4star? avoid - the single rooms at all costs
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/1/10
The rest of the hotel is probably like the photos, but the place we were given by the company that booked and placed us in the single rooms of this 4* accomodation - and they should have been sued for misinformation. The single rooms had one single small 'towel' only in each of the two rooms we'd been booked into (I found out when I upgraded that the 'small towel' was a 'bathmat' in the rest of the hotel.)
There was no room to maneuver, the place was so tiny, and the furniture had chipped sticky edges and broken handles on drawer units. Outside of room 514/516 there was two very large 'vomit' looking stains on the carpet, and generally the carpets were very dirty in that section of the hotel. The windows had sweat marks where someone had pressed their nose, forehead and fingertips onto the window pane, and the cleaning services hadn't noticed that! The mattress cover was deep gray on the underside - and the grey (meant to be white) net curtains had not been washed for over a couple of years to get that much grime and dust on them. Touching them was sticky and dusty, and definitely not a pleasant experience.
I know this city has had its share of troubles, but to call those single rooms 4 star is beyond belief. When we upgraded, we were moved (via the store-room with cleaning fluids/buckets etc) to the 'other' part of the Hotel. We therefore got a lift that worked - the other section of the hotel had one lift broken, and one that the door didn't open easily - so you lost out if you couldn't open the door within a tenth of a second ! It went without you!
Female receptionist was very abrupt and unhelpful - other males were fine.
Coffee at breakfast tasted like it was brewed for a week, but at least the waiters were pleasant.
Location was probably good, in that you're close to shops, and 15 mins from downtown.
Wouldn't stay again. Felt too dirty. A feeling shared by other 'residents' that day, who moved out to another hotel.
