These reviews need some perspective!
By ,
This was my first (only) trip to PNG. I was there one-night prior to boarding a boat for a diving expedition. Leave your ideas of modern and luxurious accomodations behind! I have traveled a great deal around the world. These reviews are much too kind! Two-stars is a generous evaluation. Although the people may be good, and the country is beautiful, the accomodations at this hotel are challenging! This is a rugged third-world type environment. There is not really anything else to choose from in this area (that I know of...it was booked for my group)! I found the place less than clean. Insects were in my room. The air-conditioning did not work. Complimentary condoms were in the bathroom. Some locals milled around the property at night, and one of them knocked on my door asking me something about a US Dollar he possessed. I found the resturaunt to be less offensive. I am not writing this to hurt anyone. On the conrtrary! I am writing this to help those who may be visiting the area with some idea of what to expect! I would stay there again if I had business in Rabaul. But, I would not make the hotel an excuse for visiting the area.

It really a \"happy\" place
By ,
I had a very good holiday staying the hotel. Hamamas means happy in English and the place is really happy place. Staffs are very friendly, rooms are well managed/maintained and the restaurant provides very nice cuisines. Very closed to volcano and you also are able to walk to market (nice to visit! a lots of different kinds of fruits, local vegetables!)and shops so on. You can get bus transfer from and to Airport, which is very continence. I would like to come back soon!

I had a role when Hamamas opened in 1989!
By ,
I worked for Gerry and Joyce McGrade and the rest of the family (daughters Heather and Susie) when the hotel started. From the start, the family always see to it that hotel guests enjoy every minute of their stay., that is, they are comfortable and safe. Of course, they can boast their Chinese food served in their Phoenix Restaurant prepared by Solis, who happens to be a Filipino. Why do I know this? I was there at the very beginning and wish to see again the hotel and the family whom I learned to love! Annie Ignacio

AWESOME!!!
By ,
The Hamamas Hotel (now called Rabaul Hotel) is a great hotel and I wish I had stayed there for longer. The staff were friendly and skilled. The food in the Chinese restaurant was to die for. Should put up there prices as it was such a cheap price for what you recieved. Should anyone wish to stay in rabaul or New Guinea, pick the Hamamas Hotel. The experience was a great one. The owners take you on tours themselves (something which most hotels DO NOT DO). The Volcano is simply amazing and living near it was a great and fascinating experience. I went with my 11 year old child and my husband and we all thought it was a thrilling experience. We will certainly be going back there soon!!!

THANK YOU !!! =)
By ,
i just left rabaul hotel today as a matter of fact, it is 2am back in sydney and i cant sleep because it feels like my time spent there was a dream. The locals around town are the most friendliest i have ever come across in my travels, you actually get a saw arm and mouth from waving and smiling at every person u come across. Suzzie (the owner) and the staff are the most loving and caring ive ever come across at any hotel in the world. They bend over backwards for you to assure you have a wonderful stay and enjoy every second of it from fishing and pulling in yellow fin tuna like myself or even a 10kg wahoo like my brother did, (chef cooked it up with a beer batter and i can still taste the flavours in my mouth) to seeing tavuvu the towns famous volcano, to the sub tunnels off the heads even to the japanese tunnels built by the P.O.W's . And on top of the 5 star service comes the malay chef who tantalised my taste buds with every meal, everything from currys and fish meals to even a hamburger which i stand by was the tastiest hamburger ive ever eaten and thats a big call seeing as i am Australian! If you choose to travel to this beautiful tropical paradise you would be silly not stay here as i am already planning my next trip back with some local friends i have met over there. Thank you to Suzzy, Rossie and the whole Rabaul Hotel team for granting myself and my family with such a delightful stay, the memories will stay fond for a a life time and i assure you i will be back sooner then later. sincerely yours, Barry Plumb, SydneY

I travelled to Rabaul with my son after 6darn years, this was my sons first trip to my home province, Rabaul.
