We caught a Walleye right behind the inn!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/7/11
We had a great time at the Chieftain, we brought our two small children and our dog, The owners were fantastic and hooked us up with a room with bun kbeds and a toddler bed. The fishing behind the inn was great, we caught a huge smallmouth bass, hooked a Northern Pike but couldn't land it and got into a mess of walleye... We highly recommend this Inn...

Surprising
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/29/11
We're from the Netherlands and stayed here for the annual Black Bear Scullling Camp. I have only very good memories. It was quiet, the family was very friendly and willing to help everywhere. Food was very delicious and good for everyone. And the view? Go and see yourself and you will :-) all day!

amazing!
By Mellissa, 6/15/10
the chieftain motor inn was cozy and wonderful! with the wonderful staff and family atmosphere i felt like i could sit with the people who own the place and tell them my life story because i trusted them so much they were so nice! the pool was always clean and if anyone complained about the temp. they would go and fix the problem! i highly recomend the chieftain motor inn if you like cozy, not to modern hotels. oh and the view was AMAZING and the free canoes to the guests were wonderful. our visit to the chieftain was deff the highlight of our stay. :)

Wonderful Gettaway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/13/10
The Chieftain made Hanover feel like home. The cute no nonsense rooms are clean and cozy and affordable. Each room has a second exit door giving to a private backyard with heated swimming pool, river views, gazebo and bbq. There you can walk down a private road and splash off the large dock into the Connecticut river where kajaks are availabe....we had great fun with the lovely, personable staff and the coffee was excellent. Only thing don't expect your cell phones to get great reception...but that is the mountain thing! The front desk was great at managing incoming calls wherever we were on the grounds.

Gorgeous view from my room!
By Jill, 4/28/10
A wonderful old-fashioned New England motel, with the added attraction of having a second door to my room. Enter your room in this usual-looking motel ... and then go out the rear door of your room onto a beautiful green lawn with gazebo, outdoor grills, and at the end of the lawn, a stunning panorama of the Connecticut River, trees, hills, and Vermont just across the river (and also a swimming pool, which looked nice, but not for me in New Hampshire in April). The room (complete with mini-fridge) was clean, the bed surprisingly comfortable (really comfortable! what a good surprise!), breakfast was a lavish continental breakfast), and the family who runs the place are quite lovely & very friendly. Looking forward to a return trip.

What a Gem!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/21/10
The wonderful smell of hyacinths greeted me when I arrived at this marvelous little Inn. It had the charm of the 1950's, along with all the amenties of the 2010's. The room had wonderful knotty pine walls with a comfy bed. And how clean everything was! The staff was friendly and willing to direct me to several reasonably priced restaurants, in addition to being able to bring meals prepared by a 5-star chef to the dining room. Their breakfast (included) was not your usual "continental" breakfast, but rather a nice selection of foods I did not expect to find....a real meal! I enjoyed the view of the river and look forward to going back this summer to swim in the pool and use the canoes on the river. I am so glad that Yahoo told me about this wonderful little Inn. I recommend it highly.

Too Much for Waaaay Too Little
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/5/09
Sulfur smell permeated room; water ran black for first minute; ant traps everywhere; housekeeping left dirty towels on floor and failed to make one bed altogether. OK if you're roughing it but rates way to high for remarkably poor accommodations and service.

Relaxing!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/6/08
Finally, a lodging facility where my children are welcomed. I felt at home with my children while vistited family during the holidays, not worring about them being an inconvenience. Lot's to do! The staff helped me plan activities with my children. Rooms small but very clean and homey. Can't wait to go back. This time it will be in the summer.

rip off
By Heather, 7/14/07
not worth the rate--unfriendly staff--also falsely advertised kayaking while it was actually under construction...they clearly make money off unsuspecting out of town folks like my husband & i. my advice: stay elsewhere or you'll regret it like i do.
