The Santorini beach \"Resort\"
It all begins when my family has to go to a wedding in Cutchogue NY on the weekend of 8/20/04. We drive in from Jersey on that Friday and pull up to the Santorini hotel/motel (as the sign states when you pull up).
Little history first, I found out that we were going to this motel, and that the entire wedding was staying there as well, so I check out their website and it doesnt look that bad, well from the aerial shot at least. I see a pool and a private beach so I think to myself how bad can it be. Boy, was I wrong....
So, as I was saying, we drive up to the motel and everyone was speechless... Not from the beauty of the motel, but from the pure disgust that we all had in our stomachs because we had to stay in this place and get ready for a wedding there. As you may be guessing, it was absolutely disgusting...The pool was dirty, the private beach was more like a huge sand dune, and the rooms....Oh man, the rooms... We were told by the very helpful woman at the front desk when we checked in (and paid $400+ by the way) that we had the best room in the place. So, the positive person that I am thought that, ok, well maybe it wont be that bad. Wrong Again... We go to our room and try to open the door, 3 tries later we got it open, and get hit in the face with the most disgusting mildew and dust smell that I have ever experienced in my life. The air conditioner was off, and it was around 100 degrees in the room, so I turned the air on to get a huge cloud of dust directly up my nose. 10 minutes later, after power sneezing the dust out of my nostrils, and hearing the 3 other people that I am staying with in utter shock that we were experiencing this, I looked at the curtains to find that they were covered in mold and mildew. The bathroom, also covered in mildew and mold looked like the last time it was cleaned was in the late 70s (Im being generous)...The beds had blue 1970 disco headboards, and when we pulled back the covers we found bugs on the pillows, and hairs...Yes hairs on the pillows.... Granted we were all disgusted, but we were so bamboozled by the whole situation, and that we had to be at a rehearsal dinner in about 10 minutes, we brushed it off and went and had a good time at the dinner. At the dinner we talked to other people that were staying at the motel and it just intensified everyones anger because everyone was complaining about the accommodations that they had. So we all get back to the motel and we decide that we are out of there, so we leave our keys at the desk and head to the best western in Riverhead, which I give 5 stars by the way. The next morning, our knight in shinning armor, and quite a fire cracker, (lets just call her AC) showed up at the motel and checked everyone out of the hotel and got our money back, well with the help of two visits from the police...
So all in all, the wedding itself was a great and beautiful time, but if anyone ever goes to Cutchogue for any reason, DO NOT STAY AT THE SANTORINI!!!! That is if the board of health doesnt close it down first!
