superb
By ,
There are really not enough superlatives in my vocabulary to describe how good The Oriental was. The service was amazing without being sycophantic. Personal butler, orchids and fresh fruit in the room and more bathroom toiletries than I have ever seen before... including mosquito repellant and vitamin C tablets. Food at each of the 6 restaurants was perfect. The Spa was a tranquil oasis. Am scheming to go back as soon as possible!

Still the best of the best
By ,
The Peninsula comes close, but still the Oriental is the best. With prices "reasonable" compared to other countries, splurge for a suite overlooking the river - an experience you will never forget

IT IS NOT THE SAME THAT USED TO BE
By ,
They are siting in a past glory!. It is not the same. Never will go back again! There is not the same kind of service that uses to be...They do not take care anymore for the tourist-safety..as soon as you leave the hotel they "leave" you on the hands of the hunters out there. It is obvious that they do that in purpouse so if cannot handle that, they push you to use the hotel limousine for 5 times more the price. The hotel personel are more delincuents that the ones waiting for you outside. also the front door people make you believe that they do not speak english to create confusion ( and probably they do not!)...I will never go back

THE best in town
By ,
It's all about the service and how it's delivered. They remember your name. Your likes and dislikes are known. Your room attendant remembers which of the fruits in your basket you eat more of (therefore more of that particualr fruit is given). Your clothes are folded (or hung) when it comes back from laundry. It's the little things they do (or don't do). The service is sharp and attentive but not "in your face". Yes it's outrageously expensive by Thai standards and is on the high end on a worldwide basis, but the service makes up for it. Hotel facilities are first rate and the eating options are fantastic; Lord Jim's Sunday buffet is great. The hotel is not what I'd call in the middle of the "action" by any means, but this makes the hotel quiet and restful. Overall it's a great hotel that boasts world-class facilities and top notch service with a distincitve "Thai" flavor.

unexpected courtesy and service
By ,
When compared to the 5 star hotels in NYC the oriental comes out first in accomidations and particularly service. An anidotal story illustrates this point. I left my bags at the Oriental and traveled to chang mai for five days. Upon my return a clerk whom i had never seen before asked how my elephant safari had been. I was shown to my original room, bags delivered, massage and bath arranged and had dinner on the verranda. Upon return to my room a gift rapped box , orchid on top was sitting there. :compliments of the oriental hotel. In it were all my dirty clothes, underwear washed and ironed and individually placed in clear plastic oriental bags. I thought this was a nice touch to the end of a long day. I still show the under wear to guests thinking of travel to thailand. It is to me a world class family atmosphere hotel Nothing like it in the USA.

Perfection Found
By ,
Ah, what can one say when you've found perfection? Gracious, over-the-top service. The Sawasdee welcome. How does the waitstaff remember my name after 10 minutes? How does the butler know when I've stepped out for 10 minutes and what I needed? A wonderful spa. Excellent meals. The opulent setting on the river. Then bidding goodbye "Mr. ____, please return soon. We will always hold you in high regard" Nothing anywhere can come very close.

Not up to standard
By ,
I was highly dissapointed with The Oriental. I was given a non-smoking room even though I had booked a smoking. When checking in I told them a I had requested a smoking but they still put me in a non smoking. After calling the front desk they gave me a new room but no valet to bring my bags up. The toilet in the new room failed would not flush properly. This is supposed to be a top 5 Star hotel and things like this should not happen.

A Gem!
By ,
Unlike many of today's "5 Star" hotels, The Oriental offers luxury without pretentiousness. Our room was well appointed and beautifully decorated. The marble bathroom, with granite counters and high end fixtures, was elegant. The walk-in closet with deep shelving was great for all our stowage. You also get the feeling that the management and staff really do want to make sure that you are comfortable and welcome. The pool was a welcome retreat on the hot afternoons following our adventures. If we ever go back, we won't look elsewhere.

its the small things
By ,
Spent time at the Oriental with my family. Everything was as good as could be expected and then some. Every night there was a custom desert with my young daughter's name etched or sprinkled in chocolate. What more can a Dad want?!
