The Only Hotel in Town
What did I like about this place? That it was there at all, because it really is the only motel in town. Actually, it is quite convenient as you can walk to the business area just down the street to eat or shop.
I visited in the summer of 2007 on my way to BC. Having never driven in, I had this idea that it was going to take me a really long time to get into Canada (they didn't even look at my passport) and didn't want to risk a drive into the night since the towns in that part of BC aren't particularly close to the border. So, I saw that this place at least had a web site, liked the cheap rate, so I called to reserve it.
When I arrived, the owner answered the bell having been pulled out of his chair watching TV. The rest of the family was outside trying to get a dirtbike to work. Despite it appearing that I was to be their only guest that night, the reservation had been lost. The check-in process took awhile, but I was thrust into conversation by the owner, who seemed like a nice guy.
The room was dark, dingy and had no grounded outlets (I had to go buy an adapter down the street). The mattress on the bed had definitely passed its prime and the bathroom looked like it hadn't had a good cleaning in a couple of years. It was the kind of motel room that, as soon as you get inside, you strip the bedspread and sanitize the TV remote.
It was fairly quiet that night and check-out was easy (I just left the key in the room because no one else was awake at 8am).
The drive into Canada, of course, took all of a minute, so I ended up in Kelowna way too early. If I went back up there, I'd probably opt to stay in Okanogan instead.
