A little disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/21/09
Stayed here for 3 days and I was disappointed. The room had a definite musty odor. The beds were HARD and the pillows were awful but we brought our own. For 170.00 a night you would think the beds would at least be comfortable. The pool is nice and it's 8 ft. deep. It is a quiet location and just steps from the beach. The staff is nice and very helpful. The room did not seem to be very clean and I had them reclean when I arrived. They were extremely nice about it. Only put 2 towels in the room and we had to go down to the office for more. The view is awesome. I would love to say that I would stay here again but if you can't get a good night's sleep on vacation then something is WRONG!!!

Nice little place
By KeithGi, 02/28/09
I stayed here four nights while on business in Morehead City. It is a nice, quaint, older style hotel. I was skeptical when I first arrived, but rapidly settled in. The room/bathroom was clean and my room had a relatively new mattress. Not an overabundance of hot water, but adequate. No wifi/internet available. There was a small refridgerator in the room, no microwave although there was a place for one. Free coffee is available in the lobby. Paid winter rates at $45/night, very reasonable. Since my business obligations kept me very busy, I did not have a tremendous amount of time to enjoy the hotel. The view is beautiful from the room and from the back 'lawn'. I enjoyed walking out on the beach for a few minutes each morning, as a nice way to start my day. I think you would enjoy this hotel, but keep in mind it was built in/for a previous era. It was easy to think this was what 'going to the beach' was like when your parents/grandparents were traveling 'in the day'.

Love of the Sea.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/17/09
My husband and I were looking for a place just to get away from everything. We just came up on the Seahawk by traveling along the highway. We loved the tropical rooms and the patio outside where we could sit and have a drink and look at the ocean, Then when we went to bed that night, we could hear the ocean, Great place to stay. Remember folks, all people are not alike. If you don't like the peace and quiet of the sea, then go to an expensive hotel. If you want to play big shot, just remember, someone will let you. Great place Seahawk, don't change anthing. We would recommend you to people who love the water. Keith and Judy Moore. Morehead, Kentucky and Oriental, North Carolina

I will never return!
By Sarahv, 10/14/08
The room was filthy! I heard they had really clean rooms. When I went in the room it was not clean their was hair on the bathroom floor, the bathroom floor was dirty. The carpet was wet (humidity maybe), the sheets were wet (again humidity). The carpet was filthy it stained my husband's feet. I had to wear flip flops anytime I walked around in that room. There was a wedding reception (we were not told about), and the music was really loud. The only good things were the water pressure in the bathroom, and the hammocks. I would not waste any money on this place again. It was awful.

Perfect for a relaxing girls trip!
By Indiana gal, 10/02/08
I just returned from my annual girls trip. There were a total of 9 of us. We stayed in one of the villas. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. It looked like it might have recently been remodeled. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, this is not it. But the villa was clean, nicely decorated, (appropriate beach style furniture) and a great place for a low maintenance, relaxing vacation. There was a full kitchen, suppplied with everything one would need. We brought our own food and beverages which allowed us to save a lot of money. There were 3 bedroooms, each with their own full bath. We had two large balconies (upper and lower) that offered great beach views. I would definitely recommend one of the villas for those vacationing with a large group. I plan on returning with a couple of families, including children, next summer.

Nasty Motel
By Alicia, 09/09/08
We loved the beach! But the room was NASTY, I booked the room off the internet and I went by price trying to get the cheapest like anyother person would. When we arrived and went into our room we were like grossed out! The boxsprings on the bed had mildew on them the trash cans were nasty. The floors were BLACK from not being cleaned. The POOL was the only thing nice about this motel! Next Time we will stay at The whaler INN its much Nicer and the same price!

The staff was very nice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/12/08
My family and I stayed there this year..08. The staff was very nice and the view was beautiful but.....the air conditioner was broke so we spent most of our time outside, luckily it was a nice day!!! The room was damp and smelled like mold. When we finally returned to our room after it cooled off, we were evacuated due to a fire in the air conditioning room!!! Needless to say we did NOT complete our stay but we did get a full refund without any problems.

