Was not fun with someone with alleriges.
By Sherry Dowers, 4/29/12
Sherrman House Inn is a nice, clean, comfortable but if you or one of your family members has alleriges or breathing problems, you need to move on down the road. The room was small and it had a smell like old. I thought we where at granny's house and she forgot to open the windows for 100 + years. When we went bad downstairs the lady said would like another room. If the first room smelled why don't you think the other rooms would be any better. Oh, if you stay on Sunday they fix a big breakfast I think she 9 dollars but with your stay you get it for 7 dollars.

Great little get away.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/10
I love the old rooms, the way they are decorated. It reminds me of an old victorian bedroom. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food is alittle pricey, but well worth it. The whole experience was one that will remain in my mind. I will deffinantly be back. Beautiful old place. The breakfast buffet on Sunday mornings are excellent.

excellent service, great food and great management
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/10
We stay in a lot of hotels each year. This is one of the best that we have visited. The staff and waiters were out standing and willing to make your stay the best ever. My personal thanks to Doug Bessler owner of the Sherman House. He was there to make sure you enjoyed your stay. The food was excellent and highly recommended. We will be staying here every time we visit Batesville.

Restaurant service has gone downhill
By samcarter, 6/30/10
We like to stop off at the Sherman Inn for dinner when we're driving through Indiana. In the past we've had great service, servers quick to take our orders and ask us if we want anything. This last time we stopped, the new management clearly does not know how to assign wait stations. Our waiter was assigned to our table and to a private room on the other side of the first floor! It took half an hour until another waitress (who could have taken our order) found him. To his credit, he was very apologetic and did everything he could to get our order in and our food out to us. However, the other servers--an older woman and two teenagers--stood around and either ignored us or glared at us. Maybe because we had three kids with us? They waited on all the other people around us, but our table apparently was handed to this poor guy who was also serving the private room. That is poor restaurant management. A waiter's assigned tables should be in the same area, so he can be responsive to the needs of the diners. The food at the restaurant is good, but the portions have gone down in recent years. My husband ordered a German chicken dish that consisted of two very small cutlets under sauce. He had to eat our kids' leftover food to fill up. Sure they offer a salad bar, but for fifteen dollars we'd expect more than two three-inch chicken cutlets. We will probably not be stopping off at the Sherman House again.

WoW!! What a weekend!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/29/07
The General Manager, Trina, helped us throw our wedding reception at The Sherman House. I could not imagine the reception going any better. The staff was very responsive to our needs and made any adjustments to accomodate our Bridal Party very rapidly. The restrooms and decor are all top notch, and the location of the adjacent Town Square provided some excellent recreational activities!! I have frequented the Sherman House a few times a year over the past 7 or 8 years. I have always had a fairly good experience, however, the past year's dining visits, and our Wedding Reception were beyond exceptional. I have managed restaurants for over 10 years, from steakhouses to fast food, single unit and multi-unit. I could only dream of having such a solid performing staff as The Sherman House's. Keep up the extraordinary performance!

Business trip
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/8/07
Really comfortable and very good service. The atmosphere is cool and relaxing. Personally: Since I was going to Hill Rom school next door, I didn't have to drive anywhere, everything is right there. Eateries, movie theater, and shops.

A Great place to stop
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/26/05
I love the charm of the small city square. The fact that there is a movie house and a small bar down the street helps. I like the rooms, the halls are small, but the building is old. The room is just the right size and the beds are perfect. I enjoy the fact that the smoking and non smoking are separte ( I smoke). I love the food, so does my husband. I go the Metamora at least once a year and I always stay there when I need to get an early start on a day of shopping.

a bad nights rest....
By david, 7/18/05
from the garrish, hallucinogenic wallpaper to the ever - present clunk-clunk of the compressor on the roof, this place lives up to its boast of being a 100+ year old hotel! (not in a good way) it may just be room #203, but I don't think so. In the morning I was delighted to have an invigorating COLD shower, as all of the hot water had been used up! The desk clerk seemed put upon when I demanded some form of discount; they provided a "generous" $7 cut off of the $70+ room rate. I've complained to the owner but haven't heard anything. save your money - you can get a cheaper, better room at one of the chain hotels nearby.
