Riveredge Resort Hotel, Alexandria Bay

We loved it. Everyone was really nice and treated us very well. They went all out for the New Years celebration. The next day brunch was amazing. Very well put together. Cant wait to return.

Let me first start out saying that I work in the customer service industry and have done so for nine years, so I know how a hotel and restaurant staff should treat guests. I recently stayed here and we were there for a military couples retreat! We were told that the function would include breakfast, lunch and dinners. The front desk welcomed us very warmly and did so for the remainder of our stay. Even the maintenance man putting up wall paper in the hall way was friendly. Our issue was with the restaurant this Wednesday night. In going on this retreat we were told that all meals would be covered, something happened with the contract and dinner was no longer covered. The managers of our retreat worked something out so we received vouchers for $18.00 per person for dinner, keep in mind hotel restaurants are high priced. So on scheduled date night my husband and I go to the restaurant with our vouchers. The waitress says would you like anything other than water to drink. My husband said no water would be fine. The waitress scoffed at him. He then said we only received $18.00 per person for dinner so we are not very happy with the hotel and water will do just fine. The waitress then replied well we aren’t very happy with you guys either, I was supposed to work a banquet but instead I’m here! I was so angry I started to cry. This was our date night! No matter what you never ever talk back to a guest like that. She was completely unprofessional and obviously is not suited to work in the customer service industry. A lot of my friends that were on the retreat had issues with the restaurant as well. My advice is stay at the hotel they are friendly and have nice rooms but I would stay away from the restaurant till they learn to keep their attitudes on the side.

We experienced 3 horrific, unprofessional staff before even getting into our room! When we arrived, room was not ready yet so we ate at the outdoor restaurant. Our waitress was incompetent and rude - after delivering our food to us 1/2 hour after ordering, she delivered a wrong meal, became angry when asked to rectify it, and then took another 1/2 hour to bring the second meal (that did not need ANY cooking!) When she finally brought the meal, we explained that we would like the meal to be comped since it took an hour to receive. She disappeared, returned with another waitress, LITERALLY THREW our check at us, and stormed off without saying anything. The other waitress, who acted as if she were the manager, asked what the problem with the meal was that we would expect it to be comped. Apparently being an hour late is not of concern to them! Then she admitted she needed to get the "real hotel manager," who, rather than defusing the situation the way an effective manager would, chose to defend her staff and accused us of lying! She seemed to WANT to enage in an argument rather then discuss our desire to have the meal comped (a whole $7.00!) And of course, cancelling our reservations and staying elsewhere was not an option because we did not give "the proper advance notice." Our room, which was incredibly overpriced for what we received, was dirty and the sheets were not changed at all during our stay. After waiting until almost dinnertime for our room to be cleaned on our second day, we finally had to request maid service. And then when we received our bill, we were CHARGED AN EXTRA FEE for maid service, including for the day we checked out! The hotel had very few people staying there, but had a lot of people docking their boats there and using the amenities, and kept the pool and Tiki bar pretty busy. The pool area, which was adequate in appearance, was unruly and filled with drunk adults playing "beer pong" in the pool, spilling beer continuously into the pool water, and using foul language. There were too many adults drinking in and around the pool for it to be child friendly. The hotel is in need of some staff and/or lifeguards at the pool to monitor the environment and keep things from getting out of hand. I do have to commend the Tiki Bar staff - very upbeat, timely, and accommodating. This location has so much potential and could be fixed up pretty nice, but NEEDS A SERIOUS OVERHAUL OF MANAGEMENT in order to become a respectable family resort. It is also incredibly apparent that the staff are miserable working there! Upon speaking with other families staying there, it appears we are not the only ones with a horrible experience! Think twice before bringing young children there, and/or if you are picky about being respected and treated fairly! I've never written a review before but am going out of my way to warn people of what we wish we knew before choosing this place!

The Murder Mystery weeekend package was a joke. When I made the reservations I asked the front desk specifically, "What is the age group that attends?" I was told that it is a wide range. FALSE...ALL Seniors. The weekend was geared around the elderly, which is great for them, however I was mislead. The food was ok, the actual dinner theatre was a complete joke. I have attended a wide range of dinner entertainment, and this was the absolute worst. The band "A touch of Grey" was really bad, as far as quality and knowing what they are doing. Please be advised.....do not go if you are 50 or younger.

This is by far THE MOST hospitality lacking hotel in Alex bay ever!!! Been going to A-Bay for 15 years & decided to "treat" ourselves to an anniversary getaway at the Riveredge. WHAT A WASTE!! They think they are the Ritz Carlton and are far from it. Girl at front desk had a major attitude problem and treated us like 2nd class citizens right at check-in. Rooms had cobwebs and needed to be vacuumed, jacuzzi didn't fully function, fire alarm was hanging by wires over jacuzzi, lights blown in room & hallways, housekeeping sometimes refilled amenities like soap, other times didn't, only 1 ice maker in the entire hotel worked, staff was incredibly rude to guests like we were a bother, NO wet bar in rooms as advertised just a sink, no mini frig in room & we paid $219 a night, couldn't tell you if there was room service or not as staff didn't offer info - complete waste of money & time. Hasn't seen an upgrade in awhile. Only saving grace was restaurant staff but even then food was $10/plate higher than any other restaurant. Save yourself the aggravation & stay either at Edgewood Resort or one of the Mom&Pop motels that give a damn about their guests. This place is a disgrace to those that love The River. Oh and as for the locals, if you go "off season" they do not welcome you at all. They do not like tourists/vacationers in their town after August - they made that clear & we've been going to Alex Bay in the summer for 15 years as diehard fishermen. Will never go "off season" again & will definitely never look twice at the Riveredge Resort!!

