Deer Haven Inn, Pacific Grove

This is the worst place I have stayed in since I got a real job (about 40 years). The furniture looked like it came from Goodwill about ten years ago! The couch had holes on the arm and in the cushions, the bed was hard, the pillows were flat and hard. The whole place needs a complete remodel. The TV was an old style 21 inch in the livingroom. We booked three nights and only stayed one!

We love this place. We've been coming here for about two years now. It's wonderful. Dog friendly, you get breakfast in the morning ... a perfect place for a family with dogs, like us. And, since we've had our son (who's 13 months), we've been twice! The staff is friendly and they often have really great deals (like 50% off) if you sign up for their emails. We're headed there this weekend! Yay!

We stayed at this hotel due to the fact it was walking distance to the beach. A nice 10 minute walk. By talking to the nice front desk lady she recommended a nice fish restaurant walking distance too!!!:) The rooms were nice and comfy. We had a suite with a queen in a separate bedroom, kitchenette, living room and dining room.They had a really nice and filling continental breakfast. Pastries, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal, Seattle's Best Coffee, and Starbucks Hot Cocoa. They also had a nice selection of teas and juices. I will definitely be back.

If you want to sleep in, this is not the place for you! We stayed in the honeymoon suite and at 8 am the pounding footsteps began and went on for hours! It seemed at times it was on purpose. The cleaning staff would run up the stairs and literally stomp across the walkway which was right above our room. Also, the walls are paper thin, making everything going on next door and outside audible (voices, plumbing, etc). We were also very unhappy with the comfort of the bed. The bed was very hard and had cheap, flat pillows. Also, the fireplace was a heater and made the room too hot! The jucuzzi tub was nice. However there is no fan in the restroom which made the whole room feel like a sauna. In the evening, we went out to enjoy the outside jucuzzi, and it would not come on! We notified the staff, waited, and finally went back to our room. The only nice thing about this place is the location. However, there are plenty of other hotels around the area. We will definetly look for another place to stay.

only thing this place has going for it is the location. anywhere else and the rooms would be 39.99 a night. thin walls and floors - noise from room above kept us awake all night. staff barely helpful. not enough parking - we went out to dinner and town and came back to zero available parking spaces. other parties also seen complaining at front desk. gas fireplace - yes. fridge - no. microwave - no. party of four and beds for four but only towels for two. beds were old and mushy. as for the name? - the deer may find the place a haven, but we found it barren. would not recommend- especially if travelling with small children.

This suite was perfect for us as we have two small children with early bed times. It was VERY spacious and was all nicely remodeled. The mattress was a little hard, but I think it was "standard hotel issue". The suite had a full kitchen, but it was not very well stocked with dishes. We didn't need them though as we only stayed for two nights. The continental breakfast had pastries, cereal, yogurt and fruit. The staff was very friendly and helpful whenever we needed something. We were able to get an excellent internet rate through their website which was comparable to a nice hotel room. It also was minutes away from the aquarium, downtown and Asilomar Beach.

The Deer Haven is within easy walking distance of Asilomar Beach. It's situated in a residential neighborhood, much quieter than the places in Monterey and still very close to the attractions. You'll enjoy walking down through the State Park, watch out for the deer. Its an updated 50s motel, nice landscaping and clean enough, there are still a few things that could use a little work.

I feel I really got a treat. The room was nice, well equiped and confortable. The fireplace was real nice and easy to use. I liked the location and the price was very reasonable. There was a family of racoons at the coke machine at night so I only went in the afternoon. This is a real nice, cozy and friendly place to stay. I will go back again.

We had prepared for a nice 4th of July week-end in Montery my wife and I and our 2 yound boys. We had reserved through the telephone a room with 2 queen size beds. One for us and one for our kids. When we arrived, the receptionist immediately told us they had upgraded us. I thought "wow that's nice!....I should have known". We proceeded to our little nest in the pines. We immediately realize that there was just one queen size bed and a "roll-out" bed. The worse was that there was only one roll-out bed! I made sure they knew we had 2 kids when I reserved. They had even given me a confirmation number. As I returned to the office fairly upset about the situation. The receptionist told us there were no other rooms available! I then asked for the name of her manager. The receptionist told me right out that she did not know his last name! This was too much! I do not recommend staying at this place. We were very upset that there were no efforts made to accomodate us at all! On top of it we were lied to!!! UNBELIEVABLE!

We have been coming to this hotel for many years now and are satisfied with every visit. Most people aren't going to take the time to write a review unless they are upset, and as with every business mistakes will happen. You can't stay here expecting it to be a five star hotel becuase it isn't and you definately aren't paying for it. For those that do want something closer to luxory, just pay a little extra for a remodeled suit (they are well worth it). Can sometimes get better rates reserving directly through the hotel. The service is great and are always willing to go the extra mile to make your stay more pleasurable.
