The Whaler, Newport

I was a little worried about staying in a Motel but went with the latest reviews and took the risk, this place was pretty amazing for the price. The view we had on the 3rd floor was "excellent", we slept with the window open and a fresh ocean breeze. The sliding patio balcony, was nice. Wasn't fancy but clean and the service was great. We took our puppy and the rooms do NOT smell like pets had been there before, staff was great and very accomadating. We took our kids who loved it but realize they need there own room next time, the beds were ok not my temperpetic at home but Ok. Good continental breakfast to get you going. Hint-take some snacks for late night munchies and maybe sandwich meat for the kids at lunch, they have a small refrig. Overall it was not really a motel, I wish they would take that name off but that's Ok, my husband and kids really enjoyed this place and will be back again. :)

Stayed at the Whaler for 3 days. It was a nice, quaint hotel, offering a good continental breakfast in the morning. They have a small pool and exercise facility. You are right near the beautiful beach, just walk across the street. I would stay again if returning to the area. It was also nice because many people brought their dogs to the area and the hotel allows them. There are a good selection of restaurants in the nearby vicinity. This is a great area and you will enjoy your stay. Do keep in mind it is 3 stories and there are no elevators.

I took my husband to Newport when we were dating and we stayted at the Whaler. I've always liked the location, the beaches are great and it's barely a block away. The people at the front desk are always nice and answer questions - definitely the best I've found for the price!

Our first visit we did not have a place to stay and another hotel that was booked called The Whaler for us and held a room for us, when we got their the only room they had left was a smoking room, but they let us take our dog. It was a nice quiet room with a great view and great access to the beach. This time the Whaler was our first call for reservations and we got an even better room! We are so excited and can not wait.

Of the hotels along the water in Newport, the Whaler stands alone at the end of the row. The result is a more isolated quiet stay. The rooms are constructed with the ocean in mind. The front facing windows provide a wonderful view of the ocean, and open securely to let in the clean salt air. There is even a transom window over the door at the opposite end of the room to allow the refreshing sea air to pass through your room. The indoor pool and spa are very welcome accommodation after a long days drive along the coast. Overall, this is a little hidden gem of a hotel without all the overblown glamour and glitz. If you are looking for peace and quiet, it is the perfect place. To access the beach, walk directly across the street, and down the path. It is even lighted at night should you have the urge for a midnight strool along the beach.

We want to go back again, but it is difficult for my husband to climb the stairs.
