Clarion Inn at Historic Strasburg, Strasburg

Compared to other hotels nearby, the location was good (only if visiting the railroad...Strasburg is gaudy in its Amish exploitation). I found the staff very friendly. The hotel itself could use a little care, but really is in minor details (peeling wallpaper, noisey a/c). The pool is small (but nice) and at the time, could have used a cleaning. The morning breakfast was good but a bit crowded (and the toasters took forever). The crowding lended to somewhat rude behavior by a few guests. Probably a bit pricey for what you get, but better than most prices in the area and not sitting on the crowded main road in Strasburg. The whole area is a bit over-done in my opinion on the whole amish experience thing and prices are a bit inflated on everything. Venture out a bit to find quiet country-side and mom and pop shopping. Stay away from shopping villages, dutch/amish wonderlands. Visit road-side veggie stands and hit the back roads. Oh, and don't visit the nearby walmart on 30 west if you need anything..is a bit seedy. In fact, stay east on 30 for a better visit. The nearby railroad is nice, but stick with coach fares. The upgrades arent really worth it. If you are a railroad enthusiest, the museum is interesting, but not really interactive enough for small kids. Get tix at hotel...is much cheaper.

At 4 a.m. the large plate glass mirror fell off the wall in the bathroom smashing into thousands of pieces. The attention to our situation and understanding of our trauma was completely lacking. Excusing one nights charge was inadequate compensation for our terrifying experience. It ruined our vacation. The mirror fell because it was improperly installed. We could have been killed!

We too were in an outbuilding like a Lodge, each room opening to the outdoors and we found live wasps in our room. It was a very wet evening in May 2008 when we arrived and my perception of the place may have been a little clouded!! However we were unable to get a meal there as the dining room was being refurbished and was closed. I also had to go over to the main building in heavy rain to pick up extra pillows, so it was not a place I would hurry back to, and not only because I live in New Zealand.

It was the most Beautiful farewell reception to a wonderful person. They handled everything. The Ballroom was elegant, the food delicious, there service was excellent. I was so impressed, so pleased. Thank You.

Messed up my reservation. Gave us a different room- I booked king and got queen. No remote control for the tv. Dirty bathroom. Beautiful location. The one and only staff member I saw was nice. Restaurant staff very friendly. Great food.

we stayed at the historic strasburg inn in april and the service was terrible. they could not find our reservation, the spa was closed the restaurant was closed and their phone number seemed to be out of order to even get a hold of anyone to confirm our reservation. it would of been nice if they told us everything was closed because they were just sold to new company but noone did. also the room was dark and dingy, they need new sheets ours had a stain on the comforter. we will never stay here again it was very expensive for the service and attention that was given.

After reading other reviews we were prepared for problems at the front desk. Much to our surprise, the staff were all congenial and willing to please. The first problem came when my friend (who is in a wheelchair) had a hard time getting into a room or being able to use the bathroom in the room because of confined space. After looking at 4 rooms (most without ramps)one worked with taking the door off of the bathroom. It did not have any handrails. She could not even access the bathtub. She took the room anyway and made do. When we called ahead of time someone had told us they were handicapped accessable. Not true to any great imagination. The second problem was that there was mold in the bathroom around the bathtub as well as in the meeting rooms. The hot tub is a joke and is dirty. The bedrooms are furnished with beat up 50's style furniture, however the beds were very nice and clean. There is poor air circulation in the room, which is probably why the mold issues. The HVAC unit did not throw much air. There is no fan in the bathroom and little room to move around. The value for the price is not good. Don't pay over $60 a night. It does not command a higher price. There are nicer hotels for cheeper that have more amenities and luxury. This place would be ok for a bunch of college students on a party. The location is it's biggest asset. The food was adequate, nothing special. Don't take your wife there for a romantic weekend.....not a good idea. On a good note, it is under new management, hopefully they will be able to turn this place around before it is in total shambles. It will be a big job.

Truly a nightmare. Our reservations were botched prior to arrival. Upon finally checking in, my 2 year old discovered something rather unsanitary beneath the bed...and housekeepking failed to find it througout our three night stay. The plumbing was atrocious. The shower repeatedly went from scalding hot to ice cold without warning. I was forced to give my child a shower by filling a plastic cup from the sink. I spoke to maintenance but was informed that "the building is 100 years old" and that we should "just step back" when the water temperature changed. It was not a good experience with a young child.

We got the Family Suite for my family with two small children and were very happy with it. I did notice that the price of the room seemed to change from day to day and seemed to depend on the day of the week you first checked in more then the number of days that you were there. We found the breakfast to be very good and the waitress two of our three days there was just fantastic! However, on our third morning another lady was there and I think we must have turned invisible. One other negative was that it was the same breakfast every day and by the third day it was boring. The shower in our room needed to be replaced or refitted and the fan was very loud. The billard room was also very nice. We stayed off season (April 2007) and the place was not very busy and we were very happy with our stay and would do it again!

The location is great and the surroundings are gorgeous, especially in the Fall. I also found the staff to be helpful & friendly. However, the front desk & housekeeping seem very understaffed. Despite making my reservation 4 weeks in advance, when I arrived at 6pm on a weekday it took 45 minutes to check-in. When I finally got to my room, it was poorly cleaned and had a terrible odor. The carpets & flooring are badly worn and in need of replacing or at least a heavy cleaning. It took another 40 minutes but I was able to get my room changed and the second room was a little better although still with soiled carpets and worn floors/fixtures in the bathroom. In contrast, the Bistro restaurant is fantastic! All five meals I had there during my stay were excellent and well-prepared. I hope the Netherlands Inn owners decide to do some updating of the guestrooms and hire more staff. It would be a shame to see the place continue to deteriorate.
