Charged extra room on my credit card
By Coby, 10/03/08
One of the worst customer service, specifically from their accounting team. They made a mistake on charging my credit card for an extra room, no voice mail has been returned yet and in few occasions when I talked to someone they did not have the authority to do anything and this simple issue after 40 days still has not been resolved.

Coulda been better
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/07
Location not great, just off the freeway. Decor not my favorite but having stayed at The Grande Colonial the night before, I was probably feeling spoiled. Got to check in early which was great. The room was ok - a bit dark. We had our own patio with a table & 2 chairs. Kinda felt like an apartment complex. Went to check email and business center was stuffy and neither computer worked. I stood in the doorway trying to wave somebody over and a few of the staff noticed me, and then pretended they hadn't. Another staff member walking by asked if everything was ok and I said no. It seemed he regretted having asked me. I showed him the computers weren't working and he stood there and said, "Well, I don't really know what do do," and waited maybe hoping I would abort mission and say nevermind? When I didn't budge he said he'd have to find an engineer and didn't know how long it would take. His initial response should've been not "Gee I don't know," but rather "Let me get this fixed right away." I told him I'd be in the restaurant and to grab me once it was working. He finally walked over and first apologized about the strange smell in there (they'd just had the carpet cleaned and it wasn't quite dry) and apologized for the inconvenience. Later, we were supposed to go to an event at which my husband was going to be honored and was told the shuttle could drive us anywhere within a 5 mile radius. Great! Our trip was only 4.4 miles. And as the clock ticked, the shuttle guy was on break. Rather than stare at us with a nonchalant expression, the staff should've offered to call a taxi. I made the suggestion and once they found their list of numbers, a phone call was placed. We had to sit in a stinky cab all dressed up but we did make it in time. The ATM was broken. Our screen door was coming off the track. The shower head dripped when on bath mode. One of the machines in the gym was broken. But all the others were working and had individual t.v.s attached so that was cool. The best part about the hotel was the food. They have a healthy section and we both ordered from it. The zuchinni quesadillas were excellent. And the price was right. Overall, not bad, and they weren't rude, but they could benefit from a lesson in customer service.

Horse Fans
By mavrick, 08/30/06
If you are a fan of the Horses, then this is the hotel to stay at when the ponies are in town. The hotel is right across the street from the Racetrack, and on the 7 furlong races, on TVG, you can see the hotel in the background (look for the tan roof). The hotel is pricey during the race season (200/night) but several of the owners & some out of town jockies stay there. This is a great spot for those who want to just relax and unwind. With the beach just a 1/2 mile away, it has mild temps year round.

Loved It!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/19/06
This hotel is an exemplary Hilton: great restaurant, beautiful rooms, excellent service and location. I would recommend it most definitely. The views of the Del Mar valley surrounding it are second to none and its proximity to the Racetrack enable easy access to horse racing and the fair or any other event held there. The staff is wonderful. I was locked out of my room and they not only repaired the doorlock but they also very nicely gave me a dinner for my trouble. Classy, elegant, I wish every Hilton were this good!

Great rooms, staff, and value
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/06
I brought my family of four here this past weekend. The room was clean, and nicely decorated. The staff is friendly. The pool is nice. The beach is only 1/2 mile away. Great restaurants nearby. I would bring my family here again. It was a great getaway. No problem getting downtown for the Padres' game. Hint: rooms list at $189 a night. I got the room for $80 a night on priceline. It's a good deal.

Not bad, great location
By ale, 05/05/04
I would stay here again. Although this property is not in the old town part of del mar nor does it have an ocean view, it is only a 1/2-1 mile away and it has a free shuttle, I believe. It is across the street from the track if you're there for the horses or the fair. There are some great restaurants across the street, excellent sea food! The service was lacking but probably due to the fact I was there the day after Christmas (short staffed, I'd bet). I'd stay here again.
