Big Bear Motel, Cody

This was a good value. The staff was friendly. We stayed in one of the new rooms. It was excellent. Even though you're just off the road (like most motels in town) it was quiet. The AAA rate made it even a better value. I guess that the thing that I liked the best was the personal attention and friendly owner at the desk. He looked a little rough, but was really a great guy with some good suggestions for places to eat.

Well there is not much to like about this place except the very nice and big pool. First the room stay away from 135 it sucks. AC above the bed which is bolted to the wall, so the AC vibrates down the wall keeping you awake at night. Secondly the AC blew only hot air and when we were there we were told this room was only 3 weeks old. Lie!!!! The room was at least 50 years old, some remodeling had been done inside but not enough for a fee of 119.00's. Remember no AC in the dead of summer, then add to that that there is no ventalation in the bathroom when one takes a bath and the place turns into a sauna. Lastly the owners recommend a place called Cassies to eat, well you get a free soda if you go their but its highly overpriced, the floor slants downhill in spots and its nothing more than a cow town bar for cowboys and girls. I will say the food was good but you shouldnt be spending 50 dollars for a two person meal in Cody when there are so many other cheaper places with the same quality food. Lastly, just remember the place may be close to the rodeo grounds and its on the western outskirts to the road to Yellowstone, go in town, get a much nicer place and in my view well if this place when you leave them notes about the condition of a room and they do not even have the decency to call you back, well the sooner this place is put out of business the better. Sorry if its a family run business or not, but no one should have to sleep at the foot of a bed to try and get some air or have to open up windows and curtains to try and sleep at night when your sweating like a pig. Hopefully the owners will also read this comment get your rooms fixed up and put ceiling fans instead of ceiling lights in each room, which also reminds me of the two lights on either side of the bed in this room, one was wired up the other one well it was left with the cord dangling from the wall and no plug in attached to the wires. That is safety for you and remember the room was only 3 weeks old as of 7/23/11. Go some where else unless you can find a room where the AC is in the lower wall in the main part of the motel on the east side. But anything on the west side of the pool my advice is stay away from this area. Bulldozing would be smarter for the owners and rebuilding those bungaloos similar to the hotel next door, which has log cabin style lodging, it was really nice and I am sure worth the money to stay a night or two, just not this place.

Loved it. Clean, decent rooms, freshly done. No smell of old smoke in our room. An afternoon entertainment with Cowboy Singer Val Geissler . The Owners made us feel like family coming to visit. Would recommend to anyone. If you want the personal and simple things come visit.

Comfortable atmosphere. Service was great. Very, very very clean and neat. Plenty of towels, always. Its an older Motel and is very well kept. Very quiet. Also had Laundry facilities available, which was great for more than a one day stay. The location to both Yellowstone and to all the places in Cody couldn't have been better. The proximity of the "Our Place" restaurant across the street was very handy and the food excellent. If we get up to Cody again sometime, we will definitely stay at Big Bear.

Just being honest here, as to help out fellow travelers: No likes, only dislikes. Dirty, no phone in the room, beds are like a rock, stained towels, need I say more? Not worth $140 per night. I have stayed at much cleaner places for less.

This place was great. I am traveling with children and they loved it here. It is VERY clean and the owners are very nice, good people. Beds are fine, rooms are fine. Like having your own little cabin to stay in. If I am ever in Cody, Wyoming again, this is the place! As for the review that said that it smelled......It's an Old West town! There is a rodeo every night a block away! Must have been a rich city folk that left that one. This place is really cool!

Nice clean rooms, courteous friendly accomdating staff, awesome surroundings and easy drive to yellowstone. would recommend this place to everyone, pet friendly, comfy beds and good shower.

Everything was nice..beds good and to be able to open the windows at night was great!! It made for wonderful sleeping.. The only thing is they could use better towels. Some we had were abit rough!! But overall it was a great place!! Across the street was a wonderful small place for breakfast with great food!!! We enjoyed the whole experience!!

The price was right and the rooms were clean. the location was close to everything in cody. Two complaints some of the towels need to be up graded. the A/C wall unit was a little noisey.

The Big Bear Motel was a nice place to stay in Cody. It was rustic but comfortable. The only complaint we had was that the towels were the size of small hand towels. Otherwise, we were very pleased. The hotel is right next door to the arena where the Cody rodeo is held nightly in the summer. We will return. The price was reasonable too for the height of the tourist season.