The staff was friendly enough, but the rooms were a lot to be desired. Advertised as having a wet bar and it consisted of an extra sink in the room. There wasn't any information on the hotel and/or it's services, e.g. restaurant, bar, pool, etc. No information on local sites of interest, either. Room had 1 desk and one TV cabinet which contained 2 drawers suitable for clothing. The air conditioner did NOT work. If it wasn't such a cool week, we would have suffered from the heat. All this for only $219 per night??? We were very disappointed.

Hotel staff was very unfriendly, during check in, the girl that check us in acted like we were bothering her. Never made eye contact with me during the whole process. actually made a copy of my AAA card. Travel 10-12 times a year and always use my AAA card for discount when booking and never had to even show the card let alone have a copy of it made. We had to leave notes to get coffee, toiletries and tissues replaced. Room could have used a good dusting, kind of beat up in places. still has key locks and you have to hang up a small sign around the door knob for privacy, which kept blowing away if a breeze came through. Hotel charges a House keeping fee!!, never heard of that before. there was no bellhop service available, which for the money I would have expected at a resort hotel for this price. Kind of felt the the hotel was more interested in the rich coming for dinner. Hotel is on other side of Bay and you have to walk around the bay to get to downtown area, was a good 10 minute walk. Would not recommend A-bay to anyone. We found the area on a website listing for honeymoons and figured the week after Memorial Day would be great. We had planned on taking a nice dinner cruise or day cruise around the island and then go out dancing and socializing at night. However,nothing is opened. the area is like a ghost town. Most times we were the only customers at the resturant or bar we visited. Their season is July and August. locals say that it gets busy when school lets out, yet there is nothing for kids in the area. the town is litter with bars, well over 20 bars within a five/ten minute walk of hotel. other then that not much, many buidlings were outright closed. Many areas are dumpy, junk all over the place. What I found strange was the attitude of the locals when we told them we were staying at RiverEdge. The hotel is not well received by the locals. not sure why, but it was like a curse after we told locals where we were staying, really weird. Not a place I would ever visit again or recommend to others. Kind of put a damper on our 2nd honeymoon.

Great room...GREAT FOOD...nice courtious staff...and the room was very clean and confortable. Price was not great....but it was a Saturday night!! I will definately be back.

Made a reseravtion for a premium room with "Castle View" a King size bed and jaccuzzi tub. I received a confirmation number from the reservation "800: number. We arrived about three weks after our resrvation placement date and went to the room they gave us which was 2 full beds and parking lot view...what a great start to a mommy and daddy getaway! Went back to lobby and explained the esrvation confirmation and was told we are full! I asked to speak to the manager (whom never came to the counter)and explained my confirmation number to the check in clerk. he clerk came back and explained how they were doing ME a favor by "bumping" somebody else!! We got the King bed and tub by the PARKING LOT - not the confirmed Castle View and decide to live with it. This is the nicest mismanged joint you will ever visit. We tried to eat in their breakfast area and waited 10 mins to see anyone...all the tables eating in the room saw nobody for service throughout this time. We decided that we should go elsewhere to eat...and found another neighboring resort to be fully staffed and fine. When we thought we wouyld eat dinner oner of our nights in our resort, we found that thye booked a party a pushed all guests into a small room which of course remained understaffed; they need a manger from a hotel perspective...seems like they have no clue at all... Other resorts met our meal nneds as wellas local restaurants...area is extremely depressed and hasn't seen a dollar for infrastructure since the 60's. Their are nice views, but Alex bay is a dive that once was....Stay away and find a place like Ogunquit maine or Kennebunkport...this was the worst resort in NY....Oh and by the way they could give a rat's ass if you are happy or not. This is the ony review I have ever written, the reason is that I want to save others the pain...

We visited July 2007. The staff was very accomodating and friendly. The food in the restaurant was very good. However the room was not as expected. I requested a room with a king bed when we booked several weeks before our visit, explaining that my husband is 6ft 4 and he would be more comfortable in a longer bed. All that was available was a room with 2 double beds and a suite with a queen bed. The suite being $25 more per night. I booked the suite. Upon check in I asked again about a king bed, explaining the need for a longer bed. Once again, they said the suite with the queen was the longest bed they had. When we arrived the suite was not 2 rooms, but an elevated platform up a spiral staircase where the bed was placed. The furniture was very worn and the cushions would not stay on the sofa. Upon retiring the first night we discovered that the bed was not a queen because it was only 6 ft. long. Upon checking out we mentioned this to the staff and they said it was a California Queen (shorter than a regular queen). She said they have many complaints about this, but they did not mention it to us when we booked the room. I am sorry I did not take the room with the double beds, I would have saved money and the bed would have been the same length. They did not offer any compensation for this, so I am presently contacting my credit card company to file a complaint.
