here for New Year's Eve Dinner. We had reservations for six. We asked for a table when making reservations but when we got there they only had booths to accommodate a party of six. The atmosphere and decor was nice, some of the food was delightful but the service was absolutely horrible! They had a limited menu for New Year's Eve. It was hard to interpret with few options. For $85.00 a person you would expect something outstanding. The waiter was inexperienced and had very poor people skills. The hostess wasn't any better. Our waiter made no effort to make us feel welcome or appreciated. He barely did the minimum in serving us. It seemed like we were a burden to them. They could not explain the menu to us clearly. When we asked to see the wine list they had no recommedations and knew nothing about wine. They could not explain the types or similarities of Italian Wines. We were expecting nice warm bread for an apaetizer but they brought out one small loaf that was hard and cold. We had to ask them to heat it for us. The waiter then got our dinners mixed up which I thought was ridiculous since three of us ordered the same thing. After we recieved our first course we realized we did not have enough place settings or water glasses. Luckily someone did not want their water. After I took a sip I could soon see why. The water literally tasted like it came from a garden hose or laundry room faucet. When our main course came I recieved mine with a nice surprise. I had a thick black curley hair on my plate. I don't think this came from the two blonde women sitting next to me or myself for that matter. GROSS!! After we polked a little fun at the waiter for the poor service we received; he came around and put some effort into his job but it didn't last long. Finally we were ready to leave. Four of us needed take away boxes for our meals. The hostess came and took our plates to box them up. When she returned she could not remember who's dinner was who's Since three of us had the same dinner it now presented a problem. I'm not opposed to sharing but for the money we spent we would have liked to go home with our own dinner. The hostess pretended she knew who's was who's but it was evident she had no idea when I recieved a different meal entirely. I did not order the swordfish! I ordered lamb. Besides the swordfish was way overcooked! I was grossed out by now and wanted to leave immediatley. I could see experiencing this type of service at Dennys or IHOP on a SUNDAY morning of a waiters first day, bu here? On New Year's Eve? This cost us about $600.00 which was probably the worst $600.00 We've ever spent.

We will Definitely stay here again!
By AprilV, 9/8/08
I decided to stay at the Hotel De Anza becuase they had a package for the Winchester Mystery House as that was our destination for my husband's birthday. The hotel was very affordable, and as part of the package we received 2 tickets to the Winchester Mansion, free food from 10pm-5am, and a free breakfast buffet, which helped save money. The room as nicely appointed with many amenities. The employees there were very friendly and helpful. I had arranged to have a birthday cake brought to our room for my husband as a surprise. They never mentioned it when my husband was around, and exactly when I requested the cake was delivered to our room. It was wonderful. They also offer a complimentary video library; but we chose instead to watch Iron Man because we had not had a chance to see it in the theatre and it was not available on DVD yet. Probably the only thing I did not like was the parking. When I made my reservation it offered for $20 to add valet parking and so I chose to forgo that expense figuring that there would be parking within in walking distance to the hotel. This was not the case and it was not mentioned on their website or when I booked our room. So I wound up paying the additional $20 when we got there. All in all a really nice hotel definitely deserving it's 4 stars.

2 star disguised as 4 star
By R M, 5/28/08
Terrible location. Hard to find. No parking available. Management with bad attitude. No free wireless or internet available in the rooms. Equipment in the rooms does not work. Iron. Romote. Not a 4 star hotel. Extended stay is better than De Anza. Incompetent management.

What's not to like?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/07
What's the deal with employees that grin, not just smile, but grin. Once I got over the idea that perhaps my fly was down I found it's just a custom at the De Anza to enjoy life. Can't say I've had such a nice stay at any hotel for the past few years. Couple the service, value, location and art deco charm and you have a winner. Just love this place....especially the midnight free buffet. Yum

very nice hotel..cute. very nice location right in the San Jose downtown. I would definitely go back there. I was impressed with the ambiance in my room. Very bright and cozy, yet inexpensive. The aircon though is noisy.

This hotel is garbage
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/19/07
I dont know how they got this place listed as a 4 star hotel, it is a 2 at best. No wonder they were the cheapest "4" star hotel on Priceline. And whatever your hotel bill is for this place add 25 bucks a day to it because you have to pay for parking , which they conveniently leave out in there description. The rooms are about as big as a large closet, the tub is right next to the toliet, which is a great view while your taking a bath. The neighborhood looks a war-zone and you can't open your windows at night because it's so loud around there. But at least I got to sit in the hot-tub....oh wait they don't have one there. A real tell-tell sign of a "4" star hotel, no pool.

Great rooms, terrible manager
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/31/07
Loved the rooms. Very peaceful and beautiful. The pantry is nice as is the different creative packages they have. The customer service is very impersonal though. Especially the Reservations Manager, name starts with an R. She gives you this fake attitude like you're important to her, but you can tell deep down she wished you weren't there. A total fake. Overall, it's in a great location and lots of fun. If you can get past the managements attitudes, you will have a good time.

I love this hotel
By Veronica, 4/26/07
My daughter and I went with my husband on his buisness trip and we had a wonderful time. All the staff was great with my 2 year old and we never got any dirty looks for having a young child in a fancy place. They have free DVD's and VHS tapes at the front desk. WE often took advantage of thier "RAid our pantry room" on the second floor, again it was free. They have free cookies and fruit at the front desk. I was able to check my email in thier buisness center. The staff there were again wonderful and accepting of my small child. The only think I would advise against was the breakfast. It wasn't exceptional and there are other places around to get breakfast. The main restaurant is great for lunch and supper.

location was perfect
By travel qa, 2/28/07
The location was perfect and the staff went out of their way to assist us with information on ski packages, tours and shopping. The service was great! The complimentary breakfast was a real treat and a money saver. We met other guests from all over the United States and enjoyed visiting with them.

This is our new place to say.
By n2shkspr, 3/31/06
Our son attends college at Santa Clara University, but nice hotels have been hard to come by, especially close to campus. On our fifth attempt, we stayed at De Anza and it was beautiful, clean and close to campus. Stay away from the second floor street side on weekends, apparently it is a big cruising street and the base from every car throbs through the windows late into the night. VERY ANNOYING. Parking is tough, if you don't valet, the street is the only option. Free at night, but start ticketing 6am. Valet is courteous, but call down to get them to go get your car before you go down. They are busy running to get cars of other guests and you'll find yourself alone with no one to talk to about getting yours. Give yourself about 15 mins. or so, more in the AM during the week. Finally, a place to be, the search is over. We will definitely go back.
