Nice Hotel for the Price

My husband and I take a weekend trip each year to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This year, we decided to check out the Watkins Glen, NY area. Most of the hotels in the Glen were a bit too high priced for us or, those that were more reasonable, were already fully booked for the weekend of our trip, August 27th. So we looked for a place in the Painted Post area and found the Corning Inn. At only $65/night for a King room, this place was a very good deal. It was certainly nothing fancy but was clean and had a decent free breakfast offering. Our room had a mini-fridge that definitely worked...our canned drinks had ice balls in them...a microwave, hair dryer, iron & board and a nice sized TV. For breakfast, there were muffins, danish, two cereals, bananas, coffee, tea and two fruit juices. It only took us about 25 minutes to drive up to Watkins Glen, just 10 minutes over to Corning and about 20 minutes to Horseheads. The town of Painted Post itself didn't have a whole lot of touristy attractions but was a nice, quaint & quiet town with a decent variety of restaurants and shopping. We would certainly stay at the Corning Inn again and recommend it to others wanting a cheaper alternative to the higher-priced Watkins Glen hotels.
