A lot of wasted potential.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/26/07
What I liked: Awesome location. Vintage building. Generally very clean. What I disliked: Poor service - mistake after mistake. Horribly slow internet connection. I had to switch my room twice. The first because the window would not lock and it was possible for someone to walk right in. The second because the replacement room was actually a storage room. Finally, the third room was an actual room with working locking mechanisms. The internet connection provided by the hotel is a total waste. Luckily I was able to pick-up the internet Wifi from a nearby building. Then, there was billing error generated by the hotel on my credit card. It was fixed quickly but still. I thought I was done with them and then one more thing pops up. I knew it would happen though, because there system was down the entire time I stayed there.

unethical treatment

Billed a non-smoker a smoking in room charge, rude and non-receptive to query about same. No hot water, not corrected after complaint to front desk. Don't try the elevator.

The price is right!
By Brian, 01/02/07
It's not the Hyatt or the Sofitel, but if you like being right in the heart of Philly, and not payin' out the 'you know what', then this is the place for you. Its small and quaint, but has that old rustic feel about it. Seemed pretty clean whenever we've stayed there, and have had no problems with the staff except for a slight language barrier when talking to the maid, but no big deal. So if you want the real fancy stuff and the mint on the pillow, try somewhere else, but if you want a decent product for a fair price, then this is your place. The location is the whole key with this hotel! You are right downtown and near hundreds of great restaurants, theater, among other things. And to the person who said they paid 150.00/night, it must have been a last minute booking or a weekend with an event in town. The last two times i stayed there it was 84.99/night, Saturday nights at that, with discounted parking directly across the street. So in my humble opinion, it is a nice hotel with great rates!

Worst hotel ever.
By Derek, 01/01/07
Smelled like paint, carpets were disgusting, uneven floors, paper thin walls, TV was broken, towel rack fell off the wall... I could go on forever but its not worth my time.

I gave it 5 stars because...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/27/06
For what it is worth you get what you get. I mean they do offer a breakfast (donuts and coffee) but it is all in the location. It is in the Rittenhouse Square area, near a lot of stores, highly rated restaurants and also downtown. The room was clean, fresh towels, iron, coffee and television. Don't expect big screen or full cable but there is a t.v. The front desk person in my instance was pleasant. The room was a little cold but outside of that it wasn't so bad. You have to understand that the building itself is old, I would say rustic :) It's not bad but just not near modern. If you want full ammenities this is not the place but if you just need a room for the night that is clean and comfortable then this is a good option.

I don't recommend this hotel!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/06/06
Well i came here for a convention and I was staying at the Latham hotel on 17th and walnut for a few days before. Then I came here. The only reason i chose this hotel is because absolutely every hotel within a miles block had no rooms left. My last resort was to stay at the holiday in express down walnut. To my luck, they were full. Then I looked across the street and saw a vacancy sign on at the Rodeway Inn. Boy did i make a mistake. Let me start at saying that the elevator was broken so i had to walk up three flights of narrow stairs with luggage in hand. The overall feeling walking to my room was not good. There was a weird stench in the hotel that made my stomach turn. When i entered my room i was even more disappointed. The carpet was old, there were holes in the walls that were patched up but unpainted, the bed is very uncomfortable and who knows whats underneath the covers. The bathroom was horibble. One towel had a stain on it, the tiles on the floor were crumbling, and the floor in the bathroom slopes to one end. The view outside the window is a rooftop littered with garbage. You can actually see into other peoples apartments. If i would've known this, i would have paid 300 plus dollars for a much better room. Im not sure im going to sleep comfortable tonite. I've stayed in much better acomodations in third world countries at a quarter of what i paid for this dump!

Lalit was great!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/17/06
In making the reservations, Lalit was very patient and helpful; he answered all my questions. I called back and had more questions and he never ran out of patience - even when, after all that, I had to cancel my stay. Thank you, Lalit!

Never again.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/08/06
When my partner, baby son and I went there, they had a brand new employee at the front desk who had only been there for three days. As a result, it took her an entire hour to check us in. To make matters worse, the elevator was broken and we had to walk up three flights of stairs to get to our room (with our young son and all of our luggage). Our room was TERRRIBLE; the bed was broken, the TV reception was horrible, the toilet was broken, and there was urine in the toilet. Once we complained, we were offered a 5th floor "suite". We had to walk up ANOTHER 2 flights of stairs with our son and our luggage, and that room was barely any better. There was mold all over one wall, the windows faced the parking garage across the street, the room was cold and there were no temperature controls... I could go on and on. When we called the front desk to complain, the manager answered and told us that we had 10 minutes to leave. (please note : it was after midnight and we told him that we had a small child and had nowhere to go if we left.) He then proceeded to tell us that he didn't feel like hearing us complain. Our blankets smelled like cigarette smoke, the toilet overflowed, and ALL of us (especially our son) ended up getting sick, presumably from the cold air and the large amounts of mold that covered the wall. I don't even want to *walk* by the Rodeway Inn because the experience was so horrible. The location of the Rodeway is good, but the service is absolutely unacceptable. I don't recommend that anyone stay there, especially families with small children.

This place SUCKS!! DON'T STAY HERE!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/12/05
The elevator is archaic and only works part of the time. The staff is inefficient and not service-oriented. Our first night the ceiling began leaking--big time--at 3:30 AM. The person at the front desk--a VERY young man--would not go in the room above ours to check on the problem. (Good thing it wasn't smoke!!) He suggested instead we pack up and go to another room!! But when we finally did that at 8 am they said there was no room "ready" that we could move to!! (Evidently they were planning to "make up" a room already used -- at 3:30 am. With no maids on duty, how long would that have taken??) For our troubles, they offered a $25 discount (the cost of the room--with taxes--was $150). And when I asked to speak to the manager, the people at the front desk told me they could not give me his name or number. Who ever heard of that kind of hotel customer service? [Fortunately, I paid by credit card; I am "challenging" the cost of the room with them.] The parent company--CHOICE hotels--was no more helpful. After I filed a complaint I was instructed to wait 7 to 10 days for someone to get back to me. Of course, that time came and went with no response. When I finally called CHOICE back, they insisted we should have packed up and moved -- at 3:30 am -- to a room that needed to be cleaned. (In fact, their handling of this matter will keep me from staying at any CHOICE-owned or operated hotel in the future.) This dump's location is all it has going for it. I urge you to pay a little more and stay somewhere else. Believe me you won't regret it.
