Thrums Private Hotel, Edinburgh

After reading all the reviews i think my money was worth every penny spent the room was nice clean and fresh ensuite was nice staff extremly freindly asked how we were spending the day and gave us directions into city centre.Would definitly go back and also recommend a freind.

We booked here for a short break and were pleasantly surprised after having read some of the other reviews. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, reception area was all refurbrished and very stylish, our room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was very nice. Breakfast was served in a very nice setting looking onto the garden and there was a good choice. We loved Edinburgh and the location is excellent for getting into the city centre - We walked to downtown in about 20 minutes or a bus ride took only 5 minutes. We would definately recommend this place and have already booked for our next visit.

how can this be called a hotel.Guest house yes.Damp and smelly room,windows didnt open. No access to fresh air,Remote didnt work,kettle kept falling apart.When we went for breakfast,no bacon for breakfast.When I asked owner why he didnt let people know he wouldnt serve bacon ,he said Menu on all sites shows this.I cant find any saying this.Friends of mine stayed closer into town and found better cheaper guest houses. avoid.

This place is great value for money. We had all the facilities which we expected in our room and the breakfast was very good which was inclusive - Unlike the larger hotels where we have had to pay up to �15.00 extra for the same type of breakfast. The setting is nice and the secure car park is a real bonus for being so close to the city centre. We will definately book here again when back in Edinburgh.

We stayed at the Thrums for 3 days during November and loved it. The friendly staff, clean rooms, free WiFi internet, and nice breakfast. For the price it proved to be excellent value for money.

We were booked into this place by the local tourist office for 2 nights under the impression that it was a reasonably classy small hotel. When we arrived we immediately noticed the reception area was grubby, cheap and outdated. The room was worse. It smelt musty and damp. Lampshades were missing. The Linen was faded and looked as if it had been in continuous service for decades. The make-shift tea and coffee area was dirty and unwashed - the sachets lay in a little pool of old tea and gunk. The elderly 70s TV didn't work - (do you remember those old ones were the station buttons click-out and the picture skews until you thump the top?). The "En-Suite" was dirty, the shower barley functioned and the soap dispenser was empty. Worst was the bed itself - it was completely knackered and on one side of the bed there was a huge dip - my girlfriend and I had to huddle to on side of the bed to avoid rolling into it. We brought home a takeaway that I began eat from the bedside cabinet - I dropped a little piece of lettuce between the cabinet and the bed. I reached down to pick it up and felt like puking when the lettuce reappeared complete with a ball of crud and human hair. Deeeeeeepressing. Next morning we complained and advised them that there was no way we would stay the second night. Instead of an apology they tried to charge us a deposit for the second night - and even had the cheek to suggest we were making it up!! At 70 pound a night in mid-October the place was way over charged. The next night our luck was reversed and for the same money a few streets away we stayed in an immaculate hotel with the best service I've ever experienced - the borough hotel I recommend you do the same.
