Rib Mountain Inn, Wausau

The villas were not within walking distance to the lifts as advertised. The Villa we stayed in had a musty smell and really needed to be updated. The couch in the room was so soiled I was not comfortable sitting on it. The fireplace (gas) did not put out any heat. After leaving our pillows behind we were not given any help finding them and getting them back. We will not be staying here again.

A group of 12 friends and I wanted to reserve some villas for an upcoming ski trip. I talked with Brenda through email, and worked out that they had 2 villas available for the weekend we were looking at. I knew it was a holiday weekend so I double checked it was ok to stay 2 nights and not 3, and they confirmed that was fine. (2 nights was crucial because most of our group couldn't stay a full 3 nights because of work). I call to make the reservations and everything is fine. Then, later that night I get an email in a document form I can't open on my computer. I finally find a way to view it and all it says is it's a 3 night minimum for that weekend. I quickly email again copying the conversation I had with Brenda and asking them to honor their 2 night agreement. A week passes and no response. I try to follow up but no luck. then a few days later I get 2 of the same generic automated email canceling my reservation. What a complete waste of time and lack of customer respect. Needless to say not doing our business here.

We had a great time last weekend. The Inn was very nice. The breakfast was fantastic, more then you can eat. We will for sure go back. Recommend the Inn highly. Ken the manager was a wonderful host and cook! M & J

Great views of fall colors! Awesome breakfast. Pillow-top matresses made it feel like home. Recently remodeled all new fixtures, appliances, carpet, and flooring

We stayed there so our kids were able to walk to the ski hill. We got a ski package $86.00 per night for 4 people 2 queen size beds. This is exactly what to expect. The most comfortable bed in a hotel room I ever slept on (just like at home). There is a microwave/bar frig and table, free internet, new tiled bathroom, small balcony and large hot tub and sauna on the grounds. The breakfast was good the first morning, okay the second morning but after 5th mornings it got really old (they could change the menu from day to day). And yes, as someone else mentioned the hallways are especially musty and the manager is not friendly at all. My two teenagers were afraid of one man they had working there but there were two ladies and an older gentlemen that were very pleasant.

My family, friends and I have been staying at the Rib Mountain Inn for the past years. We usually take between 9 to 11 of the 16 rooms. There are so many things we love; we already have plans to return in January 2009. Let me briefly list just a few of the things we like, in no particular order: 1. The outdoor Jacuzzi is huge and well maintained. 2. The breakfasts are excellent and homemade by Ken (the manager) 3. Being able to have connecting rooms is great for larger parties. 4. The kitchen has virtually everything you need, and if it’s missing something, just ask Ken or Linda. (We do bring our own martini glasses and shaker.) 5. The fireplaces are super and Ken always has wood on your balcony. 6. It is a very short walk through the woods to the high-speed ski lift at Granite Peak. 7. Ken (and Linda) are incredibly accommodating. 8. We have had some real large parties and although we can be a bit loud, we never got a complaint from anyone. In fact, we have had other people we don’t know join us for a drink and some food. 9. DVD players for the kids. 10. Everyone there is as friendly as can be – guests and staff (especially Ken) I am not related to Ken, nor do I have an financial interest in the Rib Mountain Inn. We all love the place. It is one of the highlights of our the year.

We just stay at the Rib Mountain Inn. Everything was wonderful - almost like being at home. If your going to be in the Wausau area and are looking for a great value - this is the place. From the homemade muffins and scrabbled eggs to sitting under the stars in the hot tub. Plus Rib Mountain Inn is within walking distance to the Ski hill, Golf coarse and a 2 mile trail. Everything was perfect!

Between the rude staff and musty smell,obviously we weren't very excited for our stay. Too late to back out of the reservation(make sure to read fine print) , we were forced to unload our things and make the best of it. Having already finished skiing for the day, we went in to town to eat dinner. Upon our return to the "Lodge", we discovered that the lobby/front desk closed at 10pm and we were left without any sheets for the pull out couch. The next morning there was a complimentary breakfast. Which would have been nice, but no-one ever mentioned it to us when checking in. One glimmer of hope for this place was the 14 person hot tub(be prepared to remove and replace the 10 ton cover) and friendly people staying there. Sorry, but I just can't justify the $120 spent on no service and mediocre room. Maybe 15 years ago it was the place to stay. But I'd recommend driving the extra 1/4 mile to the Best Western...

Rib Mountain Inn is a nice hotel. The only problem is that they have a FIRM BOOK policy! That means once you reserve a room, there is no turning back! Unfortunately, once we reserved a room we had a death in the family. Rib Mountain Inn had absolutely NO consideration and I lost my money. My advise to you is to choose another hotel!!!

Shiela ran the front desk and breakfast room as if it were her home. She helped my boyfriend get the best deal on roses for me and even baked homemade brownies to share one afternoon. We stayed at the main lodge, not in a villa.
