Just what we were looking for!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/09
Liked - The chairs on the porch, kitchenette, cleanliness. Disliked - Not much to say - Not for the person looking for a fancy hotel. The owner was very nice. Great price. Great scenery and very peaceful. My husband and I loved to sit outside in the chairs provided in the evening. We loved the kitchenette so we could save out leftovers from the great restaurants we visited. We walked everywhere. Very clean. Had a great time. Be prepared for an older motel which is exactly what I was looking for.

no phone service
By JoAnnM, 6/25/09
Clean room, but older motel than we usually stay at. Lady was really nice. Only thing-you can't call the motel. The phone just rings with no answer.

Horrible Experience and Customer Service
By revue man, 4/14/09
Recently made a return trip to what I now call the “Un” Happy Hollow. My wife and I took advantage of their pet friendly policy in 2007. While it was not perfect then we still enjoyed the place. For the low price it was fine… rustic, off the beaten path, etc. We also at that time found the younger female owner (or manager…not sure) we dealt w/ to be VERY nice and easy going. It was a decent stay overall and we actually came away w/ fond memories of the place and weekend stay which would be one of our last w/ our dog that has since passed. That owner was not to be found this time unfortunately! Returning this year (w/o our beloved pet, God rest his soul…) we even recommended the place to our family. So in the end we were responsible for 3 other rooms at the motel being reserved, bringing to the motel nearly $1500. The first night there we ended up having a 50-60 lb dog staying in the room directly ABOVE us. Yes… a large dog staying in an older motel w/ paper thin walls and flooring ABOVE another room! So, the night went w/out sleep while listening to the dog walk/play and tenants walk/talk above us get settled in and hang out through out the night. There was also a very loud squeak of the door to the stairs each time the dog/tenants went out of the motel. Not a ton of barking, but enough. Early that next morning, we could hear again the door, dog etc. All of this even over a VERY loud window unit! Next day I called the front desk honestly confident they would alleviate this issue of having the large pet on a second floor either by having the tenant switch to another room elsewhere in the motel or even OUR room. I first called and VERY POLITELY briefly explained the issue of the dog and noise and simply just asked if the couple w/ the dog would be staying another night. The elderly woman (not the owner from 2007) said she would check. I was on hold for 10 mins until I finally hung up and called back. Still being polite I asked if she’d found out the info I’d just requested. Hardly 2 words into my call the elderly woman SCREAMED at me saying “No, that dog did not bark!!” and that “I was wrong” and then proceeded to AND HUNG UP on me! Again I called back and began to explain it was not just the barking, but mainly the fact that the large dog was above us and that it was impossible not to be noisy. Again… she SCREAMED at me saying “No, there is not a problem” and that “I was wrong” and I was HUNG UP ON AGAIN! Finally I called again telling her of our past stay (where we and our dog were on the first floor and in the corner room of the motel) and that’d we’d brought her $1500 in business for the weekend and asking for a refund for the next night for my wife and I so we could stay elsewhere. Again, she screamed and denied any problem and of course denied a refund. No “I’m sorry” or anything close. Just screaming, yelling and being hung up on. ONE OF THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER ENCOUNTERED. Luckily the last night the tenants above us traded rooms w/ another one of their friends staying at the motel. Other major complaints had by my extended family staying there… bad smells in the rooms, unusable room door locks, loud bedding w/ unclean sheets. And, there were no ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs. On one instance, one of the owners knocked one quick knock, opened the door and began to enter the room while we were there getting dressed! I’d called the Park Hotel just down the street about possibly moving to one of their rooms. Not only was the receptionist extremely courteous and kind she also said over the yrs she’s been at the Park Hotel that I WAS ONLY ONE OF MANY CALLERS THAT WERE TRYING TO LEAVE THE HAPPY HOLLOW. For an extra $10-$20 a night this will be our place to stay next time. Yes the Happy Hollow may be cheaper, rustic, close to downtown etc. But “buyer beware” if anything goes wrong. You will encounter some of the worst customer service that can possibly be found anywhere!

Fun and Nice
By Winnie, 8/10/08
Happy Hollow was pleasant to stay at. It was a homey little place and the service was so friendly. It is not the fanciest hotel, but it is comfortable and clean. The location was perfect for walking and getting to Bath House Row. The owner was a nice lady who offered advice on waht to do and where to eat. Nice stay for a decent price.

Super Nice Clean!
By Hog Call, 1/30/08
I loved staying here so much that I have come back every year for the past 3 years and plan to stay here again this year 08. Yes, the hotel is an older hotel but that's what adds to the character of the place. It's within walking distance to Central Ave., but far enough away that the noise is not a bother. The rooms are clean and many have a kitchen, which comes in handy to store drinks and food. The workers at the hotel are very nice and helpful and they give you a nice littel basket of goodies when you check in. I will surely keep The Happy Hollow on my list of places to stay every time I come to Hot Springs. The location and service are the major positive points, and then the clean roomy rooms. The bathrooms are small but I love them also. They have ceremic tile from floor to ceiling a small shower, but we loved it too! The price is excellent! We'll be back time and time again. For the price you won't be dissappointed. The stupid person who wrote the review without going in and seeing a room or the attendent is very ignorant! They are just showing their ignorance by posting a revies without really checking out the hotel. This is a super hotel!

LOVE THIS PLACE!
By ladyluck_a, 8/31/07
I Love everything about this place. One of my favorite hotels in the world! Right in the nestled bossoms of the mountain with good hiking trails right there. Plus a few blocks walk to the historic downtown. Quiet, clean, and friendly.

A Quiet Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/25/07
For a one night stay, we didn't need anything fancy, so we went for low rates and cleanliness. This place had the most decent reviews for our requirements. I called and made reservations one day before our stay, so availability was great for its location. We were pleased that this place was right in the downtown area of Hot Springs, yet off on a side street with enough distance to walk without having to find a parking space in town. Our first impression upon arrival was not as great as we'd hoped it would be. It is definately nothing fancy on the outside, but clean nonetheless. It was comforting seeing that every car parked in the property were very nice vehicles. Our check in was very quick and we were given a small basket of chocolates, candies, coffee, creamer, and sugars along with our key. The clerk was very nice. Our room was nice and cool when we entered. Our room was old fashioned, just as I'd read in the reviews. It all looked like it was built and decorated in the 50s. The bedding was clean; spring mattress was tight, but I slept well on it. The bathroom was small. Shower was small and there were no complimentary soaps or shampoos.. There was a hand soap dispenser in the shower, which was weird and also one by the sink. Nice size tv and the coffee they gave us was great. I went to sleep quickly with no noise in the backgroud other than the air conditioner. Our check-out time was 11:00 am, which was nice because most places have check out at 10:00. We didn't feel rushed. Overall it was a nice, quiet stay for one night. I wouldn't mind staying two, but the small shower would bother me after that. The appearance was the only downfall, but we felt comfortable.

Like Something from the 60's
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/8/07
This motel is really old but it was clean. The location was nice. The furniture was quite old and some was broken down. The beds were on rollers which was weird. You really get what you pay for but we really just slept there which was fine. Would not go back as there was no pool and really any simple amenities expected by consumers these days.
