Not a day disappointed
By JulieP, 09/20/09
We had our 2 boys with us for our first ever visit to DC and our first stay at a Hyatt in years and we were just absolutely delighted and satisfied with EVERYTHING!!! Our room was plenty big enough and clean!!! The lobby staff and concierge were very helpful and accomodating. This location was perfect after walking everywhere we did taking notice to other hotels we looked at staying before we booked here! I do have to give the staff at Grand Slam Cafe their well-deserved props mostly including Jen and John, and our 2 servers Emma and Moumou (sp?) They treated us like we were celebrities and were absolutely amazing with our small boys, ages 2 and 3. I can't go on enough about how great this staff was-we'd go back there just because of them....very satisfied guests and I'm sad to see how many negative comments I do see on such ridiculous things to complain about. Sure, our toilet and sink leaked a little, so what...notify maintenance, throw a towel down and go about your business. Slow going drain in the tub/shower...oh well...i think that can be common anywhere....I've had bad experiences at the Ritz-Carlton and now see that I don't have to pay that kind of money to have the niceness we experienced at the Hyatt...thank you...can't wait to make another road trip and visit again!!!! Oh, and a tasty breakfast buffet with a wonderful omelet station, delicious juices and a nice variety of cold and hot items....

Beautiful Place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/31/09
First the dislike: the pool is a little small and in an enclosed room so when you get 7 or 8 kids in the pool yelling, "Marco-Polo" it gets a little loud. The hotel itself is outstanding, beautiful views from our room on the 7th floor. The staff is outstanding, first class all the way. Check in is at 3:00pm, but we arrived there early and they gave us a room at around 10:00am! We we're only staying overnight and I'm sorry to say that because I would have enjoyed staying another 6 days. The hotel restaraunt, the sports bar, all of their staff is FIRST CLASS. I would recommend this hotel even if it wasn't perfectly located centrally to where you need to be, business or pleasure. I would and plan on going back to do more sightseeing in D.C. Even if our politicians leave a bad taste in your mouth, The Grand Hyatt at 1000 H street will leave you impressed with our Nation's Capital city!

Not a family hotel
By VJ, 08/19/09
This hotel is definitely not for families with kids. The swmming pool is a joke. Its 50 ft long and just 3.5 ft deep even my 6 yr old found it shallow. And surprisingly they didnt even have cartoon channels on TV. And we were stuck with the two restaurants down in the hotel. And the rooms were a bit cramped for 2 adults and 2 kids. Concierge was either missing or busy on phone and not very helpful. Being in DC for the first time had trouble and were given very vague directions to get around. and As for plus points, hotel looks grand inside. Ideal for conferences I guess. The internet charges were 9.95 for a slow connection and for a dependable connection had to pay 25 bucks since I had a presenation to make. Startbucks on site was ideal.

LOVED IT!!
By matt, 08/10/09
We just got back from a family weekend in DC and the Grand Hyatt was great! The staff was wonderful, rooms were nice and the metro was so convenient. The free breakfast (family plan) was amazing, huge selection. The valet and self parking were full, but not a problem, as just across the street there is a parking lot and it's cheap. Very close to everything you'd need. We will return:)

Never again
By Holly, 07/07/09
I was bitten by bedbugs (doctor confirmed) the first night. And, again over the course of the week. It took two trips to the doctor, once I got home, to treat them. I mentioned it at the desk and they said they would "check the room". No apologies. I was with a group of 44 people. Most complained of the rooms being unclean- dirty mugs and glasses, no clean washcloths, smoke-free rooms smelled of cigarettes, to name a few.

Good hotel with family
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/17/09
I would definately recommend families to stay here. My husband, 6 and 9 year old shared one room with two double beds. My in laws stayed next door in a king sized room. The rooms were clean except for our shower curtain on the outside looked as if someone had spilled coffee on it. We had to have our room turned way down to get it cold, but it seemed to work after we contacted the front desk. The room was cleaned daily excpet one day they didn't give us new coffee cups. Hair dryers with lots of power (1875, biggest I've seen) Quiet rooms not bothered by neighbors. Our kids enjoyed the small pool. A lot of chlorine made the adults eyes burn just sitting on the sides watching The Grand Slam restaurant was great for our kids and adults. They provided crackers and crayons for the kids the last time we vistied. The first time we ate there the waiter mixed up the sandwiches and ofterred to buy desserts for everyone. The new restaurant the cure was best for adults. The kids didn't care for the foods. It was very nice and the food was excellent. The restuarant on the lower level, surrounded by water had an excellent buffet for breakfast (adults 20 and kids half price). The staff in the entire hotel was very accomodating. They brought extra towels quickly. The restaurant/deli upstairs was good for breakfast. Nice variety. Metro very convenient, you go down 2/3 escalators and you are there. Close to Hard Rock Cafe. My family would stay again if we visited Washington D.C.

Yeah, so what is so "grand" about this?
By ky, 05/26/09
I stayed here for a business trip and i arrived late in the evening. When i got to the room, i could smell a strong cigarette smell which seem to come from the bathroom (non-smoking room). Since i didn't know that i could change rooms, i stayed in the room and purchased air freshner and used wipes to wipe each surface. The marble surfaces had ring marks all over them and the desk had a huge white stain on it. The housekeeper only comes once a day in the morning WAY before the 12 noon check out so I would suggest having them come when you get to your room. Also, the concerige was not very helpful. He told me that there weren't any night tours which when i was in DC a few years ago, there were plenty. ???? I had more help from the travel magazine that they had available than them. Overall, the hotel was nice enough to stay in for a few day. But, i didn't get an "at home" feeling. Location was good too. You can catch the Metro right downstairs and that goes everywhere you want to go.

never stay again
By Natsu, 04/24/09
My plan contains with beakfast, but the continental beakfast was cheap, and we had to pay extra to grade up the baffet beakfast. The bill came again and again, so you should check the statement every month!!
