I seek-out bed & breakfasts when I travel and have experienced many. This one is just not cared-for. It is dirty, dusty and shabby; a good bed & breakfast is not this. From the shabby towels to the dusty room this place is neglected. The breakfast was an unateable waffel which I passed-on and ate elsewhere. There seemed to be no owner on site. In checkout I finally found someone who took twenty minutes to figure-out a charge receipt. The place has a nice location and is an attractive stucture but sadly just needs someone to care about it. I would not stay here again or recommend it.
Don't be put off by the previous review. My wife and I spent a night in the Pineapple room in February. We arrived early enough to get an impromptu tour of all the rooms. Yes, the Wine Cellar was cold and drafty, but what do you expect - it's a CELLAR in the middle of winter...
We spent the evening in the parlor looking through old books and photo albums. The surrounding area is very quiet and we slept great. The next morning the owner and his bluegrass band entertained us with old mountain songs and country tunes during breakfast.
Speaking of breakfast, that's the one thing that could have been better. The pancakes and orange juice were good, but I was hoping for something a little more substantial; like maybe some eggs and sausage. All in all though, it was a great experience and we would definately stay there again.
There appears to be an absentee owner and it shows. This place is dusty and cobbwebby and is in need of a good cleaning. The room I booked was not available upon arrival and I stayed in their most expensive room - the wine cellar which was an uncomfortably cold and drafty place in the basement with an inadequate space heater. The decor is salvation army and the breakfast a cold waffle. Forget this place; go elsewhere.
Very unfriendly, not a warm feeling at all. Did not make us feel like we wanted to come back and we felt like we would have gotten better service at a big name hotel. Old ratty towels, ripped shower curtain, fire trap in wine cellar with poor electrical wiring. NO outside locks on doors. Not worth $200.00 per night.
