Days Inn Merle Hay, Urbandale

We stayed during the boys state basketball tournament with 7 guys in 2 rooms and to be honest weren't expecting much. The Days Inn on Merle Haye couldn't even live up to NO expectations. Too much chlorine in the pool/hot tub made them unusable. Terrible service from the front desk ladies. They let the breakfast food run out before it was scheduled to close at 9:00 and didn't refill anything after politely asking. Trampled snow turned to ice in front of the side door.

The room was slightly better than a cheap motel. Clogged toilet, looked like the floor and baseboard under the sink hadn't been cleaned well in months or longer. The whole building had a strange stinky smell to it. We stayed two nights and should have left after the first but didn't out of necessity. I woke up with two rashes that looked like a series (approximately 40 or more) of bites or welts on my thigh and about 10-15 on my inner ankle -- bed bugs?? We wanted to let the kids swim while we sat in the jacuzzi when we arrived but the jacuzzi was permanently covered and apparently not used any longer. The pool walls were so dirty that people had scratched their names in the dirt on the square tiles. We will never stay at that location again. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is wanting a clean place to stay.
