Casci - Friendly Beyond Belief!
We stayed at Hotel Casci (pronounced Cashee) for our honeymoon in Sept 2003. We spent three nights there including the night of the nationwide blackout! The staff is so friendly it's almost scary. They speak great english (among other languages), are happy to recommend restaurants, have an internet access point in their lobby to check your e-mail, and have a pretty good breakfast including toast, eggs, cereal, fruit, yogurt, juices, etc. Our room overlooked the interior courtyard and was very comfortable. The rooms have refridgerators so you can keep drinks or leftovers too. It's in an excellent location - very near the Duomo, open air market place, square with restaurants and other shops. If you go to Florence, of course go see the statue of David and the museums. Also take some extra time to walk out to the mountains (hills) across the river and take in the view overlooking the city. Buy an original oil painting while you're up there to remember your trip. Florence had the nicest people and overall best food in our whole Italy trip of Rome, Florence, and Venice! If you go to the square to eat (the restaurant may have been Zsa Zsa's, but I can't remember for sure) there is a peppercorn filet mignon that is possibly the best steak I have ever had! It was definitely the best non-pasta meal I had while in Italy. You can't go wrong with Florence or Hotel Casci in our opinions!
