Renovations are making this hotel beautiful.
By Victoria, 2/4/09
I have lived in Gretna all of my life and stayed at the Tower Hotel (when it was open) several times. Everything back then was good. The nightly rates, the customer service, the convenience, and the location. Not only is this hotel across the expressway from a great shopping mall (Oakwood); but, it is also minutes from the French Quarter. The Tower Hotel renovations are coming along great; and, it truly is going to be a beautiful place to stay. For anyone who has concerns about the location let me tell you about "Gretna". Citizens are proud to be a part of Gretna. What used to be the Fisher housing complex is now very pretty homes. It is a very nice community. People are very friendly; and, everyone shows respect for their property and for others. We have a "Fantastic Police Force" in Gretna that I am very proud of and work diligently to keep our citizens and community safe. GRETNA is approximately 3 to 10 minutes from the "French Quarter" depending on whether or not there is traffic on the bridge. The hotel is situated right next to the on ramp to the Crescent City Connection. Once you cross the CCC and get off at Tchoupitolas exit or Camp street exit you are minutes from the French Quarter. Take the opportunity to reserve a room at the Tower Hotel when it opens. I'm sure you will not be sorry. I'm excited for the day when it opens. I know that you will be too!

I only stayed here 'cos I had noplace else to go
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/2/05
In 1996 we made a last minute decision to drive from California to New Orleans for New Years. As we got across the country we tried motel after motel - which were, of course, all fully booked. Finally we found this place which would let us in, and we soon found out why - filthy, unwashed, smelly, and in an awful location. The only thing to recommend it is its close proximity to the city of New Orleans just across the river. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT STAYING HERE UNLESS YOU'RE DESPERATE.

Be Careful
By Jerry S, 9/2/05
There is a housing project just a couple of blocks away. The hotel is situated between the project and the shopping center. Exercise extreme caution when staying here or visiting Oakwood Shopping center. Do not venture out at night. I have stayed here and I live in the New Orleans West Bank area. This is one of the worst crime areas on the West Bank.

I'd stay there again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/11/05
it was a great location for me, plus i got a king-sized bed in a smoking room, and the staff were friendly. the only real dislike was that the cafe in the lobby didn't have much selection and closed between 1-2 everyday, so you couldn't eat dinner there.

HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/8/05
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. We tried 3 rooms before we found a descent one. Two of the rooms did not have working air-cons. As I tried to open the door to the third door the door frame fell as well. A member of the staff in the next room came out along with a myterious order. I cannot confirm what the smell was, but it did not smell legal!

Absolutely the worst, unprepared
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/20/05
by all means, the most dirty, unprepared hotel I've ever been to, we booked 3 months in advance, and when we arrived, they didn't have a room for us, they tried to make us go somewhere else without any compensation, not even willing to pay for our 6 family groups taxi. they put us in a room on a floor that wasn't even suppose to have any occupancy, the toilet didn't work. it was the dirtiest room I've been in....ever. my outside cat has better living conditions then we were in that night. the on duty manager wouldn't even speak to us directly, she made the on duty service desk employee do the dirty work

THE WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED AT
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/4/05
There was mold in the room, both under the air conditioner and in the bathroom. There was, at first, NO water on Saturday morning, and then NO hot water for showers (don't even think of a bath to easy those aching feet and leg muscles from hours on Bourbon St, because the faucet for the tub didn't work). Then, the price of the room various as to, either, whoever happens to be at the desk at the time, or maybe whether they like your face or not. I booked two rooms at the same time, one for my husband and myself and one for our couple friends. Our friends checked out before us and paid 89, while we chked out a few hours later and paid 119. When I contacted the manager, I could NEVER get a return phone call. The only time I managed to talk to the "MOD/FOM" was when I called and he "happened" to actually be working. He promised to get back with me and never did and was never in when I tried to call back. We will NEVER, EVER stay here again. I will be coming to New Orleans at least twice a year from now on, and I will MOST DEFINITELY stay anywhere but here. A Motel 6 in the seedy part of town would have provided a better place to stay than this hotel. For $120 a night, I expected a nice room. I could have stayed else where at a cheaper rate and had, easily, as nice of a room, if not nicer. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. I PROMISE YOU! We were not the only unhappy customers that weekend. Every person walking out at check out time was as dissatisfied as we were. If this is the only place available, reschedule your trip. It, most definitely, is not worth the money.
