Northern Queen Inn, Nevada City

My wife, son, and I stayed in a cabin at the Northern Queen last year on our way to Lake Tahoe and enjoyed it so much that we made it our destination this year. Our 8-year-old son loved the foldout bed because he could wake up early and watch TV without disturbing us. We were able to save some money on dining by cooking in the cabin's kitchen (microwave and stovetop) and though we didn't intend for them too, they washed our dishes for us. There are lots of interesting sights in the area, and shoping and dining are available a short drive away. I wouldn't consider there to be much within walking distance except for a gas station with a pretty good convenience store. Last year there was snow right outside our cabin; this year we reached fun snow about 20 minutes north on highway 20. The Northern Queen's restaurant, Trolley Junction Cafe, had very good food and a beautiful view, but very slow service.

We had a very difficult time here. First, our first night there, around 3:30 a..m., we had an intruder. They had their own key! The young man assisting us that evening was very helpful, however, the next morning, I requested to see the manager who was not there but her very unhelpful assistant was there. She spoke to me from upstairs, and just did not seem very concerned. I had my two year old some w/ me, the thought of an intruder in the room w/ a baby present is alarming she just really did not care. The gentleman chaning the lock mentioned he has done this several time for this reason. They are aware of the problem and really are not taking care of the problem. I will never stay there again.

We stayed in cabin; perfect. Didn't have time to explore area so we will be going back in June or July and then again for the snow with our grandchildren in January. Great place. Perfect.

The housekeepers were very friendly and the front desk girls were courteous and funny ladies. I strongly recommend coming to this hotel for a future vacation of your own.
