The Ambassador Hotel Bangkok, Watthana Khwaeng

Although the location of the hotel is good with lots of shops and restaurants around,the hospitality is poor.The reception area gives a haunted look,the service is poor and the inhouse restaurants are awfull.Overall the entire place looks like a ghost house.....

The only good thing about this hotel is the location. It's close to Nana Plaza and there are many good restaurants in the area and its close to the Sky Train. Everything else about the hotel is bad. The most annoying thing is the hotel has what they call a joiner fee. This means you pay 600 baht for anyone else you bring to the hotel. Doesn't matter if its your wife, girlfriend or person you met in a club. The front desk and security guards are like Nazis about this policy. Second its just a dirty and rundown hotel. I even saw bugs in the elevator which was a first for me. Its just a drab place with stained carpet, wallpaper and bed linen. For the prices they charge it should be much cleaner. Finally the service is horrible. The people are pleasant enough (except for the security guards trying to extort 600 baht from you) but they go out of their way to rip you off. Example: I wanted to take a taxi to Soi 22 and was quoted 400 baht by their taxi service out front. I asked the doorman for another taxi and he said just take theirs. I refused to do this and flagged one down on the street & it only cost me 80 baht. I'm not sure why anyone would want to stay here. I had booked 10 days but only stayed for 2. I got out of there as fast as I could. It's a popular hotel with Middle Easterners and Indians. Maybe they just don't know how they are getting taken advantage of. Avoid this place at all costs.

We stayed there for a night and moved out. The rooms were smelly and old. The paint was peeling off. There were bugs crawling near the headboard. The restrooms had a pungent smell in there.We had requested a non-smoking room and they gave us a smoking room and offered no appologies either. The service sucked. The crowd around did not seem very family-friendly. I would never stay there again.

I felt that the service and cleanliness were fine. I stayed in four rooms, and they all had one unacceptable problem in common: THE AIR CONDITIONING BARELY WORKS! This is Thailand, where it's 100 degrees and 100% humidity, and you can't sleep in your room because it's so hot! I had to keep the A/C cranked up on high all the time to keep the room down to a barely tollerible 80 degrees. They also have a very beautiful bird sanctuary next to the tower wing. The birds squak all night long and keep you awake, so there is a whole side of the building you don't want to be on. Even on the 20th floor I could hear them. It's too bad. I had no other complaints, and I liked the breakfast buffett, but that A/C issue is a killer. I'll never stay there again.

I used to stay at the Ambassador regularly on visits to Bangkok. Now I would never go there again. Its condition deteriorates with time, becoming more worn out, not kept up and smelly and dirty. The open plaza that used to be next to it has now been developed so you can't even walk out to Sukhumvit that direction anymore, not to mention all the great little shops are gone now. You have to navigate a narrow soi (street) where you have to step into traffic just to get down the street it is so crowded with vehicles and vendors on the sidewalk. The breakfast is overrated. Almost any restaurant within 3 blocks is better and cheaper. And unless you paid extra for your room, the breakfast is not included in the price. It is too bad because this was a grand hotel once in its life. No longer. There are way too many other choices at this price.

Stayed for two nights in April,2006 in old wing. Rooms were old and smelly,staff were lethargic and uninterested,check in and out was a hassle. Reception did'nt tell us there were 2 single beds in room. Only good thing about the place was the breakfast and the swimming pool

i stayed in this hotel for more than 200 nites during 1981-1984.it was the HOSPITALITY that impressed me most.very nice n most courteous staff including the management people who were most friendly.I still cherish the memories of those days.i want to extend my personal thanks n best regards to the then director sales mrs.Aimee Leferve n would appreciate if I can know her present address/whereabouts.

The Food was not that impressive. During checkout the hotel people raided the rooms to chk all their hotel belongings are there, which insulted us in many ways. There are lots of ways to chk that...!!!

I visited Bangkok alone and stayed in the hotel for a couple of night in May of 2006. The room was pretty clean and the service was totally great. The location was close to local shops, so I enjoyed walking around there. I would like to stay there if I had a chance to visit Bangkok.

The Ambassador is located at Soi 11 area on Sukhumvit Road. There is plenty of night life and shopping to do. The rooms are decent and clean with good air conditioning and cable televesion. The food is very good and the service and quality is great. Despite its age, and it is showing, the Ambassador is a great deal in Bangkok.
