Management Response to Watch Out
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/25/08
My name is Robin James, I am the General Manager of the Beacon Motor Lodge. I am dismayed to find a negative review and not have to chance to respond to GS-Watch Out. The entire Outer Banks had problems for 3 or 4 weeks with flying knats caused by the Burns Road Fire in Tyrell County that has been burning since June 1. Father's Day weekend was the worst.
We went through 3 cases of insect spray in 2 days. We ARE an older motel, right on the beach. Our oceanfront rooms open directly on the beach which can cause a problem, especially with locks. We have an A rating with the Health Department and 2 diamonds from AAA. My family has owned the Beacon since 1969. Even though we are seasonal, we employ 2 full time maintenance people during the winter months making improvements. I am sure maintenance was sent to take care of any lock problems, but I am not sure who this guest was so I have no way to check our maintenance logs. Several of our housekeepers have been with us for several years. During the worst time of the knats they worked extra hard to try and take care of the problem. We found that the people who left their doors open had the worst problem with knats. Father's Day weekend, Ace Hardware sold out of insect spray. I would like to close by saying I apologize to GS if they did not enjoy their stay with us. We are family owned and operated and many of our rooms are already reserved for 2009!
