Got hustled during high tea
By lilcara, 8/26/09
Bangkok is one of the stranger Asian cities I have been to. I think it really makes a big difference whether you are male or female. There is no doubt this is a grand hotel with a lot to offer....but one hot day I was taking tea alone on the patio overlooking the river, when two young urchins approached me with some hustle.... they weren't really selling flowers, they just wanted money. Pretty shocking for a 5 star hotel!!!! And not enough to detract from the elegance and great location. Reported it to management, who comically chased them off. I'd be leery, but do be leery all over in big cities.

The Oriental Bangkok
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/15/08
This was an amazing hotel! The second after we passed immigration and retrieved our luggage there was man at the entrance waiting to greet us. There were about 12 staff members there to get our luggage into the limo and help us into the limo. They provided us with warm towels and cold water bottles for the trip to the hotel. Everything was so professional (they were wearing matching uniforms) and best of all they did it with a smile. When we arrived at the hotel there was another group of people waiting there to greet us. The lobby is beautiful and check-in was fast. There were no problems. The rooms were beautiful spacious and clean. The view was magnificent of the Chao Phrya River. There was no bad odor and the bathroom was clean. They provided so many complementary toiletries its so hard to remember and they all had the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group Fan on them and said The Oriental Bangkok below the fan. The next morning we noticed that we were greeted by our names and it was like that for the rest of our stay there. We were treated like royalty. The worst part of the hotel was checking out. I reccomend this hotel to anyone going to Bangkok. IT IS WORTH WAY MORE THAN THE PRICE! Everything about this hotel was great the restaurants, SPA, and service. If you are staying somewhere in Bangkok STAY HERE! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!

We loved this hotel.
By CP9012, 9/14/08
The service was amazing. We loved staying here. The second we arrived there were maybe 17 to 20 staff members there to greet us. They took in our bags and gave us flowers and gave us refreshments as we checked in (and they all smiled and were so nice) Although we booked the cheapest rooms on the internet, the rooms looked beautiful. They had marble in the bathroom and were soooooo clean. The beds were comfortable and the view was so beautiful. The Thai restaurant was very nice. We also enjoyed the French restaurant and the seafood restaurant they had. We went to the spa and that was amazing. We have stayed at some pretty amazing hotels in Asia (The Oberoi Udaivillas in Udaipur, Taj Towers in Mumbai and even the Peninsula in Hong Kong. This hotel has beaten all of those in our view. If you are staying in Bangkok and want to spend the extra money and want to stay somewhere nice. This is the best hotel. I also recommend their hotel in Chiang Mai (The Mandarin Oriental, Dhara Dhevi).

The Oriental Bangkok Hotel
By CP9012, 1/4/08
We recently made a trip to Bangkok and Chiang Mai over our Christmas-New Years Holiday. We stayed at the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok and stayed at the Dhara Dhevi in Chiang Mai. We were very impressed by the service the second we left the airport. They provided us with wet towels and water bottles and they took us straight to the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel to our surprise (knowing that it was about 1 in the morning in Bangkok) they greeted us with their eyes wide open. We were impressed also by the fast checking in time. We loved the rooms that we booked one for us and one for our kids. Their service was the best in Bangkok. You will be impressed if you stay their. The location was right by the Chao Phrya River which was excellent! We could easily take the ferry which they provided to the sky train and back to the hotel. The hotel was very clean (excpected since it was a 5 star hotel). Although the service was great and the location was great....the hotel is very westernized. We are Indians and we wanted to have somewhat of a Thai Experience. Also, we went to the Christmas Eve Party ($150 per person) and payed a total of 600 dollars. We told them in advance that we were vegetarians and they told us that they were going to have an entire section especially for vegetarian food. We came to the party and THERE WAS NO VEGETARIAN FOOD. All they had for us was bread and Ceasar Salad. They did not even have any Thai Food period. We did not even stay for the fireworks. That was a lot of money down the drain for us. Overall we had a pleasant stay at the hotel, the service was amazing but this is not the place to go if you want to have a true Thai Experience. We will probably never return here again.

Second to none!
By Eleazar, 12/21/07
I could go on and on about house nice the hotel is, how great the service is, how spectacular the view is, or how awesome the spa is, but I couldn't do it enough justice. You must experience it for yourself!

Simply the best....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/07
I've have stayed at many places around the world, the Oriental Bangkok outshines any place I have stayed. Sure the amenities are first-class+, however, the staff is by far the most attractive feature. Genuinely concerned for their clientele, polite and always eager to assist in any way they can, from re-arranging flights, picking up tickets or lending their boat to get you where you need to be to meet a deadline. I can't say enough. I have been there twice and for me, no other place is an option....10 stars! When friends talk about their travels and the nice places they've stayed, I always think of my most favorite, the Oriental in Bangkok.

Top of the range!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/8/07
It's hard to beat! The level of service is impeccable from the airport staff (incl. brand new BMW 7 series) to the Spa (one of the best in the world), from the pool to the check-in (in the room). The floor butlers provide an amazing service! BOSE(!) sound system in the rooms ... amazing view of the river from the rooms with view. Very romantic atmosphere at the river restaurants. Excellent Chinese restaurant... Brilliant Cigar bar music, drinks, cigars! I seriously struggled to find something wrong until I noticed the triangles on the toilette paper rolls where not exactly simmetrical... kidding! Awsome place!
