Worst hotel in Roma
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/22/10
We were booked to stay here during our stay in Rome, but promptly changed our minds the very night we arrived, for these reasons: The service is phony and trying way too hard, not to mention they don't do shhit. The hotel is clearly old and not well taken care of. The rooms are very dark, and the shower is so small even someone small has trouble bathing in there without the water flooding the area. No regular ammenities like I don't know...conditioner! The breakfast was disgusting and even the birds didn't like it. I'm sorry I even had to sleep there one night; luckily the St. Regis wasn't too far so we stayed there the rest of our visit. Bottom line: avoid the locarno at all costs! Do not stay here unless you want a shitty stay in Rome.

Avoid at all costs
By GregI, 9/30/07
Booked my parents for a two night stay. One day before their scheduled stay an important family matter came up and my parents wanted to cut their trip short and return early so I contacted the hotel (on a Friday) and asked if my parents could cancel and what the penalty would be. I was told they would have to ask the manager on Monday (the day my parents were scheduled to leave) so my parents decided not to cut their trip short and to use their reservation. Then without informing anyone they went ahead and canceled my parents reservation! My parents had to stay in an inferior room with uncomfortable beds. Beware! This place will be quick to take your money but the customer service is horrible and they have a bad attitude. We spend over $300 a night for this? You can do much better than this.

great hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/07
Just stayed here in late June 2007 and it was great. Staff was very friendly and helpful, great jazz and afternoon apps at the bar, rooms were spacious and most of all bathrooms were beautiful. Would absolutely recommend!

Non e come era
By ROBERT, 9/17/06
This was a great hotel until they changed staff. The new staff is abrupt and arrogant, not at all with the kind of warmth and service mission of their predecessors. It used to be our favorite.

Real disappointment
By gmansbball, 8/28/06
Arrived for a three night stay with a friend. Two moms going to Rome without children. We looked forward to it for months. We were given a key and directed to a building across the street from the reception. When we entered the specified building we walked up to the third floor, found our room, a windowless, charmless room that had plastic Ikea nightstands and grey wallpaper, no shower even. Just a window onto a brick wall. We were so disappointed and returned to the receptionist. She told us that our disappointment was a matter of opinion and that many people love those rooms. What? Told us they had nothing else available and that all of Rome was fully booked at that time, and refused to refund our money. We spent the next several hours wasting time finding a replacement. We ended up at the Grand Plaza Roma which was lovely and could not have been more accomodating. It cost us a lot to change our minds but we could not even consider spending our vacation in such a bleak room and with staff that were shockingly unaccomodating. In the end the Locarno gave us back the money for one night out of three. I would not recommend anyone to stay there since you don't actually know what building you're going to be staying in, the photographs may have nothing to do with what you're expecting.

Adorable European charm
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/15/06
I love this charming hotel, but you need to ask for big rooms, if you are American! You can find a decadent flavor of old days, being few minutes from Piazza del Popolo and Via Del Corso...

Romantic hotel with great service
By Cherie, 9/12/05
Hotel Locarno is situated right near the Flaminio stop on the Rome metro, and near Piazza Popolo. The Spanish steps are about 15 minutes walk away. This hotel is in the perfect location. We stayed in a suite, which was huge, with antique fixtures and furniture and the most comfortable bed in all of Italy. The front desk is only too pleased to help, and the service was excellent. Next time I'm in Rome, I will be staying at the Locarno.

When I stay in Rome, I'll be at the Locarno
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/22/05
I liked the understated class and unmistakable art-deco charm of this hotel. The rooms were average sized but clean and comfortable. The multi-lingual staff was extremely helpful and courteous. From the surprisingly lavish breakfast taken in the courtyard to the elegant bar open for late night drinks, the Locarno delivered the Italian experience I wanted. The location was good, although a bit busy, and the local trattoria were fabulous. The only drawback was a faulty airconditioner on our first night. But the staff was quick to find us another room. A delightful experience.
