We will never return
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/6/11
We thought we were getting an ocean view! What we got was a view of the pool with the ocean in the far distance. Workers began making noise around 3 am with the echo of the noise up to the room. The bay was so full of algae snorkeling was impossible. What a disappointment. We actually went to a public beach to finish our vacation. The only wireless access was in the lobby and near the pool. The room was very small compared to our stay at the Marriott waiohai on Kauai. The only great thing was our young waiter aged 21 from the Phillipines. We experienced the dolphins at the Hilton and so wished we had booked there! A lovely clear, clean snorkeling experience was found at the Hilton and the mauna kea.

Paradise; Fantastic experience!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/10/09
My family of 5 loved this resort and we had a wonderful time! The beach was great; calm, clear waters, especially in the morning. If you want to see sea turtles, go left and walk alongside the ocean, in the evening, and you will probably see them, sometimes in a group of 5 of more. Just don't touch them, (it's not allowed.) Breakfast was excellent, lots of fabulous food to choose from, you are making a big mistake if you miss this out! Just beware of the sparrows, (although I don't mind them and think they're just really cute) because they might try to hop onto your plate to take a bit of food. Pools are great too, there is a very shallow one for small children, with sand at the bottom instead of tiles. There is also a slide for children. There are two other beaches nearby, Kauna and Hapuna, on the property of 2 other hotels (those hotels were closed when we went there,) and they are absolutely gorgeous. White sand, as soft as flour, great snorkeling, and completely clear, bright blue waters. Just watch out, there are big waves, not too big, but maybe too big for small children. The hotel was clean, very nice, and yes, I would recommend this hotel to a friend. It was worth the time and money, and overall, a fantastic experience.

Relax at the Marriott
By Diane A, 4/16/09
After the craziness of Aloha Airlines/ATA Airlines shutting down - getting here was a challenge...but so worth it! You walk into the lobby and feel the balmy breeze through their open lanai. Go downstairs to the bar or the pool and have a pina colada - there's nothing better to unwind. I liked the 3 pools (waterslide, kids' pool and infinity pool), easy access to beach at A-Bay, plus all the shopping and restaurants right across the street and down the road. The rooms are updated with clean, contemporary design. Having a refrigerator in the rooms was helpful as well. Having breakfast on our little balcony with an ocean view was great. Service was excellent. I went over the Hilton and it was way too crazy for me - too many people. The Marriott is just what the doctor ordered for some R&R.

Excellent Location
By CMB, 4/11/09
The rooms are very small, if you are with a family, you may want to upgrade to a suite, otherwise, for two it's a little cramped, but managable. It appears that the rooms have been renovatated and the decor is a clean look. The hotel has beach access and they provide you with chairs out on the beach, great place for the sunset. Only 1 restaurant, but the location is in walking distance to at least 4 others. You can also take the free shuttle to the Hilton which is down the street, they have approx. 5 over priced restaurants. The pool area is nice, excellent customer service. We had 2 charges that were not ours when we checked out, no questions asked and automatically took it off of our bill. The patio on the second floor would be a great place to view the sunset, but the couches up there are absolutely filthy. I recommend sticking with the beach for sunset.

Fabulous Location and Service
By teachertoo, 1/5/09
My family of 4 loved this hotel for several reasons: service was second to none, the friendly staff went above and beyond whenever we needed advice, service, or help. We loved the location of the beach, shopping, and the pools were fantastic. We had a bottom floor room which made it easy to use our lenai as another entrance and an extension of the room. The cleaning staff was friendly and quick when we needed to stay close to the room. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this hotel again, in fact it would be my first choice. We also attended the Luau and had great service and entertainment. Our Christmas holiday was extra special do to this great resort! Thanks so much for a great stay and vacation!!

Loved It!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/9/08
Things we loved: The snorkeling was free since we were staying at the resort. The pools were clean, and the view was amazing! I highly recommend watching the sunset from the jacuzzi!!! The staff were friendly. Our room was always clean. Things we didn't love: The poolside bar service...not so great.

Great Location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/22/08
The property is in excellent shape. The beach is very calm and great for snorkeling. The coral is the best I have ever seen but the fish could be more numerous. I saw many turtles on the beach and the ease to procure the gear is great. Many activities for families and couples and shopping and restaurants are nearby. We found the food to be substandard compared with other Marriot properties. No construction is happening here. The lobby is vast and open to the sea.

great family vacation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/29/07
My husband and I took our 5 year old daughter there for the weekend as well as hosted friends in a separate room in the same wing. We were in room 5295/96 which had two beds and a separate sitting room, two baths and two mini fridges. The ocean view was spectacular for both the sunsets and surprisingly beautiful sunrises. Our guests were in an ocean view room on the 3rd floor. The elevator and ice machine is quite a walk from the room...use the stairwell to get to the pool. The hotel staff does a wonderful job of keeping the rooms and common areas clean. The grounds are beautiful. The renovations seem to be complete. The three pools and jacuzzis were great...my daughter loved the waterslide. The food was good and the pricing typical of a resort. I would recommend any of the pasta dishes, kalua pork sandwich, spinach salad, and the ribs. We did have dinner one night at Merrimans at Kings Shops across the street and felt the hotel's food was better. You will not pay any less eating at the resort...unless you like eating at Subway. The only problem we had was trying to get anything to eat or drink at the pool area. Whenever we wanted cocktails we had to walk from the farthest end of the pool (kid friendly section) all the way to Clipper Lounge to order and carry it back. (Another guest thought I was a server and tried to order from me!) They need more staff in that area. Otherwise the whole experience of this newly renovated resort has been been outstanding. We are looking forward to returning soon. Our daughter even voted this resort more fun than the Mariott Ihilani on Oahu.

Loved it!
By Jimmy, 5/31/07
We really enjoyed our 5 night stay at the resort. The staff was very friendly and responded to any of our needs or problems very quickly. We had the morning buffet included in our package and it was fabulous. The construction was almost done and the place looks great. Our rooms were very nice. The shops and restuarants across the street were very convenient. We liked that it was not too far from Kona or the north end of the island where we went horseback riding. The snorkeling was better there than at Black Rock in Maui. It was by far the best place we stayed at on our 2 week trip which also included Honolulu and Maui. We definitely want to come back and stay a little longer the next time.
