Don't Come Here
By colleen, 09/02/09
The pictures on the site are misleading. The bathroom was old and not great. Not to mention that you only got ONE normal sized towel!!You kinda felt like you wanted to wash your hands after touching the bed and table. The Tv sucked. The breakfast was ok. The pool looks gross, we did not get in it. Not to mention that the hotel DOES NOT provide pool towels!!! I would not bring a family here. Shady people were at the hotel at the time we were there. Shady as in making out in the pool, loud music, ect.. I would not suggest this place to anyone. Use the extra twenty bucks and go somewhere thats ALOT nicer!!!

DON'T STAY HERE!
By , 07/15/09
NOTHING about his hotel is as advertised, and it is a dump! 1. "In Mission Valley". Not even close. It's located on El Cajon Blvd. and Texas St. If you are not familiar with San Diego, this intersection is not Crack Central, but it is certainly Crack West. Definitely not a safe neighborhood for an evening stroll--unless you are looking for drugs or a hooker of either sex. 2. "Remodeled". Maybe your room will be, but ours certainly wasn't, nor was any one we talked to in a "remodeled" room. The carpets are worn and dirty, furniture clunky, takes up a lot of space, and was chipped, gouged, and burned. There was no fan in the bathroom, which explains the MOLD on the ceiling. Our toilet was clogged the first time it was flushed, and again later the same night. Maid service seemed to consist of making the bed and rinsing, not cleaning, the tub and toilet. 3. "Heated Pool". Not. Also, there are no steps into the pool. If you can't climb up and down the small metal ladders at each corner of the pool, you won't be using the pool anyway. 4. "Spa". Well, true, there is a spa, but all the jets are capped. In addition, the hotel is open on the weekends to the local college students. For a small fee they can use the facilities, and they do, en masse. As a result, every weekend is like a noisy, raucous frat party. They take up every available chair and lounge in the pool area, throw beach balls, roughhouse in the pool, and overall prevent any type of relaxation or enjoyment of the limited facilities. Stay somewhere else! Motel 6 would be a better experience.

A DUMP and the pool isn't heated
By Bob, 04/28/09
Ventana Hotels Fax 480 563 3958 E mail info@ventanahotels.com Last Sat nite (Apr 25), we stayed at the Lafayette in San Diego. When I made reservations, I asked for a quiet room. I was originally assigned a 1st floor room right on the corner of 2 busy streets. The only other room available was a handicap room, 155, located just off the lobby. They said it would be quiet. When we got back to the hotel there were tons of drunks having a party in the lobby, 30 feet from our room, and right in front of the front desk. At midnight I had it, called the front desk, and they said they'd say something. It just got louder. Screaming continued for another hour, with doors slamming all night. If you want a party hotel, fine. Just state what your mission is. We checked in to have a room to sleep in, and we didn't get it. I want a refund of the $75 fee. The room was a total waste, and I couldn't change hotels at midnight. By the way, the room hasn't been updated in 30 years. Spend some $, or sell to someone who will. Pretty Lame
By Anton, 04/07/09
Photographer did a great job capturing the best angles of this old place. My girlfriend and I thought we were super cool when we found out they had upgraded us to a Penthouse suite for free. Little did we know the elevator was broken and we had to walk up 4 flight if stairs. The room was pretty cool, but looked like it was last updated in the 70's. The bed was comfy, but the pillows were nearly a foot thick, meaning we couldn't even use them. We stayed spring break weekend, so there were a lot of younger people there partying with loud music. The windows were paper thin. I must have woken up no less than 5 times through out the night from weird ventilation noises. The pool looked super nice, but unless you can stand the noise, I don't recommend staying here.

Worst Ever
By Zenovia, 02/10/09
This hotel is the worst I have been in. The rooms look like a crack house. The only part of the hotel that was nice was the main lobby. It is not a great place to stay at all. The plugs do not work. I could hear someone snoring in the next room. The air did not work. The winddows could not be opened. The toilet looked like one from an elementary school. It was HORRIBLE

NOT WORTH IT
By Babygirl, 10/05/08
spend the extra cash and go somewhere else. i booked a room for 2 nights here because it was a last minute trip. from the website and pictures it looks like a nice hotel! however, it is in the GHETTO! and the room i got was straight outta 1983... it was filfthy.. the bathroom didn't even have a regular toilet. it was like one of those toilets that u see in a public restroom. there are gates everywhere.. i didn not feel safe walking around. i will say that the pool area is nice, but i dont think it was very clean

Score ZERO
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/07/08
They shouldn't use "hotel" to their name anymore, this is an old "Motel" with pool and Jacuzzi. My first vacation to San Diego turned a BAD MEMORY because of this motel. First of all, its OLD and water pressure is not stable. Shower becomes too HOT and too COLD. Everytime water temp changes, you have to put yourself aside to escape from running water, otherwise you're going to get burned or heart attack. Also stupid curtain! Air conditioner on the wall wasn't working and they had small air conditioner installed to window, BUT if you closed curtain at night you can't use air conditioner anymore. you have to sleep with suffocated air or keep curtain all opened all night. Bed linens had yellow stains, I don't even know if all linens were changed from previous customer. Trying to cut down the cost for laundry?? This motel staff/owner need education for Infection control. Parking in a basement very small, and water (from air conditioner?) was leaking from ceiling like waterfall. it makes your car with all white patches and dirty stains. Who wants to drive dirty car during vacation ? Guys/lady at front desk are not well trained for good manner or good service. They don't care what a good service is anyhow, this is a cheap old motel. Are you looking for cheap hotel? you'd better stay at Motel 6 or 8 whatever.. I believe they have better/clean room. If you don't wanna ruin your vacation, put a little bit more amount of money to your budget. Believe me! you won't regret !

NOT A HOTEL FOR FAMILIES
By Jennifer, 08/11/08
The rooms are outdated and dirty with stains on the carpets and mildew in the bathroom. The pool area is beautiful but it is a public pool. As long as one runs a bar tab, anyone can swim at their pool. Every afternoon there was Spring Break at the pool: young, loud drunk people. The people (over)paying to stay at the hotel could not sit by the pool since all of the lounge chairs were taken by the locals. This would be a fun hotel if you're single but I was not comfortable with our daughter in the water while people were drinking heavily and making-out in the pool. We won't be back.

good hotel for the price
By Isobel, 07/25/08
Everyone's kvetching about this hotel but I really love it. The food at the Red Fox is great, the pool/hot tub is nice and the rooms are clean, shabby, but clean. It's centrally located, minutes to both chain stores, the parks and zoos and downtown. There's a bunch of stuff in the area, the Russian restaurant across the street is kick ass. It's an old hollywood hotel, so there's a lot of history. The plaques on the walls talk about it all, very informative. Anyone else love that the Janet Leigh room is right next to the Anthony Perkins room? I do. Sure, it could use a renovation, but it's a budget hotel with a pool, microwaves, fridges, irons AND hairdryers in the room, secured parking and free wifi. That's a GREAT deal! I've stayed here many times and I've never had a room that was dirty or smelled bad. There is a difference between old and unclean. I've never had a bad experience here. Though the staff didn't jump for joy upon seeing me they were polite and helpful. Oh, and OF COURSE the parking garage stinks. It's where they keep the cars and trash. Duh it's going to stink. You're not sleeping there are you? It shouldn't matter.
