Oceanside Inn and Suites, Jekyll Island

We stayed from 7/2-7/5 here with an oceanfront loft room. The view was nice, even through a large white tent from the hotel blocks some views, and the other room’s upper floors in the middle of the hotel have nice views also. Now that’s all the nice things I can say. The rooms at this 1 ½ -2 star hotel are OLD, they look it, feel it, smell it. For the $200+ a night we spent I expected a whole lot more. The staff seam nice to us but my daughter and her boyfriend say not so much. My recommendation to the owners is to either A. remodel all the hotel rooms to bring it into 2012 or B. knock the whole structure down, (in stages of course got to keep making money) and build something with the look and feel of a real resort and something people will want to return to. As for my family we won’t be returning to this place, for the money we will rent a house for a week. Oh, I almost forgot, Jekyll Island is a very pretty place with not a lot of people, so you don’t have a crowded feel like other beach places. We ate at four different places; Latitude 31 was by far the best 5 stars, Fins on the beach, excellent service food good,(wife says get the fish taco), McCormick’s Grill, good food good service and last and I mean last The Sandbar & Grill, terrible service and bland tasting food. All and all we will return to the island for the friendly people and nice atmosphere, but plan ahead as to where to stay and eat.

I read all of the reviews before staying here and to be honest I was very apprehensive but chose to stay here anyway as we really wanted to travel with our dogs and they do not have a weight limit. Check-in was a breeze. The lady who checked us in was wonderful; for that matter everyone was. There was not a single employee during my three day stay that did not greet us when they saw us. We always stay in high end hotels when we travel and have not received the service we received while staying here. The rooms are dated and do need some attention BUT they were CLEAN and NO BUGS (one of my fears). The view was amazing and the grounds are very nice. It is dark at night but anyone who stays on the coast should understand the importance of this for the marine life, besides what better way to enjoy the stars while listening to the ocean? If you are looking for The Ritz then I wouldn't stay here but for the price, the view, and the service you cannot beat it. I would surely stay here again. Keep up the good work!!

There is very little that I can say about this location. It was smelly, unattractive, and in need of modernization. Maybe the dogs like it, but I would never bring my family here- dog or no dog. I don't recommend this hotel. It's depressing. Clearly, this hotel is not worth the money. I can't express how disappointed I am other than to say it's just not worth the money. It's dirty, dingy, and run-down.

We have stayed at the Oceanside twice - 2010 & 2011. Loved it both times. So did our dog Haggis. The small suite is more than adequate for the price, is clean, no bugs, a/c works great, good beds, great balcony on the ocean. Good food at the restaurant, exceptional wi fi, well maintained and friendly. We plan to go this fall, and again in the spring of 2012. If you whiners want a Ritz Carlton room, go find one and leave us alone on our great beach.

The room smell, the rugs smell, the bathroom seem dirty and smelled dirty.No place to plug the hair dryer, doors in the room that went no where. Not enough electric plugs for cell phone charger, computer etc. Here for a conference, and comfortable was not. Even with the group discount was not worth the money. I expected better. The staff was helpful and friendly. Would not return, lesson learned.

The staff was very nice and helpful. The room looked like the had done some upgrades to it. But for the money we spent there it should have a little nicer. We had a beautiful view of the ocean.

We visited for 4 day get away - although it was not necessarily luxurious, it was very adequate; staff was friendly and the room was spacious; it is a great place to take your dog, they even welcomed him at registration with dog biscuits ! Fun to visit with other dogs and owners. A good value as the rate was great for a room that had a great view, clean sheets, kitchen and table area. Really, I think some folks might be a little too picky ! Definitely recommend for a get away, especially with a pet. Took the dog to a local groomer for a bath on the way home and they were wonderful too !

Very bad, very fishy, worst customer NON-Service ever........!!!!!

Not that clean. Ants in the room. The bathroom has no place to plug in a hair dryer or curling iron, It has to be pluged in in the room and then the lighting is so bad you cannot see what you are doing. Toilet was cracked. Rust on wall below sink were water runs out. Sink did not hold water. No one suggested you should have skin so soft for the sand gnats which will eat you alive. There is such a problem with sand gnats you are better to never go back.

The room smelled like mold, we saw roaches in the room. The room was dirty. Very poor house keeping. The beach was nice but the water was to dirty to swim in. It was quite. The staff seemed very inexperienced. Hotel is old and dated. You can get a better rate by walking in, don't make a reservation. Would not go back.
