DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!

I want to start out by saying I have never left a review after a hotel stay, but feel I need to WARN other potential guests!!!! My son was playing in the baseball World Series this weekend in Rocky Mount. We chose to stay at the Days Inn and told another family on the team about the prices compared to the team hotel prices. They ended up booking with you all also. We travel about every other weekend from March-November with travel baseball and have to stay at a lot of hotels. We arrived at the hotel on Friday and the gentleman at the front desk was extremely nice and let us check in an hour early so we could get to the ball fields. When our friends arrived he placed them in a room right across the hall. I was impressed with the rooms for the price. A lot of the staff was not very friendly, but this did not bother me too much. Friday and Saturday were ok. The issue comes about on Sunday night. My friend and I went outside to smoke and we ended up staying outside after we were smoking to get some fresh air and talk. Robert "the security guard", which was extremely rude to several people during the stay, came up to us and stood there for about 5 minutes and listened to our conversation. He then told us he hated to interrupt our conversation, but if we were not smoking we could not be outside and had to go to our room. When my husband returned I told him what happened and he called the front desk and asked if we could go outside and was told yes. Later that evening we went out again with our husbands and were smoking. We ended up staying out there and talking. Robert then came up to us and told us that we could not be out there. We informed him that we had called the front desk and the lady said that we could. He said he did not work for Days Inn that he worked for the owner. He proceeded to go downstairs and brought the front desk attendant (Cathy) up to the balcony. She informed us that we had to go to our room, because the guys had a beer. We said that we did not know they could not have a beer outside, but if that was the issue we would throw them away. We never raised our voices and were trying to talk to them. She said that she was calling the police. She then went to the extent to tell us we were bad parents, because our 9 and 11 year old boys were in the room sleeping and we were outside smoking. However, this is why we were on the balcony, because we were right by the room. I politely tried to go over and talk to Robert and Cathy and they refused to talk to me. We went to our room and the next thing you know we have police at the door. We told the police what was going on and they were in shock that they were called on us. My husband asked how many complaints we had and Cathy said none. We were out there just talking about the semi final game the next day and who we were pitching. I asked Cathy in front of the police if we could at least go out one more time and smoke and we would go to bed. She then told us no that we were told to go to our room and could not come out. The cops were in complete disbelief over this. If she saw us out again then we would have to leave the hotel. My husband informed her that she could not lock guests in the room and not allow them to exit. I told her that I would go out with the cops and smoke and then go straight to bed. We ended up going out to smoke and went right to bed. However, I could not fall asleep that night, because I was so upset. I have never had police called on me and for my son to get upset was crazy. As a franchise, Days Inn really needs to take their name off this place. After this stay, I will never stay at another Days Inn in my life. I am planning on taking these complaints as high as I possibly can take them and I want people to know how Cathy and Robert treated us.