Emerald City, It is not. It is OceanFront however.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/05/08
Stayed end of July/08. Seahawk Motor lodge, is a 2 story white concrete block building with about 20 rooms probably built 40+ years ago, all rooms are clean, and all facing the beautiful ocean view. Our room was clean and had white painted cement block walls. Room was good except for the 50-100 ants coming out of the ceiling, but what would expect from a 2 story ocean front "motel" lodge. (I went to store and sprayed a small amount of ant spray and that "pretty much" took care of them.) Keep in mind, Mostly all the ocean front hotels/motels on the main road of "Salter Path Road"?, are all about 50+ years old. There are probably only 2 or 3 new big Hotels that probably book up fast. If I went there again, I would try and book the Sheraton Hotel which is the neighbor of the Seahawk Motel. The twelve story Sheraton had their own walking and/or fishing Pier, nice pool, Fine Restaurant, and a cool thatched roof bar on beach. (We are two 51 year old adults w/o kids.) On the other hand, if you have young kids and want to save money on meals, and dont care about being fancy, stay at the Seahawk. They have 4 nice clean grills (bring all your cooking stuff) and the pool is next to the grills and the beach is only about 50' from rooms. They have all the "basics of a beach front motel": ocean front rooms, outdoor grills, small pool, room is not fancy but clean, and of course the front door is 20 years old but everything worked. The rooms had no coffee machine, no hair dryer, no microwave, they did have a mini refrigerator and TV, if thats ok with you. Not much to do at night except walk on beach or sit in neat swinging chairs on lawn facing ocean. Also at the Seahawk, you have to go to front office for coffee, and you'll have to buy donuts at the local Food Lion grocery store. Or you can just walk 5 minutes next door to Sheraton and have a sit down breakfast if you want. I didnt mind donuts and juice in our room. Not much trouble at the Seahawk for a 10-17 year to get into (however, they will probably find the Sheraton bar next door anyway). You could probably watch kids better at the Seahawk and cook out with the family too. Three minute drive you will find a "Food Lion" grocery Story which is upscale and has Fantastic selection of food. The twelve story Sheraton Hotel is a lot newer and has many extras, (I think 50% rooms faced ocean?) they have breakfast, lunch, and a fine dining restaurant with their own Pier, and the outside bar is usefull. Most of the 18-30 year olds were hanging at the bar. Either way the beach is unbelievable...Clean, Little or no seaweed, no sharp shells. We paid about $165. nightly for Seahawk Sat-Tues. which I thought was a little pricey but what the heck it "is" ocean front and it was end of July/08, right? Must do Items: 1.) Drive 10 minutes, rent a Kyack for $10. in center of the town of Beauford and visit the Wild Spanish Horses across the river...... it is a must see!!! Bring a baiting suit, some old wet shoes and camera and dont get near the horses. Town law: "If the horses react to you, you are too close". We got within 10' staying in the Kyack taking photos. Or get out of Kyack and walk through the trees and see lots of horses!... It was relatively safe and fun, (just dont think your going to pet the horses, I think they may be a little wild?). Great family experience. 2.) Drive 10 minutes and see the Seaquarium.

Mixed emotions.
By Michelle, 07/08/08
It depends on what your priorities are. This is not a full service hotel. It is set up for a self sufficent vacation. I like the idea of being able to grill out on their deck and save money on eating out. The pool was very clean and the staff is very nice. The room we stayed in was a downstairs double bed. I loved being able to open the sliding glass door to the courtyard with pool and beach access. Excellent if your vacationing with kids and your priorities are fun and sun. The set up allows kids freedom to roam the courtyard and play in their wonderful hammocks. Sure the rooms are small however they were clean and the shower had good pressure, the beds however were awful and yes all the rooms are smoking. Summer rates are competitive for the area!

What a disappointment!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/04/08
First of all, the only thing nice about this hotel is the views and the easy access to the beach. The hotel is very old and the room was extremely tiny. The bathroom was so little you could barely turn around and was not clean. The toilet was stained and there were hairs everywhere. The carpet in the room was also stained and the tv was circa 1980. Horrible! There was also a weird smell to the room. I loved the family environment of the beach, and will probably visit Atlantic Beach again...just not the Seahawk!
