Golden Sands Motel, Michigan City

First time here and I hated the service and how the clerk tried to accuse me and my family of not paying for the rooms even though he gave us reciepts. The room we're very disgusting and kind os creepy. I was not comfortable at all and stayed up all night because it was not at all stomache worthy. I will never recommends this place and will never come back. Save your money and your time.

For $40/night close to Indiana Dunes in the summer, you can't expect much and this motel lives up to that. It's very old and very well used and abuse. The info on the motel says it was renovated in 2006, but the room we were in clearly was not. The pictures they provide look considerably better than real life. It was run down, shabby, beat up and fairly dirty and dingy. It was lacking in amenities that you would probably expect in most motels. No little shampoo bottles, no tissues, no clock of any kind, no ice machine. The towels were small and thin and there was only one per person. The shower was so small you could barely move around in it. The room smelled kind of nasty, so we hung an air freshener in front of the air conditioner. However, the towels and sheets were clean, and we were given more towels when we asked for them. We didn't find any creepy crawlers, which would have been a deal breaker for me. The air conditioner worked, the bed was fairly comfortable, there was a small fridge and a microwave in the room and there seemed to be enough hot water. Of course, we were one of only 3-4 rooms rented all weekend, so if they were full, the hot water situation might have been different. If you're expecting a nice place to stay, don't stay here. Stay here if you just want a cheap place to stay and don't expect much. I have seen worse and spent more as well as I have seen better and spent about the same. I wouldn't pay more than $40/night for this place in the summer (peak season) and I would say it's not worth more than $20/night in the off season.

courteous service, excellent room, very clean nice comfortable bed ,spacious room, indiviual air, close casinos infact i couldnt find a room in blue chip where we usually stay and didnt find a room and end up staying here and glad i stayed here .I would highly recomend and will stay here in future rather than any other hotel in michigan city.

Me and my boyfriend got a motel here hoping it would be a comfortable quiet motel but it was anything but such. The first room that we were given the air conditioner did not work so the owner switched our room. The second room although the air worked was anything but ice cold, later when my boyfriend tried to use the restroom we found that the toilet was clogged and would not flush so once again we had to ask the owner for a plunger to unclog the toilet. Then when i was sitting on the bed watching tv the headboard of the bed fell on my back and left me with a bruise on my back. Then as we were getting ready to go to bed I saw a bug crawl accross the bed so we had to go out and buy bug spray and we sprayed the whole motel room down but still were not certain if we wanted to stay there and stick it out or leave and be out the 61 dollars I had spent on the motel. We eventually decided to stay but we kept getting woke up all night by noises outside the worst being the screaching of a cat which was super creepy. I would NOT reccommed that anyone stay at this motel and I will NEVER be back.

that cluster of bad reviews smacks of conspiracy... we found the room quite clean and decent, the owner very helpful and willing to please. Of course, it is NOT a Holiday Inn, nor does it cost that much. We needed a place to sleep while visiting in Long Beach, and we were quite comfortable there. You can't beat the location. We will stay there AGAIN. I made my reservation a month ahead, yet the owner DID NOT run my credit card until I had seen the room and was satisfied with it.

We have stayed at this hotel several occasions. Courteous service and clean rooms at reasonable price. Near by dunes, restaurants and casino makes this motel worth your stay.

the place was a hell hole don`t come here save yourtime and money

The rooms smelled and were gross. the bathroom was not clean at all the shower head was gone and all it was just a pipe sticking out. The owner refused to give us our money back.

The room was disgusting. the door didnt lock,the bathroom floor was flooded with water and urine and we hadnt even used it yet! The clerk at the the desk was rude and refused to return our money. I will be turning them into the better business bureau. Dont believe anything you read about how nice this place is. Its a hell hole!
